I'm on my 3rd glass of wine.......... - and it's not even 6:00 yet!!!!!!!!
Farelle wrote: Ok...so they were only 1/4 filled so that equals about one full glass. I swear today is my LAST day of meals in this house. Meal time is so CHAOTIC that I can't even stand it anymore. My 18 month old throws all the food, hardly eats and the new thing is screaming. He of course gets my 3 year old going and before I know it I am screaming at the two of them to stop!!! I don't mind a little fooling around at the table but is it really too much to ask for like 10 minutes out of the day where we can sit and eat in peace!?!?!?
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Yes, that really is way too much to expect. I try to distract mine with the forbidden TV while I'm getting food to them. Usually works.
Sorry its so crazy. Hang in there !
BTW--- love your avatar pic ! Your kids are cuties. Love their hair color. How'd you get your oldest to put his arm around the little one ? The only time Sammy will even touch Abby is if he's knocking her down.
Farelle replied:
AHHHHH!!! LOL
Oh well....some day we'll eat in peace again! ha!
Thanks!! I don't know why they have reddish tints to their hair....I guess maybe DH has a tint of red....or does he?? LOL Can you believe that picture was taken when we got HOME from having pictures taken that didn't come out NEARLY as good as that one (or the other 10 I took at home that day) LOL
Hmmm, I think I bribed him to give his little brother a hug by promising a hershey kiss!! Those always seem to work!
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: ONLY a Hershey Kiss ?!!!!!!!!!! Wow -- you've got it made. Sammy already has us bribing him with Thomas the Tank Engine Trains. ROFL (The kind WITH OUT the lead paint, of course.)
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sounds like you had one of my regular evenings! 5pm is "witching hour" in my house. Its when I'm trying to make dinner and the kids are running around like monkeys. My 2.5 year old is jumping on his brother and making him cry and my youngest is screaming to be fed. And ah yes, if I'm lucky, I have a glass of wine in hand! I've found that feeding the kids early helps bring a little peace. I also set the table around 3pm or so....EARLY is key. I also get them both in pjays early now too, so that once DH is home and we're sitting down for dinner, the kids are already fed and dressed for bed. If they want to eat a second meal with us, fine, but if they don't, this way they can play while we eat.
Farelle replied:
Meal time is the WORST part of my day, I swear every day that it's our last meal! LOL. My little one will only sit still for like 5 minutes (if that), then he starts throwing the food, which he hardly eats any of, or gets his big brother to start screaming and/or spitting!! I made him sit by himself in the corner at lunch today and he quieted right down....so I let him go back to the table for the millisecond that he behaved.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Yep, I just experienced the exact same scenario. Gave both boys lunch...Big brother got canned ravioli (never tried it, but I wanted it to be easy today), but he turned up his nose. So he only ate his strawberries. And then picked at the watermelon I gave him causing huge chunks of it to fly all over his clothes and floor. The little guy had turkey sticks (again, a really icky food processed food, but he likes it sometimes and its easy peasy)...Well he decided to smoosh it all over the highchair and in his hair. So I gave him some chunks of watermelon and those went on the floor. So I threw everything in the sink, took their clothes off and now we're down in the basement watching Barnie. I don't even want to look at the kitchen right now! Its sooooooooooo tiring, but I'm assuming everyone with small kids goes through it. Like everything, it should get better. Hang in there! Boys are a lot of work..so messy!
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I feel for ya both. Thankfully Alyx loves to eat so mealtime isn't a big deal. That is unless I don't get it shoved in her mouth quick enough, or on the plate fast enough for her to do it. Good luck.
Farelle replied: Meal time is just such a nightmare!! The worst part is that my little one throws the food and makes a mess and doesn't EAT and then an hour later is crying and crying bc he's hungry!!! Well, if he'd just eaten his food..........
I wouldn't even mind the mess and fussing if it didn't come down to that. And DH... just doesn't get it that I would appreciate a few minutes out of the day to SIT and eat......
Add a neurotic dog and a cat that begs WORSE than any dog I have ever had and most meals I am running up the stairs to lock myself in the bedroom....and log on here!
holley79 replied: Maybe Annika will remain an only child.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: ROFL @ Annika remaining an only child
I'll admit things are alot crazier for me with two kids vs. one,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but its worth it. Sam and Abby are actually pretty good during meal time. Abby will whine if I dont get her food to her fast enough and since she's only one,,,, she does toss her food on the floor to see what will happen,,,,again and again and again and again and again. What gets me the most at meal time is that she will throw her cup of milk to the floor every 3 minutes and then whines because she wants a drink and Mommy didnt pick it up fast enough. LOL
Keep the Faith -- it should get better in about 18 yrs.
