I have no clue...

MommyToAshley wrote: what to get Ashley for her birthday. I had planned on getting her an I-pod shuffle, but she saved up her allowance and bought one herself a few months ago. I am still stumped and have no clue what to get her.

Help?!? Her birthday is this Saturday... I've been thinking and thinking and I am still clueless. I thought about getting her tickets to see Miley Cirus/Hannah Montana until I found out they were $400 each. I did find tickets in the very back for around $100 each but then I don't think she'd even be able to see the stage let alone Miley. That still seems a bit extreme for concert tickets in the nosebleed section.

coasterqueen replied: Hmmm......I'm not sure.

Kylie is very into "smelly stuff" so she's getting scented lotions, body wash, bubble bath and kid perfume. happy.gif She's getting this from my mom and Megan is getting her some too.

We got her a bike, a webkinz, and a Wii game. Oh and she got her puppy. tongue.gif

Other things she's getting are hair stuff, clothes, Easy Bake oven packets, baseballs (she's about worn out all her other ones) and books.

I don't know if any of this will help you or not. blush.gif

CantWait replied: I don't know. Robbie's birthday is tomorrow and I have yet to get him anything ohmy.gif

bluebear replied: how about an itunes gift card? if you have a wii you can get her a points card or maybe a gift certificate to one of her favorite stores

momofone replied: Maybe nintendo ds if she has it maybe some games for it. happy.gif

luvmykids replied: All Kylie wants right now is clothes and hair stuff. If Ashley is into it, what about a gift card for a mani/pedi?

coasterqueen replied:
Ooh that's a good idea. Our girls never pass up an opportunity to do that! Also, which gave me a great idea for Christmas since birthday is already bought for tongue.gif , is I bought my DCP's niece one of those "spa day kits" and she LOVED it. I think I'll get one of those for Kylie for Christmas.

Dee Dee - Do you think Ashley may like something like that? I know both my girls give me "spa treatments" (I'd not call them that, lol) all the time at home. happy.gif love2.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Thanks for your ideas...

She has just about every Wii, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS game you can think of for her age. That's what she saves up her allowance for. There is one Nintendo DS game that she really wants, but her friend is getting that for her. She'll be so excited when she sees it.

She's into webkinz, but she has a ton of them already. Plus, that is her reading incentive. If she reads 30 hours within the month, we get her the pet of the month. THe library was doing something like that so we just continued it after they stopped it.

I thought about an Itunes gift card, and I may just get her that, but I was hoping for something fun to open too.

She likes and has the girly lotions and smelly stuff... we got a bunch when Libby Lu went out of business and they were giving it away for pennies. And, she's really not into clothes as a gift yet.

The spa treatment is an idea... maybe I will do something like that. Both the children spas in our area closed down. sad.gif

coasterqueen replied: Hmm, well......she has too much then! laugh.gif I'm not sure what else to tell ya. I'm assuming you asked her what she wanted? Kylie doesn't have a lot of toys, as she just would rather sit and write/read, so it's usually easy come holiday time to buy her something. She'll ask for stuff usually around those times.

coasterqueen replied: I know....How about a puppy? I have a really cute one and I'd like to tell you he's potty trained but....... rolling_smile.gif

MommyToAshley replied: She does have too much stuff. Way too much stuff.

Actually, Karen, you gave me an idea. She is always writing songs (both the lyrics and the notes)... I wonder if I could find her some sort of song journal to keep them in. She used to write her songs in a notebook but she filled that up. But, I wonder if she'd like an official musician's song journal -- if there is such a thing?? I wouldn't know where to look.

MommyToAshley replied:
OMG... she would LOVE a puppy!

But, not going to happen. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Ahhh come on mom! We said the same thing and finally caved. My husband can be very stubborn at times, but when he finally caves...he caves and he falls harder for the animals than the kids do. Shhhh don't tell him that. It's a lot of work, but the girls have had so much fun with them!

BTw, on the music journal thing I bet if you go to a music store they'd have something like that. What about also software that allows you to do that? Doesn't Wii also have a game called Music or something like that where you can make your own music/band, etc?

msoulz replied: http://www.woot.com/

How about today's special to compliment her Ipod? They are also sold at Target and others I think but for a little more cash.

cameragirl21 replied:
yes, there is such a thing. It looks like a regular notebook (although it's not spiral bound or anything like that) and each row has five lines to accomodate the notes as opposed to the usual 3 lines of a writing journal.
You can get it at any music store.
Is she actually writing notes, as in c, d, e, b flat, etc? If so, does she know where they are in the five line spectrum? If so, then the notebook makes sense, if not, she won't know what to do with it.
It would look like this http://www.azer.com/aiweb/categories/magaz...music_notes.jpg but without any notes or words, she would fill those in herself.

luvmykids replied: What about music lessons of some kind? Colt is getting a guitar and lessons for Christmas. There are lots of "junior" instruments (guitars, keyboards) that are good quality and a decent price.

MommyToAshley replied:
She is starting piano lessons as soon as soccer is done. We allow her to do two activities (which is why she has to wait until soccer is done) and that is part of her two activities during fall/winter. We told her the piano was part of her birthday present, so I was just looking for something small to give that she could actually open on her birthday. That's a great idea though. Let me know how Colt likes guitar lessons. Ashley actually wanted to take those first but the music instructors I spoke with said it is best to start with piano.

MommyToAshley replied:
Yes, she writes notes on the lines and knows what they mean... but the rest of what you said is a foreign language to me. She has to tap out the beat for me as I am clueless on how to read music. She doesn't get her musical interest or ability from me... lol!

bluebear replied: How about a keyboard?
For a journal you could get password journal (I'm not sure if they even make those anymore) so it's not specifically for writing about her day or writing music.

cameragirl21 replied:
If she knows how to read and write music, which is clearly the case as per your answer then the notebook would be great for her because a regular, 3 line notebook doesn't work for writing music, she needs the five line spectrum.
And it sounds like you're raising a little Mozart...where did she learn to read and write music?

MommyToAshley replied:
She picked it up in music class at school. She's always been interested in music and has always written lyrics, but she just recently started writing the music to go with it. I feel a little guilty not putting her in any kind of music lessons until now, but we wanted to make sure she was serious and old enough before we purchased any kind of music instrument. Thanks again for your suggestions.

MommyToAshley replied:
We purchased an electric piano that has the weighted keys just like a real piano. But, it plays all kinds of different sounds/instruments.

gr33n3y3z replied: How about speakers for her iPod :-)

MommyToAshley replied:
I knew I could count on you all --- I think I will get her one of those dancing ipod dogs with the built-in speakers.
