Johnny's in the hospital

Johnny was admitted Saturday after dropping doen to 7 lbs 15 oz. The first 24 hours or so the only thing they did was watch him. feed him and track how often he was throwing up and how much. Yesterday (I think???) they did the Upper GI with small bowel follow through. The results of that came back today and it showed reflux but no other obstructions or anything. They also had to do an u/s on his head because it is proportionally larger than the rest of his body. they were checking for tumors or extra fluid...that too came back clean. Today he had another u/s this time on his abdomen, again came back clean. The ph probe is now in place and will be pulled tomorrow morning. And a scope is getting scheduled for sometime tomorrow to check out his stomach and esophagus. If they find what they are expecting to find tomorrow it will give the official diagnosis of "severe reflux" and they will be doing surgery to "fix" it. He Dr. said at this level it's not really worth trying to mess with any more meds and letting him get any worse. The surgery is called a Nissen fundoplication or wrap. they take the top of the stomach and wrap it around the esophagus so that when the stomach contracts it contracts around the esophagus so doesn't allow anything to come back up. It looks like everything should be done within the week. It only took 3.5 months of me telling anyone that would listen that I think he has reflux.
oh and my neck is feeling okay. The nurses took over last night so I could take my pain pills and get some sleep. It's amazing how much better my head and neck feels after getting a few hours of sleep.

siblingtooolivia replied: I hope all goes well if he has to have surgery...poor little guy. It took me almost three months to have my daughter diagnosed with refulx when she was an infant too. She didn't suffer major weight issues, gained weight but very slowly but suffered terribly from the acid part of acid reflux....she never ate more than 3 oz at a time until about 14 weeks and didn't sleep well, etc.....once they put her on zantac, that very day she ate more and slept through the nite....they kept telling me it was colic....fortunately my nephew who is three months older had terrible reflux too so I knew the signs and symptoms....it is frustrating....
Hang in there Johnny!!!
KingMom replied: I'm sure glad someone finally listened, sounds like his reflux must be pretty severe. Good luck wih the surgery, do you know yet what the surgery entails??
Lauren has reflux but she is still gaining weight and has done a lot better since I cut the dairy from my diet.
I wish you all the luck and will be thinking of you throughout the week.
