I'm such a chicken. Anybody else?

Crystalina wrote: I took the kids to the fireworks store. I usually get my fireworks from Wal-mart just because... so I was not expecting the frisking and paperwork I had to do to enter this store. happy.gif Then I had to lie and say that the fireworks were leaving the state due to not being able to let them off in this state. You can buy them all day but you just can't set them off here. rolleyes.gif So after the kindly officer told me just to lie ( ohmy.gif rolleyes.gif ) I got to enter.

I have absolutely no clue what any of these fireworks do and I'm scared to death to buy them not knowing. They have weird names and no directions. Just a fuse. What do you do, light it and run?? huh.gif The kids wanted this and then that and I'm telling them no because mommy has no clue what those do. We walked out with snaps and sparklers. emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif I feel safe with those. I'll go back with DH but I doubt he'll know what they do. He's the kind to light it and figure it out afterwards. rolleyes.gif

Do any of you know what most of them do? Some of those things were in the hundreds of dollars. blink.gif

grapfruit replied: couple hundred dollar ones are the big booms.

Some need special tubes to be lit off in. I'd just ask. They should know what they're selling!

HuskerMom replied:
My Dh is the same way. rolleyes.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I have an idea about most of them because fireworks were BIG at my house we always had kind of a show one year we had some REALLY big ones that was fun we even had some like giant sparly ones.. anyway yeah you could ask and they wil tell you about them and if you need something to set them in before you light the fuse. I LOVE fireworks tongue.gif

msoulz replied: There was a little boy on the news whose mother died last year when she looked into one of those big tube fireworks and it went off. It was heartbreaking seeing him talk about it. sad.gif

fireworks safety

Please, all, be so careful with any of those things!!!!

PrairieMom replied: We stick to the small ground things, the snaps, worms, smoke bombs and stuff like that. I like the ones that spin and "emit showers of sparks" laugh.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: What state do you live in? Here in MN as far as I know all they sell are the kind that don't leave the ground... the boring ones. tongue.gif When I was a kid we used to drive the 45 minutes to the South Dakota border and buy a bunch of bottle rockets and the big cool ones to set off every July 4th. happy.gif I never did the actual setting them off though, so I would be clueless too if I went to get any now! tongue.gif Not that I'd be able to afford the big cool ones anyways - I can't believe how expensive they are! I wonder what prices were like when I was younger... we weren't loaded or anything! tongue.gif I remember going with my BIL once when I was about 13 and being so impressed that he spent a hundred dollars total on everything we got.

mom21kid2dogs replied: Crystal lives in OH, where it's legal to buy them but not set them off. rolleyes.gif
Sorry, no help on your questions . . .we go to Red, White & Boom every year so they can pay the big bucks and we are safer than letting them off in the backyard. tongue.gif With my luck, I'd blow my hand off for sure!

Calimama replied: I have no idea. We don't buy ANY.. not even snaps. We live close enough to the beach that we can see the big show from our backyard so we just do that.

gr33n3y3z replied:
If they cost that much non of you need to light them off LOL
I have no clue if they are not marked or have directions I wouldnt touch them

luvmykids replied: I have no clue and I'm a chicken too. My BIL who is a fireman always does our pyrotechnics on the 4th rolling_smile.gif

Crystalina replied:
I used to go to RW&B also but since the kids we haven't went. I'm so scared of losing them. That place is soooo busy but the food is sooo worth it! OMG, you can get food from anywhere in the world at those booths. yummy.gif I used to spend way too much money for food there. rolling_smile.gif It's an hour from my house but it was worth it.

Yes, I live in Ohio. I'm not sure why we can buy them but not set them off here. rolleyes.gif And they know that 98% of the people that buy at this store have no intention of leaving town to set them off. happy.gif

I know firecrackers, smoke bombs, snaps, sparklers and bottle rockets, anything else is foreign to me. wacko.gif We can't do firecrackers at my house d/t the goats and horses. Especially with Gyro my fainting goat. He would throw himself into a coma. emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif
