Just frustrated
coasterqueen wrote: Well, Megan went fever free all day today until about 4 pm, when her rash came back and she got a low-grade fever again. The doctors office called back and said her liver enzymes are back to normal, which is a great thing! The doctor wants us to stick with the appointment on Friday to have a cat scan done of her head/sinuses. He really didn't say why we need to have this done on her....which worried me. He gave me some excuse about the ENT would want it done. And the doctor said today to stick with our infectious disease doc appointment next week because they need to rule out this is not going to occur again. All this makes me go "huh?" because of the fact they thought this was a virus, but couldn't find any positive results on any virus test. With her "monthly" fevers she has almost monthly, my mind is going in all different directions that maybe this is linked in some way. Of course I did a lot of online research which made me feel even worse. I'm just confused. Every day the fever would be less during the day (and so would the rash) but every night like clockwork around 4-5 pm, the fever went up and the rash comes out in full force. It's obviously a good sign that today, the 8th day, the fever went away all day, but then why is it coming back at night? I guess it will be a better sign if tomorrow it's still gone during the day, ya know. This is just so frustrating. Maybe it's a mother thing that we take our mind to places we wished we wouldn't. I'm trying to be happy that the labs came back great today. But I'm nervous about the cat scan (which I really think will come back normal - I don't think she's been having recurring sinus infections without us knowing) but I hate waiting until next Wednesday for an infectious disease doctor to HOPEFULLY reassure us this is not something more serious. It's just weird because when we were in the doc office he said we didn't need to see him if labs came back good and now he said he wants us to go to make sure this doesn't recur. Maybe he's just covering his butt. I dunno. The other weird thing is she's been sleeping ALL DAY long. The past week she's slept a lot, but not for long periods of time. Maybe she's just catching up. I dunno. We are sending her to school tomorrow, but even Ryan (who has been more positive than me through all of this) isn't confident she'll make it a whole day.
Ahhhh, I'm just rambling. I just didn't want to put this on facebook and look like a dramatic crazed mom.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Wow! Lots to take in. Poor thing certainly doesn't sound like she's feeling up to par by any means. I certainly can see where you would be both frustrated and confused. Great that the liver enzymes are back to normal. Fever and rash thing sounds as though whatever she has is winding down but not completely kicked yet? The waiting 'til Wednesday does sound like torture BTW, you sound like a loving, concerned mom . . . .not the crazed dramatic one
amymom replied: Awww Karen, Prayers continue. I can't say I'd be controlled if I was in your shoes. You are doing great! Take care of you too!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm sorry Karen! I hope it's just not completely worked out of her system and the fever goes away again tomorrow. I'm sorry you have to go back and see the Dr again, but I suppose it's better to cover all your bases. Poor thing... I hope she has a good day at school tomorrow!
jcc64 replied: I'd be doing the exact same thing, Karen, It's a normal mom thing to do. I think the drs. are just being thorough and covering their own behinds, and really, it's good to throw all the tests at the situation and have as much info as they can. My advice to you is to stay off the internet until you have all the facts, b/c that will just make you crazy. Don't operate on "what ifs", just go off the blood work and the info that IS definitive. Otherwise, you'll wind up with all sorts of paranoid thoughts. Big hugs. Things are going in the right direction. Every day is better than the last. Hang your hat on that.
coasterqueen replied: Well she started complaining of her leg hurting last night and screamed every time she walked. We thought maybe she was faking it because we told her she was going back to school today. This morning when she got out of bed she started screaming and after looking more the groin area on one of her legs is swollen Calling the doc when they open at 8 am.
boyohboyohboy replied: I know just how you feel, as a mom of kids who were so sick when they were small. I think you should attack this just like you did when Megan started with her SID issues, her allergies, her therapies. It's scary when our kids are sick, but you have strength and know how to focus and get all the info you need to get Megan the care she needs. All these questions you have are great ones, maybe write them all down and make the dr's answer them when you go. If you don't get a good answer, ask him to direct you to who can answer them. The infectious disease dr will most likely have more info then the ped does.
I would also ask for copies of her blood work, of the tests that she had done. It helps later on to have these to take to other dr's.
I hope Megan gets better fast and you have answers soon.
msoulz replied: I am so sorry Karen. I hope they provide answers soon.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Uff da. What did the doctor say?
coasterqueen replied: They want her in at 10:45 this morning to see what's going on.
MommyToAshley replied: Oh goodness, Karen, I am sorry she is going through this (and you too). Her leg may just be a swollen lymph node?, which would make sense if she is fighting an infection of some sort. I know it is scary, but try not to assume the worst. Prayers continued, please let us know what the doc says. I'll be thinking of you today (((hugs)))
MommyToAshley replied: I just realized that you probably already had the appointment... any news? What'd the doc say?
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I hope the appointment went well. KUP!
coasterqueen replied: Ryan had to take her as I have a board meeting/dinner here at work that I can't get out of since I've been gone so much. I wish I could have been there. Doc basically said "after affect" of the infection (so he thinks) and says hopefully the infectious disease doc will have more answers. Next Wednesday of course. So of course she can only walk and isn't in pain as long as she's on a pain reliever and that only lasts 6 hours so can't send her to school.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Oh man, how frustrating! I'm sorry the dr didn't have a better answer for you!
MommyToAshley replied: I can only imagine how frustrated you are! Poor girl. Hopefully tonight you have an uneventful night. ((hugs))
my2monkeyboys replied: Wow Karen - so much for you both to be going through. She is still in my prayers. Try to relax and have faith that God has His hand on her... I can only imagine how frustrating and worrisome it is, though. (((Great Big Hugs))) to all of you!!!
boyohboyohboy replied: Karen, still praying for Megan. Are there more dr's in the practice with the one you have been seeing? Would they give you a second opinion?
kimberley replied: wish i had a fast forward button to next wednesday. prayers and strength to you both. hang in there.
youngmomofone replied: I'm so sorry that your little girl is going through so much. I hope that she is able to get better soon so you can put this time behind you.
jcc64 replied: Thinking of you guys all the time and hoping everything stays as it should. Hope you get more info on Wed.
Mommy2Isabella replied: Karen, I am so sorry you guys are going through all of this. I can imagine how frustrating this all is for many reasons. I hope you guys get some answers ASAP!! I hate the run around!
Keeping you guys in our prayers!
