Jaundice....HELP!!
MyLuvBugs wrote: Ok. I'm trying to remain calm and in control, but my hormones are starting to get to me. Lexi's had her blood checked 4 times now, and each time the Billi-ruben level is going up and up and up. She's gaining weight and she's getting sun light, but it's just gonig up.
msoulz replied: We had the same thing and it corrected itself - with both kids. I don't recall on what day the most recent recovered, but I think it was about the 6th or 7th. Hang in there, don't worry unless the docs tell you to!
boyohboyohboy replied: Dont worry, I am sure the dr's are keeping an eye on the baby, and I think Jake was into at least a week before it corrected itself, just keep feeding, it flushes out the system, and keep up the sun light. you are doing all the right things.
if you feel better about it call the dr and express your concerns.
MyLuvBugs replied: Thanks....I'm sure I'll have a mental breakdown tomorrow at the Dr.s office. I'll keep you all posted.
ashtonsmama replied: Hang in there. What are the docs saying?
I'm sure she'll be fine hun.
MichaelsMommy replied: I had the same thing happen with my son.. it took quite a tool on my new mommy nerves too..
Keep her in the sun AS MUCH as possible. Shirt off beating down on her. Like try to position a nap there if you can.
If it gets to the point where they want to bring her in and put her back under the lights for a few days - ask about the billy blanket.. it's something you can use at home that will help you out.
Here is a pic of what it looks like (not my son) I think you can rent them for a few days and that is all it would take

Let us know what the docs say - and hang in there
~Roo'sMama~ replied: What is her biliruben level? When Andrew was jaundiced in the hospital the nurse told me that it's not even anything to really worry about until it's like 21. Andrew's was like 11 or 12, and they put him in the light bed, but they let him go and weren't concerned even though it was going up when we left the hospital. It got worse at home before it went away too. I'm sure she's ok.
coasterqueen replied: Both of my girls had jaundice. Kylie had it bad enough that we were kept until her levels started going up, but I think that's because our PED knew we were 1st time parents and worried. Megan was actually more jaundiced than her sister but we were more confident this time around and so the doc knew we could handle it and I just kept nursing her as much as she wanted and we put her in the sunlight and eventually she was just fine.
Here's a pic of how jaundice Megan was.....she should be just as light as her sister, but she's not.
mckayleesmom replied: Russell was jaundice pretty good too.....but was able to bring him home....I parked his bassinett under a window and let the sun shine on him while he slept.....It was winter...so it wasn't scorching of course.....but that might help too.
holley79 replied: I'm sorry about that. I have no clue what to say but I'm sure it will get better.
A&A'smommy replied: I'm sure she is fine honey!!!
MyLuvBugs replied: Well, her levels are finally going down....
When we left the hospital her level was 11.4 and the next day it was 15.4, so we got a little freaked by that....However, it's only gone down to 15.2. We're going back in tomorrow for yet another heel prick and billirubin level. My poor baby. hopefully it will be down even more.
Thanks for all the advice and stuff. I really have had NO experience with jaundice and it was a little freaky there for awhile. I really appreciate you all so much....
MichaelsMommy replied: Great news!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm glad it's going down. I'm pretty sure 15.2 is still not bad. Hopefully now it will clear up!
