I have a question - about dd's flower girl dresses
5littleladies wrote: Madeline and Megan are going to be flower girls in our friends upcoming wedding. I have gotten the wonderful task of making the dresses. Friend told me what she wanted in terms of color and pattern and I went out and got it. Well yesterday I finished Maddie's and although it looks pretty, I think it maybe looks too old for a flower girl. I can't change it now, except maybe putting bows on the shoulders or maybe one in the front so they look a little more girly? What do you guys think? This isn't a great picture, Maddie was getting annoyed with me-She wanted to watch t.v. Oh and she won't be wearing that bow in the wedding-She insisted on wearing it.
amynicole21 replied: Wow! That's beautiful! You did a wonderful job
Maybe it is a little grown up, but I don't think it's too much of a problem. Adding bows would probably work to make it a little more girly, though.
DansMom replied: I can see what you mean---it's strappy, which seems like a style for someone older. A bow or some bows would probably add youthfulness to the look, if you have time---it's pretty as it is though, and not inappropriate---the skirt is nice and long, and she looks very sweet (if a bit grumpy lol!).
Kaitlin'smom replied: its pretty, but yes seems to grown up I would put some bows on it like you suggested to make it more girly, and if you decide you dont like the look of them they are easier to take off, than making a new dress.....
KatieLeigh79 replied: I love the dress! If any bows were added I'd say maybe around the waist but I love it without, possibly consider a cute little "girly" type necklace instead of the bows? Just my .2 but then again I was never a dressy type female and its just me and the 2 guys here *lol*
kimberley replied: i think it is pretty but maybe a little too grown up. can you maybe add a matching shoulder wrap? that would be pretty too.
MylittlePaige replied: WTG on the dress. I so badly want to learn how to sew. It looks great. I can see what you mean about being a little mature. I have a suggestion for how my MIL made a dress for a flower girl once. The bride wanted the dresses similiar and style as the bridesmaids which is what looks like is going on with the dress that you made as well. To make it more girlie looking she took a thin fabric like chiffon or something and made a sash that went across the waist and tied into a pretty bow in the back and then the ends of the bows were long so they hung in the back. She also took some little mini fabric roses and glued them on to the ends of the sash. It was very pretty and it made the girls look very similiar to the other bridal party but still look like little girls.
Let us know what you decide to do. Either way the dress looks great! Alli and Paige
5littleladies replied: This is exactly what is happening. Your suggestion sounds like it would work really well. I think I will ask the bride what she thinks. Thanks!
Kaitlin'smom replied: thats a great suggestion.....I hope the bride goes for it
ediep replied: beautiful dress and even more beautiful girl!!!
The bows or sash sound like the perfect addition to the dress to mak it more girly!
MommyToAshley replied: Great job on the dress, and your daughter is just beautiful (smile or no smile)!
I was going to suggest the same thing with the sash. Or you could even glue the mini roses around the waistline.
I can't wait to see the wedding photos... they're going to be so adorable!
maestra replied: You've got some great ideas here, but what about a second set of straps. I've seen a lot of kids strappy things with two straps on each side. Who knows?!
5littleladies replied: Thanks everyone for the compliments and the suggestions! Hopefully I will get something figured out. The wedding is in about 5 weeks and I will post pictures as soon as I can.
A&A'smommy replied: AWWWW she is SO beautiful! Yeah it does look a little grown up but it is so beautiful you did a WONDERFUL job!
coasterqueen replied: It is a beautiful dress! I agree with maybe 2 straps instead.
