I'm a bad mommy
5littleladies wrote: Today I was changing Lissie out of her p.j.'s into her clothes and I noticed what I thought was a piece of fluff underneath her toes. I tried to pull it off but Lissie started crying so I thought maybe it was a scab that was causing her pain. I looked more closely and I realized that she had a piece of my hair would so tightly around her poor little toes that they had swollen up underneath and the hair was cutting through her toes. What I thought was fluff was wound up in the hair. I had to use a fingernail clippers to get it off and she cried and I cried and when I finally got it off she fell right to sleep there on the floor. I feel so bad-I should have noticed sooner but she has been wearing nothing but sleepers these past few days and I just don't look at her feet that closely when I switch her from one sleeper to another and the hair was where normal toe creases are. Still I should have noticed-I'm her mommy. I called Sara crying and told her what happened and I called Jas at work crying and asked him to come home and I'm still crying and it's been almost an hour and a half.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Oh, honey, you noticed, that is what matters. You are a great mommy. Hugs to you, Lissie will be fine.
C&K*s Mommie replied:
EXACTLY!!! You are a FAB mom, keep looking forward, & taking the best care of those great children you have! Many, many 's to you!
mckayleesmom replied: That happened with Russell too....One night he was really cranky and I had tried everything and it wasn't working...FINALLy...I remembered reading an article about someone saying their baby kept crying and it turned out to be a hair on the babies toe.......I undid his sleepy jammies and sure enough..it was wrapped so tightly...he screamed as I tried to get it undone......Thank goodness he was ok...the lady from the story wasn't so lucky, her baby lost a toe.....You are not a bad mom....things happen that you don't see or have control over.
coasterqueen replied: Ah hun, that happened to my friends granddaughter too, seems more common than you'd think. Still I know how you feel. Since you are sharing your bad mommy story I'll share mine.
Megan started taking an antibiotic the evening of 11/29. The same one Kylie took a few days before that. Well Kylie was taking it 3 x a day. I literally read Megan's prescription on the bottle before giving it to her, but somehow I skipped past the "2x a day" and was giving it to her 3x a day. I was over dosing her for almost 3 days. I didn't realize til around 11 pm last night so I called the telenurse, pharmacist and Ryan crying my eyes out trying to make sure she was going to be ok and begging them to tell me I'm not the only parent who has ever done this. I still feel awful. Explains why she got a yeast diaper rash even after I've been giving her acidophilus to keep it away.
My3LilMonkeys replied: These sort of things happen to everyone. You are not a bad mom.
holley79 replied: Oh sweetie I am sorry. Lissie will be fine. I have never heard of this so a new note going into the notebook.
You are an awesome mom.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Hugs to you and Karen. Jennifer a friend of mine's daughter had hair wrapped around her finger when she was an infant. It was scary. It didn't take long for her finger to turn blue. You caught it, hun. You both will be fine and you are a TERRIFIC mommy!! I would have reacted the same way, though.
Karen, I imagine having 2 kiddos on meds is SO difficult to administer. I'm sure Megan will be just fine. I'm sorry about the rash.
5littleladies replied: Thanks everyone. After I read Brianne's post I started searching and found it is so common it actually has a name-Toe tourniquet syndrome. I guess that makes me feel a little better but I'm still sad that I didn't prevent my baby from being in pain. At least she won't be losing any toes though.
I'm sorry Karen. I've never had to give 2 kids meds at once before but I would probably get things mixed up too. I hope Miss Megan's diaper rash clears up soon!
jacobsmama replied: My friends baby also ended up at the ER becuase she had a hair wrapped so tightly she couldn't get it off and her daughter was crying. The ER dr told her that is one of the most common things related to crying children and parents not being sure. Just be glad you found it and I"m sure you are a great mom!!
Insanemomof3 replied: That happened to Demetrius too. I felt so bad, 3 of his toes were cut...I had to use tons of neosporin on them. You are not a horrible mom, I had a dr appointment the day I noticed the hair and my doc said that happens ALL THE TIME with kids in sleepers. He just told me to always check and it should be fine. (He even told me one kid he saw had a hair wrapped tight around his little penis. Poor thing)
You are a great mom!!!
holley79 replied: Jennifer where did you find that article? I am going to have to look that up tonight while I'm at work.
USMCwife replied: I will also have to remember this. Its not something that you really think about, but it sounds very common.
I am new here, but this doesnt make you a bad momma at all! When something happens to our little angels we always blame ourselves even when we have no control over it!
holley79 replied: I found many articles doing a google search. It does seem very common.
Here is a link I was just reading.
