I hate to brag, but my DH ROCKS! - Birthday present

jdkjd wrote: Ryan is sending me to NYC the first weekend in Dec. to go shopping. One of my roommates from college lives in Manhattan so I won't have to pay for a hotel.

I've never been to NYC so to say I'm excited is an understatement. AND I'm going for the whole weekend so I'll be able to sleep. YAY!

If any of you have any cool places that I should hit let me know...

5littleladies replied: I'm jealous!!! I want to go to NYC but Dh thinks it's dumb so I don't think it will happen anytime soon dry.gif I hope you have a great time!!!!! biggrin.gif

Boys r us replied: A must eat is CARMINE'S!!! It's this italian place right off broadway in timesquare..OMG..it's so good..but if you and your friend go...you only need to order one dish..it's plenty big enough for both of you! Seriously, when Rick and I go, we always fight about which dish to order b/c it's so big that we both share one and STILL have to take half of it home!
Uh you can skip the WWF cafe! LOL...my dh made me go there once when we were there! As for shopping..honey..you don't need tips..there are stores galore..you'll have no trouble finding them!

Have fun!!!!!!!

TANNER'S MOM replied: Never left arkansas much, so you rock and so does your MAN!

Good JOb!

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh man I would love that, and my B-day is comming up also. I simply LOVE NYC if I were single I would so be living there. Have fun, there is plenty of shops and good eats, it wont be hard to find anything

Maddie&EthansMom replied: You are going to have a BLAST!!!! I'm so incredibly jealous! One day we will go back and we really want to go in December.

I like Patsy's Italian restaurant (www.Patsys.com). It was Frank Sinatra's favorite eating place. yummy.gif We also ate at Sparks Steakhouse. yummy.gif As for tips, Don't miss the new Toys R Us they built (something like 4 or 5 stories), don't miss the Statue of Liberty, battery park, Empire state building, etc. I agree with Nichole that there is shopping EVERYWHERE! Just take a stroll down 5th Ave. Broadway is awesome! Check out The Plaza for kicks. That is where we stayed. wink.gif Oh and don't miss Central Park!

I don't want to overwhelm you, but it is SO overwhelming! I'm getting excited thinking about it! emlaugh.gif

coasterqueen replied: Oh I loved NYC. A bunch of us went for the Millenium...that was so cool! I just wish I had money at the time to go shopping! I was in such awe of all the shops. tongue.gif

Have a blast and take LOTS of moola with you so you can do lots of shopping. wink.gif Make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes for all that shopping you'll be doing too. tongue.gif

kimberley replied: thumb.gif what a great DH you have! hope you have a great time and enjoy central park! biggrin.gif

3xsthefun replied: You are very lucky!! I am so jealous!

MommyToAshley replied: thumb.gif To your DH! What a great present!

jcc64 replied: I work in NYC, used to live there, have so many places to recommend I wouldn't know where to start. If you're going in Dec, I would definitely hit Rockefeller Ctr to see the tree and the nearby store windows. Very festive- and if you're into cornball holiday stuff there's the Radio City Xmas Show. In the same neighborhood is the Diamond Exchange- one city block betw B'way and Ave of the America's (aka 6th Ave) and 47th st (I think). It's nothing but jewelry stores from one end to the other- fun place to window shop.
For shopping, I suggest Soho- lots of funky little stores, very NY trendy but not as stuffy as some of the stores uptown.
For home decor, a must see is ABC Carpet and Home in the Flat Iron district (B'way and 18th I think).
For book lovers- The Strand (somewhere in the Village) is awesome.
And for just walking around, check out Greenwich Village, lots of fun at night.

For food, if you like ethnic food, check out 6th street in the East Village, nothing but Indian restaurants from one end to the other. There's also Chinatown ,Koreatown, and Little Italy (check out Zagat's for the best suggestions).
If you like steaks, Peter Luger's is a NY institution,(best steak on the planet) but you need to make reservations wayyyy in advance.

If you're into museums, there's always the biggies like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History. Can combine both with a visit to Central Park. The Museum of Modern Art just underwent a huge renovation and is now reopened. I also like the Whitney Museum (near Grand Central Station, itself a beautiful building).

I would definitely try to see a Broadway or off Broadway show. Billy Crystal is doing a B'way gig if you're into him. "The Lion King" is great, even w/o kids.
I could go on and on. NY is so much fun, let me know more specifically what you're looking to do or I'll end up writing a book.

darrylswifeskylersmom replied: Your sooo lucky ... grrr jealous! LOL!
have fun.... shop till u drop!!!

ediep replied: It is going to be so fun!! I live in NJ, so I'm only an hour from NYC, jeanne had great suggestions. I just saw Aida, I have seen Lion King, Wicked, beauty and the beast, those are all great!
Have a great time

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Wow Jenn! That is so cool!!!!!! I haven't been to the city since I was in elementery school so I really couldn't recommend anything. I was going to say Rockefeller and Radio city as well. You probably should hit Macy's during your shopping. You are going to have a blast!

DansMom replied: thumb.gif Wow, that's great!!

Nicole replied: You lucky girl biggrin.gif I hope you have a great time biggrin.gif

jdkjd replied: So far I have a spa treatment scheduled Sat. morning and we are going to try and go to a show Sat. night but I just want to wander around mainly and go to Barneys and Bloomingdale's.

Would love to at least look at the Manolo Blahnik store also. blush.gif

Josie83 replied: That is so exciting . . how lucky are you?! xx
