Is it possible for them to make babies?
Crystalina wrote: In our area we have bobcats and I have a house cat who had a litter over a year ago. One of her babies is much larger then the rest. He stands taller then all of them and even taller then the Yorkies. He has very prominent male parts and he's very heavy and muscular. He's not fat at all but very solid when you pick him up. His head is very large also. I have to use both of my hands to fit around his head. And his teeth are larger then the other cats. One other thing is that he has regular soft cat hair but he has very course hair mixed with it. None of the other cats from that litter are like him. There is one, however, who is regular cat size, has regular cat hair but on the very tips of his ears he has the longer black hair (that extends past his actual ears) and it's tipped with white hair. That is the only odd feature on that particular cat. I was just wondering if it's possible she could have mated with a regular cat and also a bobcat. It's almost like one cat got the bobcat body and one only got the longer hair on the ears.
Don't laugh at me.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Yes they can breed. I have a friend who had a bobcat/barncat litter. It would not be impossible to have one or 2 out of the litter because while they are in heat they can take with several different daddies Watch him as he gets older they can become very aggressive. Coyotes can mate with dogs too...
cameragirl21 replied: heck yeah, it's possible, in fact, there are breeders who charge a lot of money for a cat/bobcat or cat/lynx combo. Please post pics, I love seeing what they look like. If I weren't all about rescuing homeless kittens, I would SO want one.
Crystalina replied: I told the kids last night to be careful with him. He lets them drag him all over the place. I showed them his teeth and said that one day he may get mean for no reason and to just stop dragging him around just in case. He will leave and be gone sometimes days at a time but the last three days all he's been doing his laying his extremely large body on my couch.
I just wasn't sure if it were possible. I wonder why a bobcat wouldn't kill her instead (or after) mating. Aren't they very mean? When I know of one that's been seen in the area I stay inside as much as possible.
Crystalina replied: I'll try to get a picture of him. He really needs to be picked up though. I just can't believe the difference in his weight compared to the others. He's all muscle.
grapfruit replied: Maybe he wasn't hungry and she "smelled good" if you catch my drift....
Oh and yeah, I'm dying to see pictures too!
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I am not sure why they don't kill them...maybe they are just chilled out after the nookie! If he is already a year old, he may be OK. I wanted one of my friends litter but they ended up not being fit for pets They became very aggressive at pretty young, especially when they were eating-they would let out the weirdest growl if you just walked by and if you stuck around they would draw blood. On the other hand we have another friend who found a kitten that is now obviously a mix and he is as nice as he can be. I know what you are saying about picking him up-they are unbelievably strong and solid! We just had a litter of coyotes/domestic pups born down the road and I heard from the vet that he was going to have to put 2 down but they wanted to keep 2...IDK why some get the aggressive side and some seemingly don't.
grapfruit replied: I think it's just the way the genes fall, and how aggressive the parents are.
On the topic of "mixes". My old 4-H advisor (who has a farm) had a zeorse (zebra-horse). I'm not sure which was the mom and which was the dad, but that sucker was MEAN. He had like laser sighted hoofs that could hit you even when you THOUGHT you were out of range. A guy from the rodeo ended up buying him. They warned him NOT to use him for the rodeo b/c they were afraid he'd kill somebody. He was just "eye candy" for the farm. He hung out in the front pasture w/the goats, mini, and llamas. Oh and 45 the brama/angus bull that was raised in the kitchen.
punkeemunkee'smom replied:
I thought the porch was bad! That is what Toro is 1/2 Brangus 1/2 Charlotte....yeah you can imagine how big he is already!
luvmykids replied: I'm pretty sure lisar here has a cat/bobcat, that thing is HUGE. We had a dog that was half coyote...he was the best dog ever, but I think it was a fluke
grapfruit replied: LoL, I wasn't around at that time, but I've seen pictures!! They put a mattrace in the kitchen and 45 and a little orphan colt spent the winter in the kitchen, b/c they needed so much attention.
I think this was before the "germ craze"
Boo&BugsMom replied: I have always thought that our larger cat (over 20 pounds) is half bobcat. His mom was a slut and slept around. She was a stray cat that someone took in, then kept the kittens and gave them away, then got the mom fixed. Taz, our large cat, is the one we took. He is the SWEETEST cat though. The best cat ever. A bit scared of kids, but very friendly. He looks just like a bobcat though. Our smaller cat's mom was also from a stray...but a different stray. Again, people took her in as well and gave away the kittens so we took one. We have lots of stray wild cats around where they are both from. Not sure about bobcats though. Sure weird how he looks just like one though.
I want to see a pic so I can see if he looks like our Taz!
