Just a pic I want to share - One of our trucks and a flag
redchief wrote: I've thought several times about posting this. It's one of my favorite pictures. It is our snorkel fire truck as a flag stand during our Army Nat. Guard Reserve open house. The truck is my favorite in our inventory, and coupled with the flag at a military base defines me well.
Bee_Kay replied: I love it!!
TFS
C&K*s Mommie replied: why is that?
I love it too, Ed!
luvmykids replied: Truly great pic!
redchief replied: I'm just not a real big initial poster (y'all may have noticed that ). Perhaps... a little tiny bit, I feared no one else would care. I'm not very good at insecurity (y'all may have noticed that too ).
Also, this picture has emotional ties to me personally, as I am friends with many of the people in this guard unit. One of them is a long time firefighter in my department, another is a young man I coached at both soccer and lacrosse, others are in fire departments close to me. This unit has done two tours in Iraq, and I swell with pride every time I talk about the 253rd Reserve Transportation Company. They are always attached to the 101st Airborne Division. They are the pride of our county. I don't know what else to say... they are brothers and sisters and I'm proud to say they are my friends.

redchief replied: You are not helping... I am not often moved to tears by this board... but I am now.
Thank you Nicole.
PS... my teenaged daughter is looking at me like I'm nuts... which perhaps I am a little.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Sorry. If it is any consolation, neither am I moved to tears very often, but this really touched a sensitive part of my heart to hear you talk so proudly of them , similiar how you talk so proudly of your children and of Lisa.
redchief replied: No apologies necessary. Like I said, this picture is a defining graphic of myself. I'm not really great at touching my emotional side. I have a pretty good grasp of my intellectual side, but I'm pretty suppressive emotionally. Again, thank you for your kind words.
Bee_Kay replied: I've always heard the term "brothers" and "sister" when firefighters would refer to each other. Much to my embarrassment, I admit I never knew why
That is, until 911 happened and we, around the country, watched the aftermath that was broadcasted on so many different documentary type shows. That is when I learned of the "brotherhood" among firefighters.
I was amazed, I never knew that firefighters were that close and viewed each other as family.
So now, when I see pictures like this Ed... I am truly moved... not only by the photos..... but by the words in which you choose to describe your fellow firefighters.
Your post (and reply) is filled with love and pride Ed. Again, TFS!!
C&K*s Mommie replied: Last post on this ... but that above I think many of us here on the boards can attest to!
mammag replied: TFS that Ed! The picture alone is extremely touching, when you give the story behind it.....well, who wouldn't have at least one tear in their eye? Amazing, amazing men!
Our Lil' Family replied: Wonderful picture Ed!!
mom21kid2dogs replied: Very cool pic. That it one ominious looking sky!
jcc64 replied:
Rightfully so, Ed. I wish more people appreciated their selflessness in a meaningful way.
That pic speaks to everything that's right about this country. Thanks for sharing, and for occasionally showing us your soft underbelly!
MyLuvBugs replied: AWWWWW, Ed!! Don't ever be afraid to post anything on here. Especially if it means that much to you.
It's a great pic!! and I totally understand the sentimentality of the shot.
redchief replied: The overcast sky is part of the overall emotion that pic brings... It rained that day. The open house was a huge success anyway with everyone moving into the armory warehouse and activities commencing in there. There were over a thousand people in there, hanging out the doors, no A/C, but no one left.
holley79 replied: Great picture Ed, TFS. I love it.
redchief replied: Thank you Jeanne... and you leave my soft underbelly alone.
redchief replied: 'Tis not out of fear that I don't start many topics... 'Tis out of lack of original ideas that I don't post many topics. When there's something I have an opinion on, I'm pretty good at getting my point across.
aspenblue1 replied: TFS! Great picture.
CantWait replied: Thanks for sharing Ed. It's a beautiful and absoltely priceless picture
CantWait replied: On another note, I can't believe how HUGE that thing is.
moped replied: Very cool pic Ed!!!!!!!!!!
redchief replied: If memory serves, and my memory tends to be a little off on such things, but I believe that was a 20' x 38' American Flag. The snorkel is an 85' device and the upper boom is 45' long. If anyone is really good at scaling and math, you can figure out the size for sure. I'm not so inclined.
coasterqueen replied: Cool truck! TFS.
I need one of those trucks to reach some of my trees in the timber.
redchief replied: I'd lend it to you but you're a little bit out of our mutual aid range. Sorry!
Halo42101 replied: Great pic., Ed. Tfs. & May God bless you & your Fire Department.
