I'm going to attempt to make

DillsMommy wrote: a pot roast for dinner tonight, in the crock pot. BUT I've never made one before so I have a few questions. happy.gif Like....what the heck do I do? laugh.gif
I know it's not hard but......
Do I add water--how much? I have a 6qt crock pot. Do I season the meat with anything special or just salt and pepper? I know it can cook pretty much all day but I'm not sure what setting I put in on. High or low? blush.gif I'm so clueless. I think that's it. I'm off to the store now for carrots, potatoes, and onions to put in with it.
Mmm... I'm getting hungry already.

MommyToAshley replied: I usually season the meat with salt, pepper, and a little garlic. (you can use a meat marinade if you want). You don't need to add too much as the celery, oninos and carrots will add some flavor. You just put the meat in, add the celery, carrots, potatoes and onions. Fill with water to cover the top of the food. (For me that's to the top as I stuff it full). Cook it for at least 8 hours on low. If I don't get the roast on in time, I use the setting to alternate between high and low and cook it for 6 hours. I love pot roast -- yum yum.

DillsMommy replied: Oh yeah--Celery. I knew I was forgetting something. Thanks! thumb.gif
It sounds easy enough. I hope it turns out okay.....

luvmykids replied: I like to sear mine first, but you don't have to. I add whatever I have on hand....cream of mushroom soup, or a packet of onion soup mix, or meat marinade. You can't really go wrong! thumb.gif

BabyOwen427 replied: Oh yum! I just made pot roast yesterday for dinner. I put the roast in with two cans of beef broth. Sprinkled dry onion soup mix over the top and let it cook. I did 6 hours on high and it was moist and wonderful. I didn't put any veggies in the pot, I cooked them at the last minute on the stove. Corn and mashed potatoes. The remaining drippings in the crock pot I used to make my gravy.

lisar replied: instead of using water I use beef broth. Add a little flour to thicken it, and make biscuits. Thats what I do. We use the juice on the biscuits and its yummy

boyohboyohboy replied: I buy lipton beefy onion soup mix and throw in the meat the carrots and the potatoes. and some water..and its so yummy! and then you can make gravy from what is left in the crock pot, make it right in the crock pot!

DillsMommy replied: Alright, it's a cookin.
I got it in a little later that I had hoped so I have it on high for now. And I remembered about the onion soup mix while I was at the store so I got some of that too. So far so good. It looks yummy already. I can't wait for the house to smell like it. laugh.gif Oh and I'm going to make some corn bread. I just love it.

MommyToAshley replied: So... how did it turn out?

Thanks to you, I have a roast in the crock pot right now. It sucks that I have to smell it cooking all day though. It smells so good that it makes me hungry and I snack all day long.

Calimama replied:
We add it too and it makes a big difference! I love that stuff.

mammag replied: Mmmm, I know what we are having for dinner tomorrow!!! That sounds sooooo good! And what a perfect meal to come home to after trick or treating!!

MommyToAshley replied:
That's why I made it today... our trick or treat is tonight. laugh.gif
