I can't take it anymore.

~Roo'sMama~ wrote: I know there isn't much I can take while pg besides tylenol, but I'm going insane. My ears, throat and sinuses hurt so bad and tylenol isn't helping. My doctor told me last year when I had a bad cold that I could take sudafed, but I was in the second trimester then and I don't know if it's safe this early in the game. I don't know what would be worse - taking tylenol a few times a day or taking sudafed once or twice and actually getting some relief?

Any ideas? I know it's late and there aren't many people on the board. blush.gif

Nina J replied: Well, I just googled it and it said you can take sudafed while pregnant, just make sure if you have high blood pressure you check with your doctor first happy.gif

EvesMom replied: I had a real nasty cold in my first trimester with Evelynn. The doc said I could take tylenol and sudafed in moderation. So I took half doses and the sudafed worked wonders. I also used a vaporizer with vick's at night. Feel better dear! hug.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
A half dose sounds like a good idea. I think I'll end up doing that today. I don't like taking anything while pg but I'm just miserable. sleep.gif

Jamison'smama replied: I can't remember if you are still breastfeeding but Sudafed is not generally approved for nursing moms. The older the baby the better though when you take the Sudafed so with him being 9 months you should be okay. I did it when Jack was 12 months before the doctor said---nope. It's linked to SIDS in early weeks but then can just decrease your production later.

I am not the expert but I would check it out if you're nursing.

kayla's mama replied: Hope you get feeling better. There is nothing worse than being sick while pg.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
I forgot about that. I knew that it can decrease milk supply but I didn't know about the SIDS connection. I almost took some not long after Andrew was born but didn't because I didn't want my supply affected - I'm glad I didn't!

I already took a half dose today, though. I'm not worried about that little bit decreasing my supply, but maybe I'd better not take anymore. unsure.gif

Bee_Kay replied: I've heard that you can take Tylenol Cold when you are pregnant.

Mommy2Isabella replied: I was ILL in my first trimester aside from having horrid m/s I also got some kind of cold thing! My OB told me I could take Tylenol Cold and even the night time tylenol, but only take half of the night time dose~

luvmykids replied: hug.gif Hope you feel better soon!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: What's in Tylenol cold besides acetaminophen? I might have to send hubby out to get me some.

I tried to take a nap this afternoon but Andrew wouldn't cooperate. He's sick with the same thing. sad.gif

NEWMOM05 replied: Hope you feel better. hug.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Sara I'm so sorry. I hope you
and Andrew feel better soon. hug.gif

ediep replied: so sorry...Hope you are both feeling better soon

Bee_Kay replied:
I really don't know.

Early in my SD pregnancy, she was pretty sick so I called the Dr and he said that she could take Tylenol Cold.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I took a couple half doses of Tylenol Cold yesterday but all it really seemed to do was make me groggy. blink.gif It probably helped me sleep better though. I think I'll just try to ride the rest of this out without any meds. wacko.gif

kayla's mama replied: Hope you both get feeling better soon hug.gif hug.gif

Bee_Kay replied:

Have you tried running a humidifier? It might help hug.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
We have one humidifier, but I've been running it in Andrew's room at night and naptime, and I'm too lazy to haul it downstairs in between times. I know it would help a lot if I had one while I was sleeping at least... we need to get another one. rolleyes.gif Andrew's sick too so I want him to have it though. wink.gif

kayla's mama replied: Have you tried the sinucare plug in vaporizers. They have them fro children too. We have used them in the past and they really seem to help.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Lol... another thing I have in Andrew's room but not mine. tongue.gif I have used it in my room before though and liked it. happy.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: Saline Solution is good to help clear out your nose, as well as a nice hot shower. Also, remember to floss everyday. I know that sounds weird, but sometimes when your gums are infected with bacteria it can affect your sinuses as well. That's what my dentist said when I was PG and flossing did help.

I was really sick when PG with Lorelei during the first trimester, and bought "Bromelain Sinus Ease" from the local health food store. It worked well and is all natural. Dr. said it was fine to take.

You can also take tons of Vitamin C cough drops if your throat gets sore.

I hope you feel better soon. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

Bee_Kay replied: One thing I did before I had a humidifier, was put a large pot of water on the stove and let it simmer throughout the day. (just dont forget about it!!) tongue.gif

Having humid air makes a world of difference wink.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
That's so weird about the flossing! ohmy.gif And kinda gross, but it makes sense too. I'm so bad about flossing. blush.gif I go in spurts -- I'll floss every day for a couple weeks and then go for days or weeks without doing it at all. blush.gif

I should try that bromelain stuff... we have a natural food store around here that might have it.

A&A'smommy replied: awwwiee sara I hope your feeling better!!! hug.gif

ilovemybaby replied: One more thing... if you have a cold try Bonningtons Irish Moss cough syrup if you have a cough. It is pleasant tasting and there is nothing in it that would hurt baby.
I used it when I was pregnant with Abby.
