Jury Duty

MommyToAshley wrote: I know a lot of people like to get out of jury duty, and I didn't want to serve next week because I have a hectic week coming up. But, any other time, I would actually like to be part of the process and see our judicial system in progress.

What are your thoughts and have you served jury duty before?

Kaitlin'smom replied: nutrual, I would not mind serving on one as long as I dont have a hectic week or plans to travel.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Never have served. Once I got out of it, since we moved out of that town, and my due date with Kel, coincided around the time of the jury selection. The next time I got picked I got out of it, only after going there & talking to some other women who encouraged me to step forward, because I was BF. I did not know that would be a viable excuse, otherwise I never would have gone downtown in the first place.

I, like you, would be interested in the judicial process first hand. Even if the process of selection was longer than the actual trial, I would still be interested.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I voted neutral, because I was actually called back in November and didn't really want to go, but at the same time, I found it really interesting and it was sorta nice having a day to myself (in a way). I didn't get selected but it was sorta neat to go downtown and mingle with people in suits...it's been awhile! The worst part is just waiting to see if you'll be selected. Bring a good book!

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I used to think it was really neat to get the form in the mail. I have never gotten picked but I have gone to serve 2 or 3 times. Now that I have Taylor at home I would not be happy about it at all. Most jury summons are for county courts here (people trying their luck the the officer won't show in a traffic ticket case) Sometimes it irritates me! LOL! rolleyes.gif The state and federal court cases are some I would not want to hear-they are the more violent crimes. My dad served on one of those juries when I was in high school and had to see all kinds of terrible pictures sad.gif And then got sequestered for diliberations. That would not be something I would want to do right now! blush.gif

luvbug00 replied: I got out of it !!!!school!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm actually kind of hoping I'll get called in again. The one time I did get called in I really didn't want to be there, but the guy ended up pleading guilty before the trial even started so we all got to go home. I was relieved, but now after going half way I'd really like to see what it's like to sit on a jury - I think it would be pretty interesting.

gr33n3y3z replied: I always get out of it now bc
With C.A.R.A. I sat on many cases as a learning tool and I know the judges and one of the judges personally bc its my daughters friends father and some lawyers
But before cara I just told them I cant bc I have to be available for my children bc my husband works 2 full time jobs and that always worked also.

But one day I would love to serve

jcc64 replied: I've been summoned a few times. Got deferred once b/c I was bf a very young Corey at the time, then got called back last year. Here in NY, you call in the night before you're scheduled to report, every day for a week, and my # magically never came up. I have no real interest in serving, mainly b/c I'm afraid it would be some horrifically boring case involving financial stuff that I have no aptitude for understanding. Very rarely do you sit on a bona fide CSI, tv crime drama type of case, in which case I would be mildly interested. But, tbh, the whole lawyer/court scene, with the rich gaining advantages with high powered attornies and consultants, and the poor getting dismal representation through public defenders, would probably infuriate me.

aspenblue1 replied: I was called once but the defense attorney didnt want me on the jury

Mom2BNTN replied: I have never served on jury duty before, but I think if given the chance I would love to see how our judicial system works.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I've gotten out of it b/c I"m a SAHM. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to serve one day. If anything, it will give me a break from my regular job. laugh.gif Rae mentioned reading...I'M IN!!! tongue.gif

DVFlyer replied: I did it once for the experience but won't do it again, if I can avoid it. It gives you an intimate look at the judicial system... and it wasn't pretty to me.

MamaJAM replied: I got called for jury duty shortly after turning 18 and did have to report...even got picked for a jury and went through the whole trial, etc. I didn't enjoy it (I was suffering from major morning (aka all-day) sickness at the time) - but it's part of being an American - so I did what I had to.

Right now - it would be HORRIBLY inconvienient to have to serve. Thankfully - since I'm a SAHM with children under age 7 - I just need to send a note saying I can't go and I'm exempt (have gotten 2 letters since having kids -- did not have to report either time).

When the kids no longer count as an 'excuse' - I'm sure I'll be called and have to report. It's really no big deal.

3xsthefun replied: I have never even been called to go before. So I'm not sure really how I'd feel about it. In away I think it would be neat.

ashtonsmama replied: I'm ok with it, I just never get called in! I love to watch the court system and such, I'm really into all that, but the waiting all day long?!? No thank you!

CantWait replied: Yes I would be eager to serve. I never have.
The only time I wouldn't want to is if I was going to be losing money at work and it was our only income.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I would love to go as long as I wasn't being sequestered.

NicoleMomOf4 replied: Dh was on Jury Duty 3 weeks ago he said he learned alot and it was only one day about 6 hours. smile.gif

Nina J replied: I've never been called, but I'd like to go.

redchief replied: I voted neutral, but only because I don't have to serve petit jury duty. The one time I was called to federal grand jury I had to get out of it because my family was living at Lisa's parent's house and I was building ours. I think under different circumstances I would have been glad to sit on the jury, though I'm almost certain I would have been dismissed because of my public safety background.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I put that I am neutral. However, since Aaron is an attorney, I would probably be excluded from most jury pools very soon after they heard that.
