Just got discharged from the hospital - baby Jake had emergency surgery

indywndy_04 wrote: Hey all - sorry haven't been around much, Jake had surgery on Wednesday morning. He had been throwing up bottles left and right for 2 days and on the 3rd day I took him to the peds doctor. She sent me downtown Atlanta to get a U/S done to see if he had Pyloric Synosis, which is where his stomach meets his intestines, there is a thing called the Pylorus, it was enlarged and blocking passage of his food to his intestines. They had to go in by laproscopy and open it up. Thankfully everthing went perfect....and now he is able to keep his bottles down. He is very sore, they said it feels like having a c-section, but he is doing well. We just got home. My DH and I are exhausted, have not slept literally since the weekend because of all of his throwing up and then him having to have surgery so needless to say, now that I am home...little Jake and I are going upstairs in my own bed (not the dumb hospital couch) and taking a much needed long nap.



I will send some pics of him in the NICU.

indywndy_04 replied: Who would ever think their 4 week old baby would have to have emergency surgery. He is doing better now that we are at home, he is sleeping well and I am keeping him on Tylenol/Motrin so he stays comfortable. Me and my DH shed many tears and did a lot of praying. The really sad part was, they wouldn't let him eat before surgery so he had gone 25 hours without food. They put him on an IV to keep him hydrated, but he still had the hunger pains, so we had to hold him off all night until the OR had an opening for him. It sounds rough, but they did the best they could, it was at a Childrens Hospital and they had some severe traumas that had to be handled ahead of ours. One 13 year old boy had gotten shot in the face and had to get rushed to the OR. We were on the NICU Cardiac floor and there were some poor newborns that needed heart surgery. One baby had just been born and got life lighted over, his mother had a c-section and had to stay behind. The poor dad was in pure panic. So sad!
