I was among the duped consumers

C&K*s Mommie wrote: But I did not know that Aquafina and Dasani were really purifed tap water. huh.gif Did anyone else know before Pepsi announced that they were selling clean tap water, that it was just plain tap?? Do you still plan to consume the tap/bottled water anyhow?
I even counted Dasani and Aquafina as one of my top two favorite bottled waters, ahead most of the others in stores. I have no interest in trying the $50/bottle of water, so I guess I still have some senses still about me in not being duped into paying that much money for tap. emlaugh.gif
Here is one story about the bottled water lie:
The Bottled Water Lie

maestra replied: I knew- I never liked Aquafina or Dasani because I always thought they tasted like tap water. We use filtered water here, and there is a different taste.

Did anyone ever see that "O" water commercial with the two guys in the mountain stream? So I don't buy that "mountain stream" water either. I just like the filtered water. rolling_smile.gif

We get our water at the water and ice store around the corner. They run it through the reverse osmosis filter, and it costs me 1.25 for 5 gallons. Tastes better to me than tap

luvmykids replied: I didn't know until recently. I only buy bottled water for convenience sake anyway, our tap water is filtered and tastes good. When the kids are bugging me to stop and buy them a drink, it's usually Aquafina laugh.gif (You'd think they'd give up on getting Bug Juice by now rolleyes.gif )

My3LilMonkeys replied: Our tap water is great, so it doesn't bother me at all. Water is water to me, unless it's city water, which I can't drink. I only buy bottled water if I forgot to bring a drink with me, and I just buy whichever brand is the cheapest, which is usually a local brand.

There was one local brand a few years ago that actually got its water from the exact same underground source as my mom's tap water comes from.

redchief replied: Like Lewis Black says, "When I think fresh, clean water, I think Coke and Pepsi."

Aquafina is a Pepsico product and Dasani is a Coke product. Aquafina is simply purified tap water (sometimes flavored with fruit extracts), and Dasani is "purified tap water with minerals added." dry.gif

ZandersMama replied: THis makes me so angry! I live in a place with one of the cleanest water supplys in Canada, and I was buying Aquafina to make the babys bottles......... makes me so freaking angry!

Kentuckychick replied: I actually did know... still drink it though. A little tip I received several years ago from a woman I will call "mom" happy.gif -- if the water is labeled as purified "drinking water" or anything about "drinking water" then it is simply water from the tap that has been purified and may have things added to it to make it more 'pure'. Only the brands labeled Natural Spring water (which can be quite expensive if not local -- we have Hybridge Springs here) are really pure water.

The thing for me is if I'm at school or something I would rather pay and drink purified tap water than drink out of the water fountain wink.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: It's not plain tap water.... it's purified. They weren't duping people, it says on the label "purified water". The media made it out to be some big scam but really it isn't... they never said their water was anything but just purified water, but apparently people thought that because they had pictures of mountains on the label that it was spring water, which is just plain stupid imo. Read the label people it never said spring water. rolleyes.gif Here's a link to aquafina's website and the info on how they purify the water. http://www.aquafina.com/?or=goog.543

Really I think this whole thing is ridiculous. People are making it out to be such a big deal when it's not. I buy aquafina, dasani, and a bunch of other brands of purified water when I'm away from home and need a drink of water - I hate drinking water straight from the tap and almost never drink a glass of water at a restaurant because it comes straight from the tap and it tastes gross. If it came from the tap, and then went through a purifying filter, then it would taste fine to me but plain old tap is gross.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: dry.gif My friend will only buy Dasani water and will only drink Brita filtered water. I just emailed her the article and I'm sure she will have some smart comeback for me, like it only is happening in the USA. But Coke and Pepsi are worldwide, so it can't just be in the USA. Me I just put plan old tape water in my water bottle (yeah I got sucked into the whole Nalgeen bottles). laugh.gif

5littleladies replied:
Ditto to your whole post Sara (except for the tap water thing since we both know I drink it tongue.gif ). I don't understand why people are getting so worked up over this. rolleyes.gif

Anthony275 replied: dosen't anybody here drink poland spring?!

A&A'smommy replied: Very rarely do I buy auquafina anyway but it really doesn't bother me that its not spring water.. most companies get their water from "the tap" and then filter it wink.gif

Calimama replied: I knew, it says so on the label. I was surprised to see it as an issue. blink.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied:
I never once thought that Dasani or Aquafina was spring water, I can read the difference on the labels just fine. I just did not think that it was simply tap water either. I did not realize that tap could have so many variations in taste when it is purified more, as compared tother companies who do not "purify" it as well. I will continue to drop a dollar and some every now and then for the conveinence of having a cold drink when I am thirsty.

luvbug00 replied: we use britta filtered water. umm don't buy any water from bottle, just pop some in a thurmas because to me bottled stuff is a waste of $. ( i never drink water anyway i only drink juice and milk and on rare occasion..soda)

Cece00 replied: Water is water. I wasnt duped because I know water is water. Our water is city water, its super clean, we drink it all the time. We have like 2 filters connected to our water system anyway, our water is probably BETTER than any bottled water.

I will drink bottled water when I'm out of the house & want a water (cause what else can I do??) but I always buy the cheapest bottled water I can get in a store because water is....water.

HuskerMom replied: I kind of figured that it was tap water but I still bought it bc it tastes so much better, our tap water tastes horrible.

holley79 replied: I always buy Sam's Choice water. Taste cleaner then our tap water.
