IMPORTANT INFO
mckayleesmom wrote: Beginning this month (JULY '06) a new database will be available to the general public free of charge that displays your personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates). (Soc. Sec. is available for a price.) The database is found at http://www.zabasearch.com/ type in your name and check ... you'll be SHOCKED as I was!
I urge you to forward this email to family and friends. Check to see if your name and information is in their database. If so and you want it removed, send them an e-mail at info@zabasearch.com to request it be removed. I do not know how our names are appearing there, but I checked my own and a few other random ones and they are all in this database!
After opting out by email, check back after a few days to make certain your information has been removed. If it has not been removed then file a complaint with your State's Attorney General.
I did a search on myself and I didn't come up with my married last name, but they had every address I have ever lived at under my maiden name. Creepy.
mckayleesmom replied: I tried the second link and couldn 't find anywhere to mail them and take me off the list. Nevermind...I missed where it said EMAIL them.
luvbug00 replied: Nothing for me Good thing I constantly change the spelling of my name
moped replied: Thank god it seems it is only for US
holley79 replied: That is nuts. I am going to have to email them to take me off the list. It's my maiden name but still it has everything there.
mckayleesmom replied: I just sent my email.....For petes sake.....That is why I don't have it listed in the phone book....I don't want people to just be able to look up my name and find out where I live.
luvbug00 replied: Found Brad though!
kit_kats_mom replied: Snopes has something about this. All it is is a company that collects and puts together information that is available to anyone for free (AKA Public Records) if they are willing to do the leg work. Nothing new and nothing to get freaked out about. The only way to live a totally anonymous life is to live a life on a cash only basis. Pay cash for your home, pay cash for your cars, be paid in cash from jobs etc. Never open a bank account, get married (legally), get arrested etc. Doing this would also grant you amnesty from paying taxes.
My2Beauties replied: I saw this, I just emailed them, don't want my name on there !!
MichaelsMommy replied: Whew.. i'm not in there either. I did find a few lost phone numbers I've been looking for though
redchief replied: My poor dad is all over the thing... But that's because of his business listing with the state. Nothing on me.
Before everyone gets all queasy, you should read Snopes report on ZabaSearch . This isn't a new or particularly dangerous service. It does remind us, however, to keep our private information off the net whenever possible.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Thanks Brianne, cary and Ed for passing along that info.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I would highly doubt it would be legal for someone to pass out SS#'s to people for a fee. It says you search BY SS#, but I don't think someone can go and pay money to get someone's SS#.
mom2my2cuties replied: I actually use Zaba for some part time work I do for a PI..You have to have the SSN in order to search by it. There are other services though, that if you have some of the persons information, you can get thier social.
mom2my2cuties replied: Oh and since you guys are wanting to opt out...The only way to do so is in writing - In order to create, edit, or block your record, all for free, you must make that request in writing and mail it to:
ZabaTools 2828 Cochran Street, #397 Simi Valley, California 93065.
Receiving requests by mail allows us to verify and process your requests quickly. Records created, edited and ZabaLinks added may take up to several weeks to appear in ZabaSearch. Records requested to be blocked are typically processed the next business day after receiving the request. You will be notified by e-mail when you request enters our system and then once more when the requested records have been adjusted. Please specify if you want to create, edit, delete a record.
In order to fill your request your letter must contain the following information to insure we create, edit or delete the correct records. After you confirm by e-mail that we processed your request, your letter and the information you provided in it will be shredded. You will have created a record for yourself just as you like it and will be eventually given online tools to adjust your information as you like live in ZabaSearch 24/7.
1. E-mail address 2. Full name including middle initial 3. Address of the record you wish to create, edit or delete 4. Phone number you wish to have removed 5. Year of birth. 6. Specify if you are requesting to create, edit or delete a record. 7. Sign and date your request
Which I think is absolutely stupid because well, frankly, you are providing them with more info than they probably had beforehand.
I have found that even with the PI I help occasionally, the information is kind of scattered and not always reliable. (We use this site for his "$30 quick locate someone" crap stuff and we never guarantee the results due to that the information we get is not always reliable, but we do try to check it out) If you are really curious about what you actually have listed, pay the $20 and see if it's got anything that someone who runs Public Data on you couldn't find.
gr33n3y3z replied: I'm there and so is my 1 son I cant afford to have ppl. trying to find me I will get Ed to take care of me I need mine off as soon as possiable
ashtonsmama replied: OMG I can't believe how much they have on there!
Super creepy. And they do have me under my maiden name... Not married though...
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Yuck! And here I wondered how DH's ex psycho GF found us!!
Boo&BugsMom replied: I found myself under my maiden name too, but then it didn't have the correct information.
MoonMama replied: What in FRIGGIN HE&*!!! I found both DH and I on there!
