and then we have this one that I would not consider average..I mean...it's pretty tiny looking! it will run you $367,900
and then this one, I would say is pretty middle of the road..no brick, but average size 3k sq ft and it will cost you $569,500
or you could go a little high up and have this one that isn't even new, it was built 20 yrs ago and they would like 2 million for it:

mckayleesmom replied: Well....first I want to point out that honestly..I have not seen a bad neighborhood here in Newbern yet...so even though the houses might not be the greatest...the community so far is awesome. Low crime rate and good schools. Added bonus is that Nicholas Sparks the author owns a house here somewhere.
This is the cheapest I found so far that isn't a mobile home....but even those don't look bad....more like modular homes

Boys r us replied: Cary, basements are ot counted in the sq footage of a house unless it is finished. We live in Va and it's unheard of for a house not to have a basement, even our patio homes have them here.

Yep - they all have basements for the most part - there are a few in some areas that don't - like Nicole said the basement isn't counted as Sq footage so when you finish them its like a bonus!! It can be counted if its a walk out basement though....

I think(I am pretty sure) my bosses daughter is looking for a house in New Bern. Is that by the military base? Her hubby is being stationed there next month. They are leaving on the 14th to go house hunting. I like the 500 thousand range one on the outside but the inside seems kinda bland to me. I hate that fireplace.
luvmykids replied: Where I live it totally depends on what's more important, house or acreage. You can spend $500K and get an awesome house on a 1/2 acre, or a decent house on 20 acres. Everything is relative to how much land you get and just a mile in one direction or another, or being on one side of the freeway or the other, can make a HUGE price difference. Keep in mind though I live in a small town, these are listings just from our town but there are others within 10 minutes where the price ranges are a little different.
But here's what I found, not basing it on neighborhoods, schools, etc....plain and simple the cheapest in town:
