sparkys2boys wrote: How the holy heck do you get a shitzu puppy to sit still to trim around there eyes?? OMG..... I am going insane looking at him, the poor lil guy can hardly see and the fur there is always sooo ICKY. I have him booked at the groomers but it's 3 weeks away wacko.gif HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

grandma replied: Funny you ask, my two are at the groomers right now. I'd never be brave enough to try and trim their faces......
I've been waiting for the call that they are done. I took them to a new groomer by our new house, she seemed real nice and thought they were adorable.
Where's a picture of your puppy and what did you name him/her? They are the cutest puppies!

cameragirl21 replied: I've never owned a dog that required grooming of that sort but I would probably have someone else hold him while you trim and have them hold him by the scruff of the neck, loosely till he squirms and moves too much and then tighter. I hate to scruff animals but it is a control hold and keeps them still. Just to trim the fur in front of his eyes shouldn't take too long so you wouldn't have to have him scruffed for too long.
Btw, I don't mean holding him in the air by the scruff but rather holding him in the sit or down position(on a table or something else under him) with one hand on his body and the other on his scruff.

mckayleesmom replied: My mil use to be a dog groomer...so she usually does her Shitzu. Sometimes when she doesn't have the time to sit down and do him properly she will take a little rubber band and pull his hair back in a rubber band... rolling_smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: We kept our shihtzu long when he was younger and he always had a top knot. I couldn't groom him myself until recently, though. Now that he's older he will let me do anything, but he was so feisty in his younger years. The hair can get in their eyes and cause serious problems.

grandma replied:
He's adorable! I WANT him now!!! rolling_smile.gif
Is he all white besides the black that shows in the picture? One of mine is blk/wht and one all black....

sparkys2boys replied:
Mostly all white yes and alot of what looks black in the pic is a dark tan colour. He has some tan markings on his backside but very little and NO NO NO you can't have him tongue.gif We all love him to much to ever part, and besides he's mommy's baby he would never leave! Now if only I could get him trimmed up some.. aghhhhhh I keep trying but he is TO SQUIRMY and I am scared I will hurt him bawling.gif

grandma replied: He's so cute!
I'd love to learn to groom (cut) my dogs, but am sacred I'd cut them.
I just got the call that my pups are ready to be picked up....goodbuy $80!

sparkys2boys replied:
$80.00 for them both?? WOW, here it's going to be $55.00 plus tax for just him. I am thinking about once a month he will have to go or unless I can get him to sit still for me then maybe less.

Calimama replied: Miabella just said, " I want to go see THAT puppy.. now.. come on.. hurry please.."

Anyway I was going to say get some little clips. rolling_smile.gif

sparkys2boys replied:
awww send her over wub.gif I bet Scoother would love her to bits!

luvmykids replied: Once in awhile Stevie will let us do his face but not often dry.gif and it takes two of us....we make him sit while one of us straddles him and holds his head in a death grip laugh.gif and the other one has to be super fast. I use the small professional hair cutting scissors, they're sharp enough to get it in one snip.

grandma replied:
Well I gotmy pups back. They look so cute and so small. Without the hair they look half the size.
They were $37 each and I tipped her $10. She did tell me that Baby is very nervous when she did his face and she had to take along time to do it. I think one time at my oldgroomer they got too close to his eye and it really scared him.
I only take them about every six weeks, but she said since this cut is very short it should last 10 weeks - we'll see cool.gif
I'm just glad they liked her so much and I find a good place to take them.
