I feel so bad - Ashley's Valentine's gift to Daddy

MommyToAshley wrote: A couple of weeks ago, we were at the store and Ashley was picking out the valentine's cards to pass out to her class. She saw a little stuffed teddy bear that was holding a plastic heart filled with chocolate. She had some change in her purse and asked if it was enough to get the bear for Daddy for Valentine's Day. (Of course it wasn't, but I didn't tell her that, I just told her to give me the change and I'd add it to my bill)

So, fast forward to last night... Ashley wanted to give the bear to Daddy last night and I told her she should wait until today. But, it reminded me that I don't remember seeing it in the bag. So, I looked in the bag and it's not in there. I looked on the receipt and it wasn't rung up. We must have left it in the cart or something. I went out last night to try to find something similar, thinking she woudln't remember since it was two weeks ago that she had picked it out.

The very first thing this morning, she wanted to give Daddy his bear. As soon as I handed it to her, she said, "This isn't it, the one I picked out was a light brown and it said I LOVE YOU on it, not "Happy Vanetine's Day"! Shame on me for trying to fool her, I feel just aweful. bawling.gif So, today after I dropped her off at school, I went back to Target where we got the first bear and I didn't find any with "I LOVE YOU" on it. I did buy a lighter colored bear and I thought we could cover the plastic heart with red paper and she could write "I LOVE YOU" on it and decorate it herself.

She was still disappointed when she went to school today, I didn't realize it meant that much to her. I haven't told her about the new bear, but I hope she likes the idea of decorating it herself. I am sure it will mean more to Daddy. But, I still feel bad. bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif

austins mom replied: awwww.. that sucks.. i hope she likes the new one also.

:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: That sucks when something happens like that and then they have to go to school. You can't really do anything about it until after school and for a little one that seems like forever.

You did good trying to make it up to her, I'm sure she will love decorating a teddy for him.

coasterqueen replied:
