I have 2 questions....

The next question is silly..... I am going to a wedding on Friday and I told DH that I want to get a manicure and pedicure on Thursday night if he gets home from work before the salon closes. He said I though you couldn't do that when your pregnant? I was like WHAT? never heared of that? I asked a few friends and they said that you have to tell the pedicuriest that you are preg because she may have to do some different things?

luvbug00 replied: I think some places massage your feet and ther is a spot on the foot that supposedly when pressure is applied can bring on labor..

kimberley replied: i think the gas stuff is ok for one use. i took zantac when i was pg even tho they recommend you don't but it was the only thing that worked for my heartburn and the OB and pharmacist said it was ok as long as it was just the one time.

as for pedicure, i have heard you have to tell them you are pg but not sure why i painted my toes (until i couldn't reach them lol) thru all my pgs.

3_call_me_mama replied: There are pressure points in teh foot that in late pregnancy are known to stmulate contractions. Honestly i had a pedicure 3-4 times when pregnant and it was fine. They dont' recommend doing it if you are know to have preterm labor. (Oh and teh fumes form teh nail polish and stuff arent' good for anyone to breathe in especially a pregnant person. but i think that's the only other reason. )

ediep replied: ok, I just looked up the drug info for maalox ans gas x and both are safe during pregnancy. Thanks goodness.

anyone else with any mani-pedi info??? BTW- I am so tickelish on my feet that I usually just do the soak the tell them to just do the nails. I hate the massage and the pumice and the rubbing. It is soooo annoying when you are as tickelish as I am.

ZandersMama replied: Its because of the foot massage and the pressure points on the feet. I know this because my DH got me a day at the spa when I was 7 months prego and I was in the hospital that night in strong labour. I was lucky and they were able to stop it. I was dialated to 3 for 2 months when he came a week late. I would say to get your nails done is fine but avoid the full pedicure.

As far as the mani/pedi, I just had a pedi last week. There are pressure points on the ankles that "supposedly" induce labor, but I don't really believe it. I'm all for someone massaging my feet when I'm PG!! I would also just make sure not to shave right before you go just because bacteria can get into any cuts, but again, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just make sure you go to a place that cleans out their tubs after every use. Enjoy!

CantWait replied: I can't think of any reason except that some places use the spray polish which causes light fumes, as well as the dust from the filing. If anything, bring along a mask if the smell will irratate you.

Boys r us replied: Edie you're fine to get a pedicure, especially if you're not getting the massage!

When I was pg with brae I got pedicures all of the time and never once did it make me have contractions!

Ashlynn's Mommy replied: I had my nails done when I was pregnant, and I had to tell them. I wore a surgical mask if they were doing acrylic nails on someone. I know alot of the chemicals, and fumes are bad for the baby.
