Just have to say how proud I am of my hubby!
~Roo'sMama~ wrote: We found out Wednesday that Scott passed the MTLE (Minnesota Teacher's Licensure Exam)! He took it in March, and it takes a month for them to get the results out. He's done student teaching, and he graduates on May 7th. He's graduating summa cum laude - his gpa was 3.97 I think, but on one of the things I saw it listed it as 4.0. I'm so proud of him! I know this has been hard for him - all the staying up all night doing homework and trying to spend time with the kids on top of everything-something he's done an awesome job of doing by the way- has been exhausting.
Now to top it off, he is jumping right from student teaching into a long term sub position at the school he's student teaching at. They actually asked him to take over this classroom halfway through his student teaching... he was doing really well, and they needed a sub for the rest of the year (the other teacher was on administrative leave) and they couldn't get a sub that was an english teacher. So he left the classroom his mentor teacher is in, and for the last few weeks he's been teaching this other class, and they've had a sub in the room with him reading a book because Scott wasn't licensed and couldn't be in the room by himself. But as soon as he passed the MTLE, the school applied for a bridge license for him and he's going to start getting paid next monday. He'll teach until the end of the school year, which at this school is May 20th. Getting a regular license is just a matter of paperwork now, but it takes awhile I guess so that's why he's got the bridge license for now.
I'm sorry this got so long, but I am just so proud of him, and so excited that this incredibly long season in our lives is finally almost done, and we'll be going home soon! Of course we have a LOT of packing and sorting to do after almost 3 years of living with my parents, and that won't be so much fun. But I don't care because WE'RE GOING HOME SOON!!!
MommyToAshley replied: That is AWESOME!!!! All of his hard work (and your hard work) is going to start paying off now. It's great that he bridged right into a long term sub job! I am happy for you all!!!
luvbug00 replied:
THATS GREAT!!!! WTG! SO HAPPY FOR ALL OF YOU!
mom21kid2dogs replied: You should all be proud of what you've accomplished! Sounds like the result was worth the sacrafices! I can't imagine going back to school as an adult with a family! Eeks!! Yeah you guys! So GREAT!!!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Thanks guys! Yes it has been hard - Scott's advice to everyone we know that's graduating high school now is "don't wait until after you have kids to go to college". It's taken a lot longer than we thought it would... most of his credits from the less than 2 years of college he had before we were married didn't even transfer. But yes it was worth it! He was miserable at his job before he went back to school, and he is loving teaching! I know he's going to be an amazing teacher and all the crap we had to deal with the last 2 1/2 years is worth it for him to have a job that he loves.
stella6979 replied: Yes! This! Congrats to you your whole family!!!
boyohboyohboy replied: Congratulations to your whole family, and you too. You know you are to be congratulated for your part in this life changing event too. How exciting!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Sara that is GREAT!!!!
I didn't realize 3 years has already passed!! Wow!!!
Our Lil' Family replied: Congrats to him....and you as well!! I know first hand how hard it is to have a hubby in school after kids come around! It's soooooo hard, but soooooooooo worth it! I know you are excited to get to go home!!!!! I'm just so happy for you both!
youngmomofone replied: Congrats to ALL of you! I bet you cant wait to move home!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Lol Aimee, it seems like much longer to me! Especially when I think about how much older my kids are now than we were when we moved in with my parents and Scott started school - Allie was just a baby, and now she's older than Andrew was then... he was practically still a baby then! They don't even remember living anywhere but here. The next few months are going to be interesting... Scott and I are so excited about the fact that we'll be back in our own house, we keep forgetting that it might be kind of hard on the kids to move away from Grandma and Grandpa, and their cousins. Andrew's told us a few times that he wants to keep living with Grandma forever.
Naomi, I didn't know you've been in the same boat. It's hard isn't it! Is your husband still in school then or is he done now? You've probably mentioned this on the board before but I'm the queen of memory loss!
CantWait replied: I know how trying this has been for you guys. How incredibly awesome.
Congrats to your husband.
Our Lil' Family replied: Yep, he was in PA school from Jan. 2006 to May of 2008. Thomas wasn't even a year when he started. The first year was the hardest, once we adjusted, and he started clinicals, it was easier. Sooooooooooooooooo worth it though. Not only is he making way more money now, but he's so much happier because he's respected more and that, for a man, is everything!
So will Scott be off all summer? Boy I bet that will be bliss!
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Congrats!!!!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I know what you mean. Scott probably won't be making any more money for the first few years, but he was just miserable at his old job. He's always wanted to be a teacher and the fact that he's finally going to get to do what he wants to do is amazing. Now if we could just be sure he'll actually get a job this fall everything would be great! I've decided to stop worrying about it though - God's made it possible for us to get this far and I know he has a job for Scott somewhere, if not this year then next!
I'd love it if he could take the summer off, but he's planning on getting a temporary job after we move back home. We're living off our tax refund right now, and it's not enough to get us through the summer. Of course, we weren't expecting him to have this job subbing for 4 weeks, so that will help give us time to move and get settled- before this came up our plan was to move the day after graduation and have a job lined up for him to start that week. He hasn't actually gotten a job lined up yet, but he's called a couple places. He wanted to wait to apply until we knew if we'd be moving in the beginning or the end of May.
ediep replied: wonderful news Sara! Congrats!
coasterqueen replied: That's what I was gonna say! Wow, time flies.
Congrats to your family, Sara!!!!!
jcc64 replied: Congratulations! I don't know what it's like where you live, but teaching jobs are SCARCE right now, so hat's off to your dh for nailing one! I'm a new English teacher, too--just finishing up my first full year with my own students (had a few long term sub gigs first). Tell your dh to feel free to pm me anytime if he wants to trade lesson plans, ideas, etc... Good luck to him--it's a hard job but so rewarding on so many levels.
ADAMINAA replied: Congratulations!!! I am glad to hear your story and wish for many many many happiness for you and your family.
