I knew that bad feeling meant something

MomToMany wrote: I had an appointment yesterday. I guess my GBS came back positive, which it never was before dry.gif . Which means that I'll need antibiotics while in labor. Considering that, he thought it was best to be induced so I get enough meds. I very reluctantly agreed to that because it's what's best for the baby. My labors don't last that long (about 5 hours). I'm SO bummed about that bawling.gif ! I wanted it to happen naturally. I was induced with Quentin, and didn't like it at all. The contractions were too strong, too fast. I was crying on the way home (an hour drive). I was all by myself for a change, so that was nice. It's probably for the best anyway (being induced), so arrangements can be made for the other kids and DH can put in his request for time-off at work. It's still upsetting to me, though.

Everything else is good, though. My BP was actually on the low side, which was probably due to the fact that I was all alone and could relax some wink.gif . He said my cervix was closed, but very soft. Baby is still up high. So, at my next appointment (next Wed.) we'll figure out when to do the induction. It will be the following week sometime, though, probably on the 10th.

Sorry if I sound selfish or whatever, but once you get an "ideal" plan in your head, it's hard to have that changed.

BTW, has anyone been induced with Cervadil? That's what the Dr. wants to use. I've never used that before. He wants to use that overnight, then Pitocin in the morning. NOT my ideal labor at all bawling.gif !!

maestra replied: I had cervidil when they tried to induce me with Jaci, but it didn't work. It's supposed to soften up and help your cervix open, making inducement easier, or even evoking it on its own. They stuck some cream in at the hospital, made me stay there for 30 min and monitored my contrax, then sent me home. I had to go back 4 hours later for another dose and to be checked.

I hope it helps you at least! rolling_smile.gif

I know what you mean about an idea though, and I didn't get mine either. Hoping for what I want when baby #2 comes around.

Kaitlin'smom replied: aww I am sorry your having to change how things are gonna go with this birth grouphug.gif . I did not have an ideal labor-had to have an emergency c-section sad.gif , so I kinda feel like I misses giving birth, oh well the important thing is she is healthy. I hope what ever they use works and you have an easy labor, and just think you will have your baby in your arms soon!

Daddy of Schnoogly replied: With all due respect, that's BS. To me, it's like saying "We don't trust you to come into the hospital as soon as you go into labor. We dont' trust you to do what's best for your baby, so we're going to make you go through extra pain." Doctors are too induce happy.

I think if you really want a natural labor, you should tell them! IIRC, you can get enough antibiotics with 4 hours of labor, though DW probably remembers better.

coasterqueen replied: I'm sorry to hear that. I know what you mean about having a "plan" in your head and then it gets canned. I had wanted to have Kylie naturally and ended up giving in to pressure to have an induction and then ended up having to have an emergency c/s sad.gif

By the way, I had that cervadil, bad stuff for me sad.gif They put it in on a Thurs night around 8 or 9 pm, I was already dialated at a 2 or 3, can't remember, before they put it in. Nothing happened by mid day on Friday so they started the pitocin. Well that crap didn't help me either. It wasn't until DH BEGGED them to turn the pitocin down that I went from a 3 to fully dialated in less than an hour!

Daddy of Schnoogly replied: DW just got up, so I asked her. She needed two bags of Antibiotics, and they took about 20 minutes each, and they had to be two hours apart. That's the usual treatment.

This should not be a bar to natural labor. Doctors always want to induce. bah!

aspenblue1 replied: I am so sorry you have to change you plans. I know all about that I was induced with Isabella.

jen replied: (((((((((((((HUGS))))))))) I'm sorry Mollie. At least you will have your sweet baby boy or girl soon! smile.gif

DansMom replied: I wouldn't be happy changing from my ideal birth-plan and being induced either. I guess I would focus on the time after delivery, bonding and being with the baby. Just maybe this induction may be gentler than the last one, as your body is more used to the process.

I can't believe how soon we'll have a new crop of little ones on this forum! It's so exciting!

kimberley replied: sad.gif i am so sorry Mollie. i can totally sympathize. if you remember i was also told i "had to" be induced and was not one bit happy about it. if i had it to do over again, i probably would have stuck with my gut instinct and let her come in her own time. they say babies who are covered in thick vernix are usually just before or at term but certainly not 11 days past due. Jade was covered in the stuff and as i suspected and told my OB, the u/s dating was off and she probably would have come on her own. the dr told me horror stories about perfectly healthy babies that go past due and are stillborn because the placenta just fails to work anymore. you gotta wonder what the heck they did before u/s? my birth experience became one intervention after another and i completely resent how they scared me into it and how they ruined my birth plan. if you are not comfortable with it, say no! it is your body and your baby!!! all those dr's are concerned with is not missing their next golf game mad.gif trust me, if i have anymore, i am strongly considering a home birth with a midwife because they respect the birthing process as a mother's choice. they are there to help you, not the other way around.

(((((big hugs))))) and message me if you ever need to talk. grouphug.gif grouphug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: i was also induced (stupid me!) but i only had to have one bag of antibiodics and that didnt last very long (not to sure how long though!) (((BIG HUGS))) im sorry its not going the way you want to!!! And i dont think your selfish at all i think its every womans right to have her baby the way she wants to! ((((BIG HUGS)))

Beccas_mom replied: I am sorry your plans got so messed up! I was induced as well, but it is all worth it when you hold that little baby for the first time! wub.gif wub.gif

MilMunchMOM replied: Are you planning to get an epidural?

Maddie&EthansMom replied:

I know how you feel! grouphug.gif I feel like everything I planned is being washed down the toilet b/c this little guy is breech. I don't want a c-section, but I know it is possible whether he turns or not. I have really had to step back and trust my doc and take a closer look at the situation. I try to see it from his point of view (he is wanting to be cautious) Plus, the drive to the hospital could be 2 hours for me or 30 mins (depending on the time of day) He has mine and Ethan's health in his best interest really. It is hard. Hang in there, sweetie. The end result is a happy, healthy baby. I'm sure your doctor is wanting to do what is best for you. In the meantime if you aren't comfortable with something and you think he is doing it only for his convenience (which a lot of times they do) then speak up and do your own thing.

I never had Cervavil...I had pitocin with Maddie and when I was induced I wasn't dilated at all. I'm glad to know I am dilated already b/c I don't want a long labor like I had with her. If you don't have an epidural the contractions will be strong and hard with the pitocin (which you probably already knew that) But, there is nothing you can't do or handle. You are strong. You will do great!! thumb.gif

jdkjd replied: I'm sorry your plans aren't going to be exactly how you thought but I'm sure all will be forgotten once a healthy baby is in your arms.

Just go with the flow and try to stay positive. Also, you and DH could "help" blush.gif your cervix in the mean time and maybe you will be soft enough where you wouldn't need the Cervadil....

amynicole21 replied: Mollie, I'm so sorry! I know just what you mean about things not going according to plan... dry.gif I had cervadil, and I don't really know if it helped or not. The pitocin was the evil substance that I remember. I think they just put the cervadil in for me so that they could justify letting me come in the night before rather than the next day.

Go with your gut. It's your baby after all, and you are the one who will have to deal with the memories of the birth experience for the rest of your life. Good luck, sweetie! Not long now smile.gif

MomToMany replied:

thumb.gif Yep, that's how I really feel, too! I DON'T want to end up with a C-section, which happens frequently when your induced. You'd think that they would do what's best for the mothers and babies, instead of trying to collect as much money as they can for every birth.

Thank you everyone for the advice! It's very much appreciated!

MommyToAshley replied: grouphug.gif

I am sorry things didn't go as you planned. Whatever you decide, it won't be long until you will be holding your little bundle of joy! I can't wait! Hang in there!

A&A'smommy replied:
ITA that happened to me and it was horrible!! Definilty do what you feel is right for YOU not the doctor!!!!((((BIG HUGS))) im so sorry that you are being pushed into this!!!

MomToMany replied: grouphug.gif grouphug.gif grouphug.gif
Thanks again, everyone! I'm going to tell him that I'd rather wait until 41 1/2 weeks (around the 26th) if I don't go sooner. Another thing I'm afraid of is being induced too early and that there will be something wrong with the baby. DH is getting mad about it, because I keep going back and forth. I keep messing up his plans, I guess. He can be very selfish sometimes.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: grouphug.gif I've never been induced so I don't know what that whole experience is like. It will all work out in the end. This way you can plan where the kids will be and you can have your bag all packed and ready. Because if you are anything like me once labour happens it's so quick you don't even have time to think of anything else! Good Luck and I hope it goes well for you! grouphug.gif

jcc64 replied: Mollie,
I also had GBS and needed antibiotics during labor. I arrived at the hospital around 2 am and Corey was born 1 hr and 20 minutes later. I questioned the drs before going into labor, was it necessary to get to the hospital earlier than usual to get the antibiotics started, and they assured me it wasn't. I really think you need to assert yourself with the dr, as difficult as that is sometimes, or find another dr more in line with your own personal philosophy. At the very least, a second opinion?

kimberley replied:
dry.gif tell DH when he gives birth you will support his decisions but until then it is your body and you know what is best for you and baby!! grouphug.gif

MomToMany replied:

Thank you for the reassurance! I will assert myself and tell him that I want to wait. I will just feel SO much better once this is all over with and I'm holding my brand-new baby wub.gif !

CantWait replied: You're NOT being selfish at all, so please don't think you are. I'm so sorry your birth plan isn't going to go as planned. I hope you make sure and talk to your doctor about what happens after delivery so you can make sure that goes the way you want.

I hope things go well if you plan on going through with the induction. Hugs to you grouphug.gif Either way you'll be holding your presious baby soon baby.gif
