I am so mad at the school - VENT VENT PO'd Vent
TANNER'S MOM wrote: Ok, Tanner came home the babysitter yesterday mad about something that happened on the bus. He showed me a big bruise and bite marks on his arm. His seat partner BIT him..yes like a dog. Tanner said he had his arm on the back of the seat, and Devin reached up and bit him..
Ok, I then said Tanner what did he do, he said I pushed his head off my arm hard Mom..and he cried. Ok, Tanner is a big boy and he is ruff too. So, I am sure it hurt the kid. He said the bus driver saw the whole thing and said Devin to the office tomorrow. Tanner had a BIG bruise that had teeth marks in it.
Well, the whole grossness of the thing is what makes me mad. I wouldn't have been so P'd off if the boys had gotten down and fought..but to bite my child and leave a mark ..blows my mind and it really grosses me out.
So, I was LIVID. I let the school take it's course. I just got a call from the principal saying Tanner got WROTE up and probation for pushing the kids head hard. Hello, he was biting my kid. Is he suppose to sit there and take it???
I told the principal I would be sitting in his office in the morning to discuss this.
What would you do?? He said the child who actually did the biting got the same punishment as Tanner. Ok, Tanner has rode the bus for 2 years without incedent. Has never been in any trouble and never even had time out or missed recess. He is a good kid..I am so mad. I know he isn't perfect..But I am mad
And what of Bus safety...>???>>
I am so mad, and I can't go to the school today b/c I will have to go sit in jail if I do, and get some new fancy bracelets!! lolol
ediep replied: oh thats horrible!!!! There is no way that Tanner sould be getting in trouble too!!! I would be so angry too!!! poor Kid!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: I guess one thing I would ask is what should have response been to being bitten? in kinda a cool nasty tone
I woud be mad to why should he be delt the same punsihment as the other kid when he was defening himself.
TANNER'S MOM replied: I asked this and the answer was no response except for telling the bus driver.
Ok, in reality that isn't going to happen. You aren't going to say, Excuse me Mrs Bus Driver Devin is biting hard enuff to leave a bruise..
Kaitlin'smom replied: uhhh ya or I guess he could have screamed really loud causing the bus drive to react and maybe cause an accident. I am sorry but you can expect someone who is being hurt to just sit and do nothing, its totaly unrealistic. I think that would have made me more mad
mammag replied: That is infuriating!!! A similar thing happened on the bus (my kids don't ride it anymore) here. This little boy was getting picked on continuously by another child and he finally had enough and hit the kid back and he was the one to get kicked off the bus.
I don't know what to suggest but I hope the school wises up about this. Kids have to be able to defend themselves!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I would take pictures of the bitemark.
Bring the pictures to the office with you, show the principal. Ask him to give you his arm so you can bite him, and so that you can both see what HIS response would be....
Good luck!
ammommy replied: It sounds like your school has a zero tolerance policy---one of those politically correct things that sounds great on paper, but in reality bites I hope you get this resolved. I know that if someone hurts me, my first instinct would be to get them away from me or hit them. Tanner probably wasn't thinking about it and just reacted. Let us know what happens.
MomToMany replied: Oh, that is just WRONG!!! I'd set them straight RIGHT AWAY!!
gr33n3y3z replied: Our school has zero tolerance policy and I told the school to stick it ,,,, If my child is defending themselves from getting hit again why should they get in trouble. I always told my kids let them hit you first then clean up clock.
Boys r us replied: I'd be totally P*SSED!!!!! That's insane to believe that a child is REALLY going to sit there and let another BITE him and he's just going to a) calmly tell him to remove his mouth from his arm or b)stand up on the moving bus dragging the other child attatched to his arm behind him while he goes to tell the bus driver?
Ohhh I'd be standing outside the principal's office when he/she arrived!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: OMG that is just awful! I don't agree that Tanner should be punished, but I'm guessing that the school is Zero Tolerance. Poor Tanner, that must have really hurt.
loveydad replied: My kids got bit once too. The first thing I did was to check the kids for rabies.
Then I told the school- they had no idea.
texasp3 replied: Oh man... that stinks! I would have been pretty angry too. It's hard when your kid is defending himself... I mean... what are we supposed to do? Raise a bunch of doormats? At the risk of sounding positively archaic, I'm not interested in my boys being taught to suppress their self-defense mechanisms. I want them to understand and manage those mechanisms, but not DENY they exist. Often this does NOT mesh well with these zero tolerance (i.e., zero thought) policies.

At first I kind of chuckled when conjuring up this image in my mind, but you're absolutely right, and it would be funny if it weren't so appallingly ridiculous to put kids in these no win situations. Where I live, the bus drivers tend to be one step away from a life of crime, generally nasty and disrespectful when relating to the kids, and none too savvy when it comes to child psychology. Telling the kids to rely on them to mediate a conflict fairly while simultaneously operating a large moving vehicle is like asking my dog to do my taxes while chasing a stick.
My2Beauties replied: I would be so pissed! I would be going straight to the principals' office the next morning and doing exactly what someone mentioned..asking him if I can bite his arm and see what his reaction is! Ooh oh boy I can already see how I'll be when Hanna starts school!
texasp3 replied:
Oh, I've got to remember that phrase!! I just know it will come in very useful someday. The challenge will be to see if I can say it at the right time while keeping a straight face!
A&A'smommy replied: OMG that is gross and Tanner should have pushed him, I can't believe they wrote him up!!! I agree with Nichole and jeane how can you expect him not to push him off of him poor kid!
