I ran across this article on an alternative - therapy for ear infections.

Just thought I'd share. Katherine has not had one yet (knocking on wood) and according to this, the chiropractic adjustment that I had done for her after her birth may have played a part in that. It's not all about chiro but the comment about the ear infections possibly being traced to birth trauma is interesting. I'd gone to a chiropractor throughout my first pregnancy and he had a very holistic approach. He wanted to adjust the baby after she was born and after his explinations and a bit of research, I agreed.

Anyway, I know that some of you guys are struggling with reccurent ear infections so I figured I'd pass this on.

jem0622 replied: Very interesting! Nathan (4) had tons of ear infections and ended up with tubes. Gabe has only had one and was never in daycare. Nathan was in daycare for 2 1/2 yrs.

amynicole21 replied: Very interesting article! I wonder if getting a chiropractic treatment now would be beneficial? Sophia suffers from ear infections so much, and it seems like she's spent at least 1/3 of her life on antibiotics sad.gif

On a side note, who would name their son Fayge Lisbon? blink.gif

coasterqueen replied: I've seen this recommended a lot and have heard it works!

I'll bet an adjustment wouldn't hurt. I know that I got sick a lot less when I was receiving weekly adjustments.

rolling_smile.gif on the name. I didnt' even notice.

coasterqueen replied: Just be cautious when going to a chiro wink.gif I used to work for a state chiropractic trade association and it took me 2 years before I would let them adjust me. They convinced me to get an adjustment for migraines. Never really helped me migraines and I had to go at least once a week for adjustments because my back relied on it. IMO, sometimes I think they want that wink.gif. It took me 6 months of letting my back stay very sore to get it back to "normal".

My poor mother's body is so addicted to getting adjustments that she needs one 2 times a week and she's convinced it helps her back. wink.gif

There are massages you can do that will help with ear infections, sinus infections and the like without having to get antibiotics too. I'll try to dig up the info. I did this with Kylie in order to avoid the madness of antibiotics. wink.gif

coasterqueen replied: Okay I found her site. I know this woman personally wink.gif We met a few times and talk often. So I trust her info.

Down the page aways she talks about OMT (Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment). If you are interested in how to do the massages and don't want to get the book, let me know. I have it and I can copy it and email it to anyone or try to post it to here.

The massage has helped tremendously when Kylie was having sinus issues and I saved her a trip to the doc for antiobiotics.

EDIT: To say the woman I spoke about above strongly agrees with the chiropractic treatment too.

jcc64 replied: My 8 yr old used to suffer with chronic ear infections as a baby and toddler. So much so that he suffered temporary hearing loss when learning to speak and to this day has speech issues. I became increasingly troubled by the amount of antibiotics he was consuming, and sought out alternative therapies. We visited a chiropractor who administered weekly massages to the pertinent areas on N's head and neck. She also suggested we eliminate dairy as a possible allergen, and to add a pro-biotic powder to some of his foods. He never had another ear infection again. Maybe it was a conincidence, maybe not, but I was eternally grateful nonetheless. BTW, just something else to think about, in Europe, it is NOT standard practice to administer antibiotics for every ear infection in children.

dolfinrse replied: From what my mom tells me, I always had ear infections as a baby. She took me to a chiropractor who did an adjustment and I never had another ear infection.

mummy2girls replied: cool. ive been kinda scared to go to one. Hearing horror stopries and all.

It's funny you say that because I came across quite a bit a research a couple months ago that stated doctors are really quick to diagnose (sp?, that looks weird, lol) ear infections when they are not really ear infections. Just because the ear is a bit pink doesn't mean it's an ear infection and a lot of times antibiotics are given when not needed. It was interesting to me because ear infections seem to be soooo common these days and dh and I were both saying how neither one of us had ear infections as kids and if we did have what we used to call an "ear ache" our moms gave us cotton to put in our ears. rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: Oops, that last one was me :blushing:
