Im a Theif - On Walmarts most wanted list

mckayleesmom wrote: or Im gonna be. I accidentally stole a ham people. I just got back from Walmart with Russell. I got all the way out to the car and when I pulled up Russells seat...there was the ham still sitting on the side of his seat. Im a criminal. I didn't go back inside because Russell was already screaming bloody murder and plus I was embarrassed..What was I suppose to say "excuse me, but I just ripped off a ham" blink.gif . The funny thing is I got a thing of nailpolish and in my head I said NOW BRIANNE REMEMBER YOU PUT THAT NAILPOLISH BY HIS SEAT SO YOU DON'T FORGET ABOUT IT.......I saw and remembered the nailpolish, but I didn't see a huge hunk of ham. ohmy.gif ...This is not the first time I have done this either. Out here, most of the grocery stores require you to bag your own groceries...one time I walked out and forgot all about the 4 12 packs of pop on the bottom of the cart.... sad.gif

mommy2owen replied: That is too funny! rolling_smile.gif

But, it sounds like something I would do, so don't feel bad! thumb.gif

5littleladies replied: Lol! laugh.gif I've done that and I always feel stupid so I send Jason back to pay for it so I don't have to look dumb. rolling_smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: ugh I have done that but I think it was something smaller than a ham lol I felt really bad about it too blush.gif

Mommy2BAK replied: Haha, just blame it on "Mommy Brain" LOL rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif

mammag replied: I did that once at the mall in the book store. I was looking at a magazine while dh was looking around. I went to find him, had the mag in my hand and then we walked out of the store. I got a couple of stores down and realized I was still holding the magazine! ohmy.gif I was pretty upset and didn't want to go back in there so I made him walk with me back to the car and put it in. By the time we got there I was too nervous and had him leave. laugh.gif You would've thought I'd walked out with diamonds or something the way I was acting!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Lol! rolling_smile.gif That's pretty funny ~ espcially that you saw the nail polish and not the ham! emlaugh.gif

GavinsMommy replied: Lol, thanks, I needed a good laugh!! rolling_smile.gif That is so funny!! I have done stuff similar to that before. But you know what, don't feel bad, that hunk of ham didn't break Wal-Mart happy.gif

Josie83 replied: Lol that's funny! So if you disappear from here in a few days we'l know that you've been arrested for unlawful posession of a Walmart ham . . . laugh.gif xx

ediep replied: ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

too funny!!! thanks for the laugh!!

Kirstenmumof3 replied:
laugh.gif Oh Brianne, That's just too funny. You remembered the nailpolish, but didn't see the ham. DH and I have done that so many times! Most of the time I usually go back in and explain what happened. But if the kids are cranky it's impossible. Once when we were in Duluth, MN and my DH found a sale on dress pants. So he bought one in every colour, so there were I think 4 or 5 pairs. Well when the rang them up, these weren't the brand that was on sale, so DH said he didn't want them. It was getting pretty late and we just wanted to go and get dinner. So we grabbed our purchases and headed out for dinner. When we got back to the hotel we were checking out what we bought and DH told me that they bagged the pants. ohmy.gif Boy were we scared to cross the border back into Canada. laugh.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: OMGosh! I knew I recognized that face from somewhere! I saw it last night at WalMart in the ham section!! wink.gif

kimberley replied: emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif too funny! same thing has happened to us but it wasn't me putting stuff in the stroller... it was my cleptomaniac shopaholic daughter! rolling_smile.gif

mckayleesmom replied: did she pick out anything good?? rolling_smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: well at least you did not mean to right? hunest mistake to miss such a big HAM LOL I only forget things on the bottem of the cart and usually the cashier or the bagger will see them. Enjoy yoru ham

mckayleesmom replied:
Thats the Thing...I stood at the door of walmart for 15 minutes feeding Russell before going out the door to put him in the car and stuff...I stood there with a 15 dollar ham in plain sight and nobody said..."hey lady....you forgot to pay for that ham".

Kaitlin'smom replied:
well then there loss laugh.gif

I got a pack of dipers for free once, the cashier some how did not ring it up, it was on the belt and she picked it up and bagged it. It did not dawn on me until I wias looking at the reciept

kimberley replied:
LMBO! that is the hilarious part... in her 18mos on this planet she has made off with 2 (YES 2!) stuffed Eeyores, 2 gorgeous bead necklaces from a fair (i had no clue which stall she took them from wacko.gif ), and a coffee crisp bar (i paid for that one after i saw her chewing through the wrapper rolleyes.gif ). i have since learned to not go so close to display stands and frisk her before we leave places rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I had to buy some candy once too...McKaylee ran into a pharmacy in the mall and took a bunch of candy and took bites out of it before I could catch her.

DVFlyer replied: Uh oh, I get to be the only one who thinks you should have gone back in (or at least called them when you got home). I would not consider you a thief, of course. Thieves steal on purpose.

I understand it's "only a $15" ham, but it's not up to us to determine how much Walmart will be hurt by it. We're supposed to do the right thing. If for no other reason than the principle.

You'd expect them to correct a $15 overcharge, right?

And for those about to ask, yes, I'm a hypocrit. I've realized, once, I had something I didn't pay for. Can't remember exactly what it was, but, honestly, I think it was a screw or bolt from Home Depot. I still should have gone back.

The only other time it happened was when the store forgot to charge me for a $99 item. They had it on the counter and just flat forgot to ring it up. When I got home and realized it, I got back in the car, went back and paid for it.

I'd bet if you called them and told them the story, they'd thank you for your honesty and tell you to keep it. And, I'd bet you'd feel a sense of "doing the right thingness".

mammag replied: Of course she "should" have gone back in....but I think it's pretty safe to assume that Walmart will survive this. wink.gif

I would have been too embarrassed to go back and say......."I seem to have stolen a ham".

I guess you're just a better man.... smile.gif

DVFlyer replied: I may be the ONLY man! biggrin.gif wavey.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Yes and this is why it is $15 instead of $5. wink.gif

I've done it, too though. I always call or go up there the next day when at all possible. thumb.gif

DVFlyer replied:
wink.gif

msmzrose replied: I also think you should have gone back. I know we can justify it as only 15.00 But, what if are kids took something? Wouldn't we make them go back. Well why don't we set the example? That is what is wrong with this world. Everyone is always making excuses for why they don't do they right thing. Yes, it would have taken time, yes it would have been embarassing. It was an accident. They happen. But, set a good example. That way when your kids make a mistake they will do the right thing.

Just my 2 cents.....

texasp3 replied: LOL... um, well, I say you should go back. Maybe you'll have more luck than I did. Right before Christmas, I was shopping at Target. I was getting a few things for a birthday present for a friend's daughter. The cashier rang it up, bagged it, and handed my bags to me.

I got to the car, drove to my friend's apartment complex, got out the little presents and put them in the gift bag with the card and pretty tissue and all. Then I had used everything I bought.. but hey, what's this small bag still sitting here on the car seat with... Oh my, a Queen's Greatest Hits CD in it... with a reciept! NOT MY PURCHASE. I can only imagine that the person behind me got home and said "Where the #$%^ is my Queen CD??"

Well, I tried to do the right thing. I DID. It was freakin' nightmare. I guess no one ever tries to return something they didn't pay for at Target. They have no policy, they have no procedure. I confused them completely and they didn't know WHAT to do with me. It was HYSTERICAL!!! I actually tried two different Targets. I even suggested that I just give it to the customer service desk and they hold it in case someone called saying "Where the #$%^ is my Queen CD?" They acted like I had lost my marbles. What can I say, I'm a preacher's kid... my marbles were stolen at birth.

I eventually gave up. Michael loves Queen, and enjoyed getting their Greatest Hits CD for Christmas.

My2Beauties replied: YOu know I didn't think this would turn into a debate as I started reading on dry.gif I mean what person has not done this? I think Brianne was just thinking it was funny that she had a "duh" moment and wanted to share with us, I don't think we should criticize her for not taking it back when we all know we have done the same exact thing. She didn't purposely do it, Wal-Mart makes billions of dollars every year breaking little mom and pop stores down and clearing them out, so sorry kharma caught up with them! Don't get me wrong I shop at Wal-Mart but I attend the world 7th best Entrepreneurial Business School in the US, and we have had one too many Wal-Mart conversations and talked about their Business Ethics and the way they treat their employees - they're not a very nice company!!!! wink.gif Also, go to walmartsucks.com, you'll find some extremely disgruntled employees some of whom have been sexually harrassed and all sorts of things...I just find it hard to believe that you guys are getting on her for not returning a ham!

Daisyx3 replied: rolling_smile.gif How funny. I have done that before. one time I walked out of a local grocery store in a small town we lived in with a pack of gum. I new people who worked there so next time I went in I said you need to charge me for gum. She laughed at me and so did the owner. They said "Chew it on us" LMBO..

I took something back in to a different store once and noone said "thanks for bringing it in" I was a little annoyed but o well.

Josie83 replied: ITA _ Can we keep it clean please and not have this start into a debate? I think we've all had enough of that over the past few days wink.gif xx

kit_kats_mom replied: That's hysterical!
I would have returned the ham if I had my kids who were of "learning" age with me & used it as an example that 1) adults make mistakes and 2) we have to do what we can to rectify our mistakes. But I understand why you didn't.

However, I've done the same thing (not ham LOL) pre kids and considered it a bonus.

And let me tell you, I now put nothing in the top of my cart under the carrier, I've had to go back one too many times with items that hide under there. It is totally moritifying

DVFlyer replied: I don't think anyone is saying she did it on purpose. It's obvious it was a mistake. And a funny mistake at that. I doubt anyone here thinks she's a bad person for not returning the ham. It is stealing, though. The level at which one chooses to determine the justification for it is what's up for debate.

Daisyx3 replied:
Is there a hot topics board on this website? thats where this should go. Lol

ammommy replied: laugh.gif That's funny! True Mommy brain and I've done it.
I went back the next day to tell them that they forgot to charge me for the shirt and that really confused the poor chick behind the counter. The manager on the other hand started lecturing me about how they prosecute shoplifters and how she should call the cops. I said a few words to her and ended up leaving the silly shirt at the store. That's what you get for being honest dry.gif

mckayleesmom replied: That was something I was afraid of also..and I had russell with me.

iluvmysweetiepies replied:
LMAO! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif Watch out! She'll be a shopaholic in no time!! LOL! At least she picked some good stuff!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Well, the question is not whether or not it hurts WAL MART....It is the many ways it hurts US and our children. The truth is, it hurts us in many, many ways.

Anyway, I'm not starting a debate. I think it is rather funny and like I said...I've BTDT! biggrin.gif Had I been in her shoes, I probably wouldn't have gone back, either. I know Brianne well enough to know she makes good judgement. Her judgement at the time was to take care of her son who needed her. Brianne...no hard feelings, right? grouphug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I am sorry this turned into a debate when it was just meant to be a funny story. I don't think anyone meant to hurt anyone's feelings though, I think they were just sharing their own beliefs.

But, I have to say, the story was funny! HAHAHAHAHA! Thanks for the good laugh. I always knew you were a ham! LOL!

Once...I forgot about a case of coke that was under my cart, and I realized that it wasn't on my receipt when I got in the car. When I went back inside, I walked up to the cashier and told them what happened and wanted to pay for the coke. She looked at me and told me that I would have to go to the back of the line. This was at Christmas time, it was at least a 45 minute wait in the line. wacko.gif So, I just left. blush.gif

Ashley also used to grab stuff when she was in her stroller, I'd have to give her the pat down before we left the store. laugh.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
None...Everyone has their opinions and I respect that... wavey.gif

taylor&zachsmom replied: I think I would have to agree. I would have either gone back in then. If not possible to go in then I would have called and let them know. But, I have done that in the past and saw that I wasn't charged for something in my bag. I then went inside showed them the recipt and paid for it then.

As for the embarrassment of not paying. Just tell them you were looking at the recipt and realized that it didn't get rung up. They will understand. Sometimes the UPC code doesn't scan and they don't realize it. As far as they know that is what happened. Not that it was not seen. KWIM?
