Just got back from the ER
Maddie&EthansMom wrote: We were all in the living room tonight...I had just started dinner and sat down on the couch for a minute to find cartoons for the kids. Maddie was helping me fold towels that I just took out of the dryer. Ethan kept trying to grab the towels that she was folding and she grabbed them and ran with them to keep him from unfolding them. He ran after her, tripped and hit the PADDED ottoman!!! The way it sounded when he hit...I KNEW something wasn't right. I jumped up and ran over to him. Blood was pouring from his eye and he was screaming and grabbing at it. I FREAKED! Maddie was in shock. I looked at her and said "He's okay...he'll be fine." She LOST it and ran off. Poor girl. I just knew immediately that we were going to the ER. So, I scooped him up and ran into the kitchen so I could see it better. Sure enough....a deep gash right at the edge of his eyebrow...his right eyebrow. He was so traumatized. I grab a towel, my phone and yell for Maddie to get into the car. I put him in his seat...See Sees (blankie) is in the car (thank GOD I didn't have to search for that!) I start to get in and there's NO MADDIE! I had to go in and search for HER. She was in the house bawling
We're in the car 5 minutes and she has him laughing. She's such a good sister. We get there and they take us back immediately. It's a pediatric acute care place..much better than the ER. It's all kid stuff. They glued it instead of stitches. They didn't even offer me a choice, but I already knew I wanted the glue. The worst part of the night was having to hold him down. He was NOT happy. I don't blame him. As soon as we got to the checkout counter he was fine. They had "Pon Baw ticka ticka tickas" (translation: Spongebob Stickers ) Both kids fell asleep on the way home. As soon as we got into the house Ethan let out this big sigh. I said "I know what you mean, buddy."
He's completely fine now. The wound isn't bad at all. It's deep, but it's not real long. I guess that tissue around the eye is real thin and tears easily. Maddie informed me just a couple of minutes ago that he hit the leg of the ottoman. I guess that makes more sense. (she was on that side of it and saw it more closely)
I took pics with my camera phone...the first 2 are small b/c I forgot to adjust the resolution
This is on the way...see his little towel with blood on it? You can't see his eye in this one, but look at that smile.

And I'm not holding his chin very tight it looks that way b/c he kept wiggling.

Watching cartoons with sissy...waiting on the doctor (no sandles I just put him in the car)

I forgot to add that Maddie got to help the doctor clean it up. She enjoyed that...he also told her that kids aren't supposed to run in the house.
1lilpeanut2love replied: Awwh poor baby! I am so glad that he is okay.
kimberley replied: omg scary! glad he is okay and Maddie too. poor girl. big hugs to all three of you
NEWMOM05 replied: Aww! Porr little guy. It always looks so much worse than it is. I am glad he is better now. That glue stuff is amazing. I hate stitches.
MommyToAshley replied: Aweee, poor kiddos. Glad it just needed a little glue and wasn't more serious. You did good Mom... I don't do well in that kind of situation and would have been too freaked out to think rationally.
Poor Maddie... she must have been really scared. Glad she was able to help patch Ethan up. That probably made both of them feel better.
kayla's mama replied: OMG how scarey Glad Ethan is ok and Maddie too.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh Aimee...poor little Ethan! I'm almost in tears reading this. Poor baby! I'm so glad it wasn't something worse, but I'm sure it was scary as ever for you guys! BTW, he's so cute in those pics...thanks for the update. And glad he's feeling better!
Hope you get some mommy time tonight to relax from all of this!
MM'sMama replied: Awe poor sweet peas. What a brave little guy. Sorry you had a ruff evening but so glad everyones alright.
Celestrina replied: I'll never forget the first time Ben cut his lip bumping into the coffee table. It wasn't really anything, but you know how the blood mixes with spit and it looks like it is bleeding like crazy but it isn't. I nearly passed out. How you were able to drive I'll never know.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: It's amazing how this alter ego takes over in situations like this. I didn't have a choice. I had 2 little kids who were freaking out and a husband who works an hour from home. I had to hold it together for my babies. Trust me, I was freaking inside. By the time it was over, I was fine. Of course Scotty calls me and says "How are YOU?" I said "Oh, I'm fine" He replied "Yeah, you are right now." He thinks I'll lose it later. And I just might...you never know.
Celestrina replied: Well, he'll have fun showing off his black eye!
Bee_Kay replied: WOW I'm glad he is ok!!
luvmykids replied: Oh poor little guy and poor Maddie too! And poor you! Glad it wasn't too bad, we have one of those pediatric places too, they are so wonderful to the kids. Glad you didn't have to sit in the ER all night!

A&A'smommy replied: He is such a little man so cute . poor thing I'm glad it wasn't real bad though!!! AND Maddie OMG what a good big sister WTG Maddie!!!
CAMSMOM1 replied:
When I was reading your post, it instantly reminded me of Cameron's head injury on the fireplace. I can totally relate to the sound of the hit on the head, the shock, the panic, getting towels for the blood, trying to stay calm, even down to the "stickers" part. (Cam was so happy he got a sticker too.) You did a great job handling it. I know how hard it is to hold it all together, and keeping both of the kids calm. As a Mom, you have to put your emotions aside, and keep calm for the kids. No matter how hard the situation. And you did wonderfully.
I think it's harder for the parents to go through it then the child. Just because we worry so much, and a head wound bleeds sooooo much. It took me all night to finally calm down from all the nerves and adreline from it all. So I hope you can get some rest tonight. I'm so glad he is doing ok, his poor eye in the picture. I learned how resilant kids are. And thank goodness for guardian angels.
Also, it's really great they put the glue in. I wish they could've done that for Cam. Staples were no fun. And this way you won't have to go in and get them removed.
Give him big hugs for me. And a bigger hug to you sweetie.
Brias3 replied: Oh, poor Ethan! (And Maddie and you too!) Glad he is feeling better and also glad you were able to go to the pediatric place- sounds a lot more kid-friendly than our Sat. E.R. trip!
Hope you all are doing much better now
amymom replied: Oh Gosh! I am glad everything got taken care of quickly. Great job taking care of both kids.
jem0622 replied: Poor boy! Poor sissy! Poor Mommy! Glad it wasn't too serious and that it missed his eyeball! These little daredevils we have will turn us all grey!
amynicole21 replied: Poor baby! I'm glad he's ok though
b&bsmom replied: You guys had a busy night. Glad everyone is ok. I have been lucky so far ( knock on wood ) We have not had any of those kind of er runs yet. Glad everyone is doing well. Take it easy today!!
Mom2BNTN replied: I'm glad to hear that Ethan is OK! I bet they won't be runnning in the house again anytime soon.
JP&KJMOM replied: Bless their hearts. Glad you held it together. Not sure I would have been so calm.
booey2 replied: Wow, what a night. Sorry Ethan got such a boo boo, glad Maddie was able to help calm him down, she sounds like Matthew when Thomas gets hurts. Hugs to you mom, I can totally relate to the alter ego taking over, mine has come out on many occassions as you can imagine with two boys.
to you all.
Terri
jcc64 replied: So sorry you had to go through all of that- those sorts of things really put a few more gray hairs in your head, don't they? Glad it wasn't more serious. We've been through those very-close-to-the-eye injuries here. Noah even got stitches in the exact same spot TWICE!
coasterqueen replied: Yikes! Poor guy.
