Is this too heavy for a lunch birthday party?

coasterqueen wrote: We are trying to figure out how to feed 55 people at the lunch hour for Megan's 1st birthday party. wacko.gif Why did I have a child in the dead of winter? sleep.gif Was so much easier with Kylie's because everyone was outside, brought their own picnic lunch, CHEAPER. happy.gif

Anyways I think we decided that we are going to serve Spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread and salad because most all of Ryan's family is Italian and they can make some HUGE batches of pasta and taste good too. happy.gif Ryan asked his cousin last night if he'd help him make all the food since Ryan doesn't know how to make huge batches like that and his cousin said yes.

So is that really too heavy of a meal for lunch? I really don't like the idea of serving what we are. I'd rather do hors deouvres but the thought of something simple like the pasta grew on me so that's what it will be. You think this is a good lunch to serve? Ryan's family will eat pasta anytime of the day so I know it'll be ok for them. laugh.gif

Edit to add I still don't know how I'm going to fit that many people in my house to FEED them this type of meal though. bigthink.gif See this is where hors deouvres would be better. SIGH.

booey2 replied: Sounds perfect, if people know that is what you are serving they will eat lighter at supper. Go for it. thumb.gif

kimberley replied: if they are mostly italian.. then yes, that is perfect tongue.gif i would probably do homemade pizza for the kids too tho just in case they don't want pasta. have you picked a theme?

coasterqueen replied:
Oh no, the kids there are pasta freaks....they have to be in our family. laugh.gif My two girls could eat pasta every day of the week. emlaugh.gif

We are going with the Pink Teddy Bear theme I posted before. I don't have the pic here or I'd show you. It's not really a theme per se, it will be on the plates, napkins and cups, but that's it. I think I am going to make a 3D teddy bear cake, though so I guess it's a theme. tongue.gif

kimberley replied: thumb.gif that sounds nice. i am sure it will turn out perfect!

luvmykids replied: Sounds good! I love those parties, then when we get home and are pooped everybody just needs a snack type dinner and I don't have to cook! thumb.gif

kayla's mama replied: I think it sounds good. thumb.gif That type of menu is great cause when we get home all we have then is a snack

MomToJade&Jordan replied: It sounds good to me Karen. Then again I can eat spaghetti for days bein italian myself.

BAC'sMom replied: Sounds great... and you also gave me a great idea for supper tonight. thumb.gif

Boys r us replied: Sounds good to me!! I'm sure it will all turn out great!

salmndr007 replied: Ok, let me tell you how it is. I am italian...spaghetti is my world. As a matter of fact, any italian food will be gone before it is even put in front of me. I think that will be a perfect lunch. Us italians can handle a good carb-load for lunch and still survive the day rolling_smile.gif

Note: There will be a charge for this information. The fees will include admission to the spaghetti lunch. J/K I hope you guys have a great time and wish the little one HAPPY BIRTHDAY for me.

coasterqueen replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif You are so funny.

DH keeps asking me if I was an Italian in another life because I can eat pasta 24/7, 3 meals a day 7 days a week and not get old of it. laugh.gif

salmndr007 replied:

Must be! That is how I am too. Anything Italian = my best friend

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif I don't think that would be too much food. And in the long run it would probably be cheaper to make pasta than all those appetizers.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I think it is a good idea, since it seems that everyone will like it. For Mackenzie's birthday this year I am going to make chili and bbq.

gr33n3y3z replied: Sounds great to me smile.gif

ediep replied: since I am Italian too, I say its perfecto!!!

Thats exactly what I would serve for a party, especially if my family were going to be there

PrairieMom replied: it sounds fine to me, but I wouldn't turn down any free meal!

Another idea might be a make your own sandwich buffet. i had one at my wedding. i just went to the gorcery store deli and had them cut me up a few pounds of turkey, ham , and chicken, a few different kinds of cheese, got a few different kinds of bread, like wheat buns, white buns and crossants, and sliced up some different vegis, like tomatos, onions and lettuce and had a few different condiments there. everyone made their own sandwiches, and I never had to cook.

coasterqueen replied:
Dh is actually leaning towards this now. The man can't make up his mind. rolleyes.gif So if we don't go pasta this is what we'll do. He does make a good point, though, about doing what you mentioned. That is that we have enough seating for about 50 people BUT that includes the couches and I'm not sure I want someone eating pasta sitting on the couch even if they are using a tv tray. unsure.gif

jacobsmama replied: this is true too. It would be hard to eat spaghetti if you weren't sitting at a table type setting and salad too with it. But it would sure tase delicious either way!! tongue.gif
