I just got a call from a neurologist's office...

For anyone who knows the Canadian health care system, that's REALLY REALLY EARLY after an MRI to see a neurologist. Usually it's at least a couple months wait.
She DID say that there was a cancellation, but still. Aren't there more serious people waiting for an earlier appt? Like someone with a tumor or something?
I'm worried now. What's wrong with me?!
skinkybaby replied: You usually have to wait a couple of months? Thats insane!
I'm sure you just got lucky and everything's fine!
mummy2girls replied: (((HUGS))) hun! i will keep you in my prayers! That is early BUT it could be what she said a cancellation... keep us updated !
booey2 replied: It probably is just the cancellation, but with the TIA you had I know they will push you up to the front of the line to make sure it is not something else. I had my first TIA way back in 1992 when I graduated from University and missed my actual graduation ceremony because my MRI and CAT scan were scheduled the same day as grad. You will be fine, positive thoughts for you.
gr33n3y3z replied: I didnt know you were having problems Rocky Its prolly nothing but I would call that Dr office back and ask to speak to the DR bc I wont and wouldnt go through the weekend with out knowing something its just plain ole mean to do that to someone
CantWait replied: It just means less time to worry. Try to relax.
lovemy2 replied: Really they can't tell you anything - what if you call your own regular doctor? Do you have a regular doctor? I am not familiar with Canadian health care?
mom21kid2dogs replied: I wouldn't read too much into the suddeness of the appointment, Rocky. Who knows? You might have been the 10th person she offered the appointment to. Hope you get some answers on Monday!
holley79 replied: Hopefully it's nothing Rocky.
Calimama replied: Ditto. I hate waiting!
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Hopefully it's nothing, hun. Try not to worry until you get in to see them. You will be in my prayers.
Kentuckychick replied: Ditto on hoping it's nothing Rocky.
I know a little bit of what it's like to be where you are, though it's always different for everyone, and I know that it sucks to have to sit and wait and wonder. And I also know how scary it is to not know what's going on up there in your head.
I'm not sure that it's any consolation, but when I was making my neurologist appointment here for my migraines (before they even knew about the scar tissue and "stuff" on my brain) that my doctor told me it could take several months. When they called from the office he said he had an appointment two weeks later from a cancellation and my doctor seemed thrilled and said that happens every now and then.
So I'm betting it really was the same with you and they just go by a first come, first serve basis. I honestly feel that if they thought it were something more serious they would call you in right away. I think too that there are ways that they can schedule emergency appointments for immediately (like they bumped some people up the day of my appointment so I could go straight down for an 'emergency' MRI) and they told me all of this. So I wouldn't think they would lie to you either. I think they would tell you honestly that they needed to see you in sooner and wanted you to come in next week rather than telling you they'd had a cancellation.
I know it's scary though and I know all those thoughts that race through your mind. Just know that I'm praying for you that all turns out okay.

A&A'smommy replied: I'm sure its just the fact that they had a cancelation!!! KUP
grapfruit replied: What's a TIA?
And Rocky. I'm sure it's nothing! Just a cancellation!!
julesmom replied: When I get an MRI, I can get a copy of the radiologists report in a couple days. I also get the CD of the MRI. I never had a problem getting a copy, which is great bc the neurologist never rushes to get back to me.
I don't know about your healthcare system in Canada, but maybe it's the same as far as getting a copy of the report.
sparkys2boys replied: Rocky it is very early hun but try not to read alot into yet please. I know how hard it is as we have just finished going through it all. Maybe it really just is a cancellation and they got you in because your MRI was already done. Prayers regardless that all is ok with you.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I already had the MRI and an ECG, when I went to the hospital for the TIA last Saturday....
the doctor I'd seen at the hospital told me the ECG looked good, nothing abnormal, and that the MRI results looked clean.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: The MRI pics I could have had a copy of last Sautday had I wanted them - because they send them via internet now.
The Canadian health care system, since it is mostly provided free, is shi**y in the sense that it really is priority basis, not whether you can pay or not. Think of it as universal HMO for all Canadians...and those who pay for private health care get their service...but they really pay mucho dinero. Most of the costs are covered though...
I'm hoping it really just is a cancellation. Because doctors offices usually just take the first one on top of their stack on their desk when calling for a replacement... not going by priority. That's done electronically.... priority basing I mean...
Anyways, I'm not really stressing about it...but I am at the same time.
Oh and a TIA, for someone who asked, is a Transient Ischemic attack...think of it like a mini-stroke.
lovemykiddies replied: You are most definitely in my thoughts & prayers. (((HUGS)))
redchief replied: I hope so too, Rocky.
