I watched oprah after the show yesterday - bra question
ediep wrote: I watched Oprah after the show yesterday on Oxygen and it was a repeat from the bra intervention show with Stacy London. She also had a guest on from Nordstrom who was a bra fitter. Everyone she measured and fit had a different size than they had been buying and wearing.
my question is...have you ever been officially measured for a bra? Where do you go for this? Where do the measure? (i'm guessing just below the breast, to get the back size)
I really want to do this, I have a small chest but I could use more support
PrairieMom replied: I think you can have it done at Victorais Secret, but I have never been brave enough.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Our JCPenney store does it. I haven't been measured, but I am going to go and get measured.
My3LilMonkeys replied: JC Penney and Victoria's Secret both do it. I was professionally fitted once (when buying a strapless bra) but that was before both of my children were born so I should probably have it done again.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I have had it done at Robinsons May, and at Motherhood Maternity. At robinsons I was wearing the right size but at Motherhood I was in denial about how big the girls had gotten so I was off by 2 cup sizes
moped replied: Actually they say to go to a high end lingerie store - I have been done at VS and it way off - a boutique kinda place.
Freckled Momma replied: My sister just recently got measured at VS too...she was off with her's as well. Now she says she feels much better.
I've never been done, myself
MomToMany replied: I would love to get professionally fitted. I'm fairly certain I'm not wearing the right size, and could definitely use some more lift & support! it's hard when you're plus size as well.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Edie I love your blinkie.
I only caught the tail end of the after show....I wish I would have seen the whole thing.
Anyway, I was measured at Victoria's Secret. I really hate that place, but I was in there and this lady just walked up to me and starting measuring my breasts. I measure smaller than what I've been buying. According to that show yesterday, you are supposed to do this (buy a little smaller than what's comfortable).
kimberley replied: i am so clueless about this stuff. don't watch Oprah but was told years ago to just measure with a measuring tape. guess thats why my bras dont fit right it doesn't help my size is constantly changing with pg and nursing.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I have not doen it either, they woudl probaly tell my to buy bigger. I am comfortable in the size I get so why change it? plus its harder to find cute ones any bigger, hard enough as it is.
luvmykids replied: Most any department store does it. Makes a big difference too, for me no more bra riding up in the back!
1moremakes4 replied: When I was pregnant this last time (too big for my old bras, not big enough for nursing bras) I got measured at Victoria's Secret. Then I was measured at Motherhood Maternity for nursing bras. Glad I did because I never would have gotten the right size!
C&K*s Mommie replied: I had my measurements done at JCP once in Tallahassee, I thought the girl was an idiot, when she told me my size, I thought she cannot measure! ((this was after I had Christian, and I did not know your size can change ))
I recently got it done again at Fredericks of Hollywood, the girl told me my size, then I realized the first girl in Tallahassee was right on the money originally. Ooops!
or any lingerie stores.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Okay I got out my measuring tape and I am just about right with my size I do measure 36 1/4 around so 36 works for me amd the I did the fullest part and looked at a chart yep right on.
CosmetologyMommy replied: I worked at Lane Bryant before and was taught how to fit people in bras.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I recently got measured at VS. I have worn a 34B for a long time and was told I was between a 34B and 36B there. Could be because I'm PG, but I was pretty right on!
I think the best bet is to try on a lot of different styles in maybe two sizes. I did this and found that in some 34Bs it cuts off my boob too much, making me look smaller and pointier. Where the 36B sorta rounded me out more. But some 36Bs were too big around.
A friend of mine told me that your bra should fit snug and comfortable on the last hook (meaning the tightest hook). If it doesn't, she says you're wearing the wrong size. I always wondered why my bras rode up on me. It was because I was wearing them on either the lowest or middle hook.
I'm still pretty clueless, but there's my 2 cents!
