If you don't go to church very often, say - something really stupid!

So we drop Katherine off at "God Rocks" which is this particular church's sunday school program. The lady who is in charge of the kids, comes up to me when we dropped her off and says, in this super chipper crazy kindy teacher voice, "Does Katherine know our God is an Awesome God?".
Ummmmmm, I stutter. Do I admit that she doesn't know much about church at all? Do I lie? If I lie, will I get hit by lightning? Shoot! Ok, so I say "uh, not really. she thinks he's a good guy though" I know. Stupid stupid stupid. I was astonished at how lame I must have sounded.
So DH and I sit down for the service and after a few minutes, all of the kids in K's class come out and start singing a song. "our God is an awesome God!" along with dancing. I literally buried my face in DH's shoulder when the realization hit that the teacher was asking about the song...not if K knows God or anything about church. I seriously almost died.
Then everyone got up and took communion. Since I dont' know anything about that, DH and I sat it out. I didn't want to do something I didn't feel comfortable with. Of course, we were the only two people in the whole church that did so.
Needless to say, we won't be going back to that church again.
ediep replied: how funny!!
Although, she could have clarified for you
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
That's hilarious!!! I can totally see myself doing something like that.
A&A'smommy replied: sorry to laugh but I would have stammered too if she said it like that... she should have elaborated the fact that it is a song!!!! BTW I always feel uncomfortable at a new church about taking communion so don't feel bad!!
amynicole21 replied: OMG
moped replied: Oh too funny, but I might have responded the same way!!!!

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I like that song, but in your shoes, I may have responded in a very similar manner. I hope you find a church community you are comfortable in. That can be such a hard decision.
jcc64 replied: Ok, Cary, that is too hilarious! Have you tried a Unitarian Fellowship yet?
redchief replied:
Weird. That's all I have to say.
kit_kats_mom replied: LOL. Well, now that I know better. She was asking if Katherine knew the song so she could participate in the "show". She was totally like some saturday night live version of a sunday school teacher. It's pretty funny now...not so much then.
HuskerMom replied: That's funny! I wonder why she didn't explain it was a song after you said that?
Kentuckychick replied: Lol, I would probably have done the same thing
I don't go to church very often, but this is why I have to say I love the Catholic church, the song books and songs are always the same, the prayers are always the same and the mass... always the same
When you've been to a Catholic church long enough it's impossible to get lost during the service. You stand, you sit, you stand, you kneel, you shake hands, you take communion, you go home. AMEN
redchief replied: I suppose that what I find weird is such a statement to a child. There's a deeper weirdness there in that the statement, and the song, are polytheistic in nature, and therefore fly in the face of the Judean monotheism that "God Rocks" appears to hold as a tenet of faith. The lyrics to the song appear to acknowledge that there are other gods. Like I said, "Weird."
MomToJade&Jordan replied:
I've heard that song, but I would have done the same exact thing.
