I have been debating this too - no judging
moped wrote: I told my company I was ready to come back Nov 3, they called me in and let me go - with a "not as good as I thought severance package".....so yeah now I am officialy unemployed, but still on mat leave til Dec 15, which is when my package will kick in - I know I will find something but I have never really been in this boat before, so I am cranky. I was never happy there anyways, BUT BUT BUT
boyohboyohboy replied: Jen, I am so sorry you have to deal with that type of stress... I guess on the bright side is, you have some time to put together a nice resume and go interview for a job you will really like.. maybe even more pay and less hours!
moped replied: I ALWAYS have a resume ready to send.....have been on a few interviews and another on Friday and about 5 headhunters, I have been looking for a couple weeks........my job is fairly specialized, so it can take a bit longer in this industry - we shall see
boyohboyohboy replied: but wow look how organized you are, and still on maternity leave!!
moped replied: Well I am always ready if anyone asks for my reso........
mammag replied: That's good that you are so prepared. I would just try to look at is as a blessing in disquise. I bet something really great is about to come your way!
boyohboyohboy replied: if i win the lotto, I already told my husband we are hiring you to come here and make my kids sleep! you are my hero when it comes to that!
moped replied: Maybe I should start a new business and go house to house for a week making babies sleep - I think I could charge a small fortune for it
boyohboyohboy replied: absolutely we would pay anything!!! of course we would have to leave the house..I am a sucker for tears.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I am so sorry girl! You will find something better!
moped replied: Oh yeah that would be the first rule - PARENTS OUT!
lisar replied:
CantWait replied: Jen, can they even do that???? I didn't think they could do that on Mat Leave, you're suppose to be gaurenteed a job when you're ready to come back. What was their reason? I'm so sorry.
moped replied: We are checking into it all......apparently my job doesn't exist anymore!
lovemy2 replied: That kinda stinks but I always look at job loss as a blessing in disguise - if you are willing to work at it you usually come out better on the other side - doesn't mean it can't be miserable in the process - it usually is but.....hang in there you are bright and talented you will get something just as good or better.....
As for the maternity leave thing I don't know about Canada but here you are considered on disability and there are all kinds of rules, etc. but I find that employers usually aren't dumb enough to do something "wrong" with an employee around that - what a PITA though....
Well - more time home with the kiddies right
BAC'sMom replied: Sorry girl I really hate to hear that. I hope you find something soon.
3xsthefun replied: I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you find something else soon.
MommyToAshley replied: That sucks. But, I am impressed with how organized you are and I am sure any employer would be too. At least you've got some time to look around, and I am with the others, you will most likely find something better! Good luck, and keep us posted.
MoonMama replied: Oh man Jen! I know things will work out but like you said its still frustrating as heck. KUP and know your in my thoughts.
Calimama replied: I'm sorry. But I agree, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. When one door closes it leaves room for another to open.
A&A'smommy replied: JEN that sucks SO bad I'm so sorry sweetie!!!
Boo&BugsMom replied: That's just not right. I'd be doing osme investigating. I don't know laws there, but here, that would leave a huge door opening for someone to sue the pants off of them. I'm sorry hun. I hope everything will be fine.
Kaitlin'smom replied: can I ask why you debated posting this? I can see anyone judging you...anyway good luck on the job hunt.
luvbug00 replied:
moped replied: Well the problem is that for what I could get I would pay a lawyer as much.....so is it worth it??? Lawyer says yes there is a case, but may no tbe worth it in the end......
I didn't want to say anything because I feel so stupid, I thought I would go back and look for a job - HA, not!!!!!!!!!
I got 4 months pay which may sound ok, but really it isn;t, and my stock is in the toilet so I wouldn't make a dime on that
lisar replied:
Kaitlin'smom replied: dont feel stupid, its not your fault. My DH got laid off 6 weeks ago it sucks but it was not his fault the company is going belly up. He is not having much luck either. You get more mat leave than we do here. I would have loved to be off all that time and still get something, instead I had to go back in 6 weeks and only 2 of that was pd the other 4 I had to save to have off and still make bills.
best of luck in your job hunt
jem0622 replied: I am so sorry Jen. I was laid off back in 2001. It hurt a lot. Lots of hugs. IMHO, I think it is discriminatory and a violation of your leave that they had you come on site to terminate you. I'm sorry that the lawyer doesn't think there is something worth pursuing. More hugs.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh Jen!! You know I feel your pain! I am so sorry. Even if you weren't happy there, like DH was at his job, it's still not a good time to be unemployed. DH did hire a lawyer. Its worth a couple hundred dollars to at least have someone review your employment agreement and tell you your rights. Then if you do go to court, the lawyer gets a percentage of the settlement. Could actually be worth it if you and the lawyer feel you have a good case.
GL. You will find something new, but at the same time, being let go during ML seems like a case IMO.

bawoodsmall replied: that does suck jen. I think you will find something you like better anyways. You are a very intelligent woman who has a lot to offer a company. Someone will swoop you up.
kimberley replied: everything happens for a reason. you weren't happy there. i am sure u will find something much better soon!
jacobsmama replied: wow that is just crazy news..I am hoping for you it is a blessing in disguise..And YES you would make a great door-to-door SLEEP Nazi!! LOL
Boys r us replied: ahhh So sorry!! That's rough..it's always nice to leave somewhere when you're good and ready!
holley79 replied: Bless your heart girl. At least you have your Mat leave still.
lovemy2 replied: Wow - that really does stink - I think I would pursue it even if it didn't mean alot of money for you - its the point that they did that to you while you were on mat leave - that is nuts - employers here are VERY careful about things like that cause they know they can get in alot of trouble.....
Hang in there girlfriend you will find something
moped replied: I did have 2 very good interviews this week - so hopefully something will come of that!
A&A'smommy replied: KUP
moped replied: We decided to take the original severance and hope the stock market goes up a bit in the next 5 months and I can cash in on that as well..........and cross my fingers I find a job right away then we can just have a bit of cash

Brias3 replied: Ugh, how frustrating! I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. BUT, it sounds like you're more than prepared and on the way to finding something that fits you much better! Still, a complete bummer, but hoping this closed door is leaving way for a much better one to open for you fast!
CantWait replied: Good Luck Jen!!!! Let us know how it turns out.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm sorry your previous employer let you go. I hope that you find something.
