Jennifers Polls
PrairieMom wrote: I was really surprised to see that so many people don't like the anonymous polls. i have been in lurk mode for a while, but answer the polls daily. Some I find a little more interesting than others, but I think they are a fun part of our message board. maybe its because it was originally my idea. I say keep it up!
Crystalina replied: Well, let me tell you why I voted the way I did. I voted the last choice but not to be mean. I don't mind the polls but sometimes I think they should be open. Now if it may be controversial or cause a debate I'm all for closing it off to comments but so many polls that are closed like that is kind of useless IMO. Sometimes I wish it were open so we could post our thoughts. kwim? That is really the only reason I voted the way I did. The polls themselves don't bother me. Heck, if people want to put nothing but polls up go for it. I guess if they were open though they wouldn't be considered anonymouse.
PrairieMom replied: True that. Did you ever go back to get a pic of the armadillo?
C&K*s Mommie replied: As for opening up the polls, posting a second spin off topic of it can be a good thing. Like the original anonymous daily poll by Tara on "as a parent, do you feel like a failure?". I gained alot of insight into others who felt the same way that I did, and realized (by a spin off post) that I was not so alone in my thinking.
Crystalina replied: Nope. DH said he was not going to pull off the side of the road so I could take pictures of roadkill. He must have thought that would look weird or something.

Crystalina replied: I've wanted to open threads after reading an anonymouse poll but I figured too many would look like I was stirring the pot. Since it's anonymouse I assumed it should kind of stop there.
C&K*s Mommie replied: I understand. I have always been curious about anyone who votes in a opposite way as I did, but being the nosey-rosy that I am I have to hold myself back from asking the nosy questions sometimes.
PrairieMom replied: i Like that they are anonymous because I feel like in a regular poll I am expected to give an explanation as to why I voted, even tho you totally aren't required to do that, so I guess in some respects all polls are anonymous I figure If there is something I felt driven to add about the polls A new thread can be started, ( like this one)
coasterqueen replied: I like the idea of the polls being anonymous (closed) so people can be truly honest. I think a lot of times people aren't, and from looking at some of Jennifer's polls (hi Jennifer, I feel like I'm talking behind your back here ) people ARE being honest. I have learned a lot from the polls, some didn't interest me as much as others, but that's fine. We all find that true with a lot of threads, right? I even found that I wasn't alone in some of my answers, and even though they were anonymous and I might not of known who answered along with me, I felt a sense of relief. Sometimes we wonder if we are alone out here with how we think, react, feel, whatever the case may be and for me the polls have helped sometimes in not feeling that way. I also like the fact that the polls make me think and go above and beyond the daily 'small talk'. I need challenged daily, and when I'm not being challenged at work, the polls can do it for me too. I know that sounds extremely corny.
Obviously someone likes to see the poll answers or Jennifer's polls wouldn't get so many hits
lisar replied: I didnt get to see the video though I wanted to see it. I can take a picture of a dead roadkill armadillo anytime you want one. They are all over here in Jax. People hit them all the time around here. It takes a few hours for them to get picked up by AC&C. Sorrry not on topic at all.
kimberley replied: i like the polls because it is an easy fun way to participate when typing is impossible with baby in arms all the time. i agree that people are more honest when they are closed but enjoy reading the spinoff threads too.
coasterqueen replied: I meant to add and Kimberley made me think about this, that I agree - I do enjoy reading the spin-off threads and I think that's how they should be. If people want to discuss the polls, just have it in another thread.
C&K*s Mommie replied: here is my last post in this thread. I have no opinion either way on it Jennifer whether they go or stay. Some are interesting, and make you think. Some I truly do not have an opinion on, and yet others it may take some time to think about it.
Crystalina replied: I'm really not understanding why they are closed though since voting in a polled thread does not show the members who voted. It's just a minor detail but for the ones that are saying just open another thread I don't see the big deal in using the original thread. The voting is still anonymouse.
A&A'smommy replied: well at first there were SOOO many polls on the board that it was hard to keep up with anything else.. it wasn't just the anonymous polls it was a little bit of everything so it got on my nerves... now that we just have the anonymous polls and that occasional baby name poll (and a few in between) it doesn't bother me.. I do like the anonymous ones because I feel I can be honest and not have to explain myself.. of if there is a spin off one I have time to explain myself better I'm not all that great with words so anyway.. that is just me!!
Crystalina replied: I just went back and reread the last option which I voted and it says, "no, i hate them and wish you'd stop doing them already". I would not have said it quite like that. I don't hate the polls (they never did anything to me ) but it was the only "no" answer. Just for the record.
redplaydoh replied: I like the polls. Many of them have made me look inside myself to find the answer. Many have made me feel like, phew... I'm NOT the only one... I just like them and sometimes I haven't been in the mood for them so I don't even open them. I like things that make me think, see other opinions, and go beyond my daily conversations with toddlers.
