Izabella's teeth! I'm freaking out. - HELP!!

Crystalina wrote: Background:
She turned 7 in April and has not lost one tooth. When I took Evan to the dentist last month I brought this up to the Dr. and he said 7 is not really too late to start losing them but if she has not lost any by the age of 8 he will x-ray to make sure the adult teeth are indeed there.

So the other night a commercial for Pro-Enamel toothpaste came on and she said she wanted to get it and I said that is for grown-up teeth and you shouldn't put that on your baby teeth and then she said that she already has some grown-up teeth. I said no you don't you only have baby teeth and she said, "Well then what are these?", and she pointed in her mouth. I got a flashlight and saw where she was pointing (right behind her two bottom front teeth) and sure enough she has her adult teeth growing in behind her baby teeth!!! WTH?? I've never seen anything like that before. This is not normal right? I'm going to call her dentist in about an hour but...she looks like a shark! They have not come through all the way, they have just broken the skin but her baby teeth in front are not in the least bit loose. unsure.gif I've not made a big deal about it in front of her because I don't want her to think it's odd and think there's something wrong with her teeth but I'm thinking it's odd and there's indeed something wrong with her teeth.

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley's bottom teeth came in behind her baby teeth before she actually lost the tooth. I asked about it too as I thought it was odd, but apparently that is normal and happens quite often.

Glad to hear the tooth fairy will be visiting soon. wink.gif

ZandersMama replied: I think its pretty normal, i would mention it to the dentist though

Crystalina replied:
OMG really? That is so good to hear! How old was she when it happened? Will the other teeth just come out then or do they have to be pulled? She sooo wants a tooth to fall out but they are still in there pretty solid.

Crystalina replied:
I had no clue this was normal. I'm so glad to hear that. I was so worried last night thinking she may always have two rows of teeth. ohmy.gif I will still call her dentist but thanks for that.

msoulz replied: My son had the same thing too. He finally lost his front teeth last year right about when he was turning 9 - just after school pictures. smile.gif The adult teeth were poking in and then seemed to receed back up. It took a long time for his right front tooth to finally drop in. But now it's in, just in time for this year school pictures. The dentist wasn't worried at all, just me. blush.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
Ashley's permanent tooth came almost all the way in before she lost the baby tooth. As it grew, the baby tooth became looser and looser. It was barely hanging there when Ashley went for her check-up but the dentist said that they don't like to pull baby teeth and prefer that it comes out on it's own. It eventually did come out on it's own. I was worried that the permanent would grow in weird, but it just sort of moved into place after she lost her baby tooth.

ETA -- I forgot to answer the age question. It just happened not too long ago, so she was 5.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Taylor had those too! They call them shark teeth. They will push the baby teeth out smile.gif

Danalana replied: I haven't heard of it, but I know it puts you mind at ease that it's common smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: that happened to my neice her baby teeth came out on there own and actually everything is fine now happened about the same age too

mom21kid2dogs replied: O's teeth were all like that, too. The only ones she lost without the adult teeth being already fully in were her top front teeth. Even those were partially in. Guess we'll never have those toothy grins, eh? BTW, our dentist wll not remove baby teeth in that situation. He said it is best to leave it until it occurs naturally. Go figure, huh! blink.gif

Crystalina replied: Well I talked to the dentist nurse and I feel so much better. I really thought it was like some sort of birth defect and that she may always have two rows of teeth. blush.gif Can you tell this is my first experience with teeth coming out. rolleyes.gif blush.gif She made an appointment to see her on Oct. 27th but said they may fall out before then. If they have not gotten any loser he may just pull them.

That's what one of her teeth are doing as they grow in. It's pointing inward a bit more then it should.

I feel so silly now. blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I had to have most of my baby teeth pulled. The bottom adult teeth grew in behind but then didn't move forward, and the canines were one on top of the other. But after all of that My braces weren't nearly as invasive as my friends....and cheaper biggrin.gif
