It was like someone - threw cold water on my face

I don't know what came over me, but I was just stunned!!!

I called my mom the next day, because I was a little shaken up emotionally about it, but not in a bad way....

I told her "Mom! I'm only 34!!!"

She laughed and said "Welcome to my world honey" (she was 36 when she became a grandma).

OMG! I don't know what stopped me in my tracks but it's weird that the reality of it, knowing the baby is a girl, seeing her growing belly, just hit me out of the blue!!!

My neighbor is 35 and has 4 grandchildren - her husbands daughters ahd kids!

Bee_Kay replied: Lacy is legally my stepdaughter, she is 18 years old. Shortly before I met my DH, her biological mother moved to another state and sort of walked out of her life. She took an immediate liking to me and eventually (very short time) started calling me "mommy"...... That was 16 years ago. So, she is my stepdaughter, but I don't see her as one.

I said I wouldn't go shopping yet, but I find myself browsing around the baby section in different stores

So far I've bought a carseat, diapers, bottles, pacifiers, sleepers, onesies, I made that diaper bag, next I want to make her a quilt.

My mom goes by Mimi, my dad by Poppi.

My husband's dad is Grandpa, his wife (my hubby's stepmom, who is more like a mom to him than his real mom) is Grandma

His real mom tried to go by Mimi, too, b/c that is what his other daughter calls her, but I do not encourage my children to call her that b/c I dont want it to be confusing for my kids b/c they see my parents very frequently (a couple of times a wk) and see her almost never (they havent seen her since before Christmas- she has issues & we dont want the kids around her if possible). I'm thinking of encouraging them to call her "Granny" or something like that, when/if they start to see her again.
