I'm fuming right now about my sitter!
coasterqueen wrote: Kylie went to a waterpark today with our sitter and the other kids. Megan stayed home with Dh because I don't want her to have sunblock on her skin this early in age and so she can't be out in the sun. Anyways, I go to pick up Kylie and her cheeks and nose are BEAT RED! I made a remark like "OMG Kylie look how red your face is", but not in a mean way. Her sitter replied saying she had lathered her w/sunblock. My thought was "ya must have forgot the cheeks and nose!".
I then was met by another little girl that goes there and her head is 5X redder than Kylie's cheeks and nose. OUCH! If I was her mom I'd be more livid than I am.
If her face peels I'm going to chew her a new one because I've worked so hard ot make sure her skin is protected.
Sorry needed to vent. Thank Goodness I didn't send Megan today!
mummy2girls replied: OMG that was so stupid of the sitter! Geez.... I wouldnt even dare to forget putting sunblock on the girl i care for because of being scared she may get sunburned! I would defenitly chew into her tomorrow if she is worse and peeling. Usually by morning you will see the full affect of the sunburn. Ive had that happen and seen it in many kids! They seema little red or alot red and then the next day they are so sore and really red... Goop her with alot of aloe vera gel tonight. Poor kylie!
b&bsmom replied: I would never take the kids I watch out without sunblock. Especially on the face and especially at a water park. I know how my kids get with their fair skin and the reflection off the water makes my kids get so red in the face. You have every right to be angry. Anyway hope Kylie is ok. Good luck.
mammag replied: That is awful! I am the same I really lather them up...even putting it in their hair and feel bad because they go home with greasy hair but you can get skin cancer on your skalp too so I don't want to take chances with little ones.
I don't blame you for being mad and I bet the other parent was too.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I know how you feel Kait had a mild sunburn after being at a pool with sitter. She did put on sunscreen on her I just think it did not have enough time to soak in before she got wet. I was shocked it happend and felt bad for Kait, thankfully it was not bad. I did tell the sitter to make sure she re-applies it or let it soak in, she was sorry it happend and was also supprised since she used SPF 50 on all the kids. the other thing I have done is if I know they will be outside or swimming I put her sunscrean on before I drop her off.
DansMom replied: Poor Kylie!
jacobsmama replied: that was a very bad choice...She had to have known that you would be upset about that and likewise with the other moms!!! Geesh..Poor Kylie...Hope she wakes up a little less red.
MommyToAshley replied: Poor Kylie... hopefully it won't be so bad in the morning. From her pics, Kylie doesn't look fair skinned so maybe it will turn tan instead of burning.
I'd be pretty upset with the sitter as well. It's already done, not sure what you can do other than make sure the sitter NEVER lets it happen again.
Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I`d be horrified!
I mean - sunburns happen - BUT - how long does the kid have to be in the sun to burn?
I know that I send sunblock with my kids - minimum spf 30 - and I send spf 50 as well.... so... if it takes 10 minutes to burn, they`re good outside for a couple hours.... so either they were outside wayyyyy longer than that, or the sittter didn`t put any on.
Boys r us replied: OH NO!!! I would be upset too!! But I will say, and I know this from experience , it is really hard to keep them adaquately protected when they are playing in water all day! When we go tot he beach, I lather my kids up constantly, but inevitably, they end up red somewhere b/c even the waterproof stuff has to be reapplied nearly continuously!
coasterqueen replied: Well she still looks pretty red this morning and I found other parts of her that are pink I just keep slapping lotion on there and she doesn't like it.
Her dcp said she lathered her before they went and midway through their day. Well apparently it wasn't enough I gave her lotion and told her to put it on Kylie's face several times today to keep it moisturized. She better do it.
I just hope it doesn't peel. Sunburns are a big thing for me because my grandpa has had to have skin spots taken off many a times.
A&A'smommy replied: UGH I would have been upset too.. but it may not have been because she didn't put it on there it could have been that she didn't reaply soon enough you have to do that after about 45minutes or so.. I burn easily because I'm real light skinned I burn on my face if if I don't reaply sometimes I burn anyway.
Anyway poor kids I hope they don't peel or hurt!!
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, I know. I'm extremely fair skinned and burn within seconds of being outside so I know about the burn. Oh well can't do anything about it now. She knows how I feel so hopefully it won't be repeated.
A&A'smommy replied: Poor kid I noticed that she was light skinned that is what made me think she probably needed it more put on more than what she did! I hope she wont do it again!!
jcc64 replied: I agree with Nichole- my kids are dark and seldom burn, but when we are at the beach or at a water park, they inevitably wind up with a lot of color on their cheeks, no matter how many times I apply sunblock. Sunscreen can't ever completely eliminate sun damage- all it does is slow it down some and provide you more time before it occurs. If they were there all day, with no break from a strong sun, I almost think it was inevitable. I often think a better strategy is to get out of the sun completely in the middle of the day for a few hours. It certainly sounds like she could have made more of an effort to keep the kids from burning. I think you have a right to say something, in a diplomatic way.
3xsthefun replied: Oh, no. I would been upset also! I hope that Kylie's sunburn is little better now!
