It's that time of year again - need opinions

Maddie&EthansMom wrote: It's time to get my eyes checked. Right now I wear contacts and have some back up glasses. Ethan broke my newest pair of glasses so the ones I wear in the evenings are several years old (like 6). ohmy.gif And I can't really see out of these contacts so I know it's time for an exam.

The optometrist that I saw last time has moved. I was wondering, for those who wear glasses or contacts, where the least expensive place to get an exam and glasses would be.

Kaitlin'smom replied: Well for glasses STAY AWAY FROM LENS CRAFTERS they rip you off. I heard walmart had good prices on glasses. Contacts run about the same everwhere for me, a bit cheeper if you order with 800 contacts but you have to waite for them to verify the info.

I am wondering this now also since w eno longer have vision insurance sad.gif

coasterqueen replied: Walmart. thumb.gif They are the cheapest IMO and pretty good. My insurance almost pays for all of my visit, glasses and contacts there.

luvmykids replied:
If you're going to use 800 contacts just ask them for a copy of your prescription when you get your exam and fax it to 800 contacts after you order. They sent mine out the same day.

I've gotten lasik since then so it's been a while but they were waaaay cheaper.

amymom replied: Sears Optical is having a special until Feb. 18th for any pair of glasses: $99.00 They had a contact special too, but I didn't pay attention to it.

Do you have a Sears Optical near you? I could get more details.

TANNER'S MOM replied: Well I use Wal mart and love them. I can order my contacts and I am always by a Wal Mart to pick them up.. I like there frame choices too. They look designer but not the cost.

Tanner goes to a pediatric.. optha.. something.. but we purchase the actually glasses at Wal Mart due to cost..and they have a ONE YEAR on all frames girl. If they break they replace them or fix them. If Ethan breaks another pair they fix or replace free of charge. A horse head butted me and broke my glasses.. I was honest and said what happened..and they replaced them.

I can't tell you how many they have fixed of Tanners.. plus we can always get them adjusted while we are there.. and not a trip across town or to the mall.

My contacts are 33.00 a box..and a friend uses the same kind..gets them from her doc..and she pays around 15 more per box.. so I am happy w. Wal Mart.

MamaJAM replied: We always use Lenscrafters.....yes - they aren't the cheapest - but we love the quality. Considering the beating our glasses take (DH, DD#1, DD#2 and I all wear glasses) -- we've never had problems with getting them repaired, adjusted, etc...and they last quite a while before needing to be replaced.

DH uses the eye doc right at our lense-crafters. I used to use that doc as well - got my contacts through them (though I don't wear contacts anymore). I take the kids to an independant eye doc who I love (we found her when DD#2 needed vision therapy) -- I might start seeing her as well when I finally get around to making an eye doc appoitment for myself.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I go through either my eye doctor ($25 for a box of six) or walmart ($23 and some change for a box if six)

Like Mel said at Walmart you can order and have them delivered to the store, or bypass ordering online and go straight to Walmart and pick them up. Although my eyes are horrible, they have my prescription on hand everyday in the store (( that was surprising)) thumb.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Thanks so much for your opinions!!!! thumb.gif

I'm going to go to WalMart. I was looking at their services online and it is SO easy to order contacts thru them. thumb.gif I also think they give you a discount if you don't have vision insurance.

C&K*s Mommie replied: oh really?? I need to get another pair of glasses anyhow, so I will have to take advantage of that discount. laugh.gif

aspenblue1 replied: I heard sams and costco are cheap.

3xsthefun replied: I bought my glasses & contacts from Wal Mart. I think they are the cheapest place here.

gr33n3y3z replied: I get my glasses and exam from my local private Eye Dr
and My contacts from 800 contacts and they call the Dr's office and get the perscription from them smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
I did this back home and ONCE since we moved here, but I didn't like the doctor. He charged WAY too much money and talked me into (more like pressured) buying the most expensive frames. dry.gif I haven't been back since. I can't afford it. laugh.gif Oh and I had to buy my contacts thru him...he wouldn't give me a prescription for them. mad.gif

TeagansMom609 replied: I found 1-800 CONTACTS to cost exactly the same amount as getting them from my Dr.'s office (LensCrafters) after shipping and handeling costs. I like Lenscrafters, they have a HUGE selection of designer glasses unlike places like Wal-Mart. I would maybe go to Wal-Mart for the exam if its really cheap but I wouldn't buy glasses from there.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: When I lived in California I used Costco. I forgot my glasses when I drove to see my sister In Dallas and found a huy at the mall and he was great...actually telling me how some of the tests were useless for me because of my age, and explaining why I was getting the prescription I was and how my eye had changed. Not sure where you are but he was in the Mall in Lewisville (??? I think that's the city) NAd it was fairly cheap.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Costco is pretty cheap.

My glasses usually cost me over 500$ not including taxes, 77$ frame included... and the last time I think onle 450 including taxes for frame and lenses
