Ideas for toy box
juliajaj wrote: Hi everyone. DD will turn 1 in a couple of weeks. She's starting to play with different activitity toys, blocks, etc., so I'm trying to find a good place to store them. What I'd really like to get is some type of large wicker basket/box to put things in so she can continue to use it as she grows up. If I can't find this, I'll get her a toy box, preferably with a removable lid (for safety).
Could you please let me know how you store DD/DS's toys (what do you use, where did you buy it, how big is it, how much did it cost)?
Thanks ladies!
Julie
maliksmommy replied: I actually painted wooden boxes that I bought at Hobby Lobby, but I noticed that Target had some nice larger sized wicker baskets the other day and I don't think they were that expensive. you might be able to look on-line for them:)
supermom replied: We use the large plastic storage boxes with the removable lids that we got at Wal-Mart - I can cover them if I choose or I can just leave them with the lid off....I think they were about $12 each, and we now need 2 of them......but they can be easily washed, and around our house, with cat fur and such, that's kind of important.
amynicole21 replied: I always loved something like this shelf from Pottery Barn Kids. I think I've seen it at Target, too, or you could create one yourself!
MommyToAshley replied: I am going to buy some baskets like that but in the green/pink (the colors of her room) and I already have the shelf. I was going to post the same idea!
Kaitlin'smom replied: right now I have a very large basket lined with white and pink material, sorry I dunno how much it cost I got it full of baby stuff at my shower.
Mommieto2Girls replied: We don't even have a toy box yet just a pile of toys in her room, wanna see a pic ? lol
Mommieto2Girls replied: I think it's time to invest in a toy box, what do you think. lol
CantWait replied: my mom just got a big cardboard box and put walpaper around it to make it look pretty then put some lace trim around the edge...
I personally just use lots of rubermaid containers since I'm such a unclutterbug and like things to be organized

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I have a big wooden bench in my living room, which also doubles as a storage/toybox. Inside the bench, I have a big easter basket (with the nadle removed) that I use as his toy basket...I just pull it out, dump it, then I put it back in in the evening.
Convenient!
I'm hoping to have something like that for both kids rooms soon... a nice bench, a la Trading Spaces , with a big cushion and STORAGE!!!!!!!!
heh heh
Goo dluck!
mom2chris replied: I am using plastic bins on three shelves. The bins lean forward so you can see into them. there are either 2 or 3 bins per shelf depending on the size of the bin. Target, toys r us sell them for about 40.00. the link below is for the storage bins. I love it and my son is able to pull out what ever he needs.

MommyToAshley replied: That looks like a great idea too! I know Ashley loves to pull her own toys out. Putting them back is a different story though, hehe.
How sturdy is the shelf that holds the bins, would it easily tip over? Or does it anchor to the wall?
ediep replied: right now we use a large basket...looks like a giant Easter basket. I got it at my baby shower filled with stuff. We are in the process of finishing our basement, so hopefully, soon most of the toys will be down there. I plan on getting a similar unit to the one that is at Pottery Barn Kids
