Just wondering.... - did you decide to buy a baby monitor

Lynda836 wrote: Just thought I'd do a quick survey....how many people decided to buy a baby monitoring system?

Initially I wasn't going to buy one 'cause I didn't think it was a "necessity" because we live in a small apartment...but due to my mother being a worry wart, and basically I'm tired of having the conversation with her (I know I'm bad) I've changed my mind.

So any thoughts?

booey2 replied: Well actually my mom bought us one and we live in a bungalow and I thought I would never use it, however when we went downstairs to watch tv or ran out the backyard it was great to have that peace of mind. When Thomas came along we didn't use it much but relied on it when we had company over and he was napping and I had to shut the door to his room. We have an open door policy in our home, bedrooms and bathrooms are usually always left open, unless I am using the washroom (the boys are getting to old) or when DH and I are wink.gif "doing the taxes" blush.gif blush.gif wink.gif wink.gif . The one had also came apart and I could clip the part that sends the sounds to Matthew's clothing when he went outside to play when I couldn't get out there with him and I knew exactly where he was and what he was doing. HTH I really think they are a good investment.

moped replied: I have one but quit using it after 4 months.........

gr33n3y3z replied: never had or bought a baby monitoring system

TANNER'S MOM replied: I had one of the old BIG ones.. from 1990

But it lasted thru all the kids...and I recently just stopped easy b/c it finally died..

I am a heavy sleeper and I needed it...

Plus if I took out the trash etc..

Sunflower04 replied: I had 2 of them and never use it. Maybe with the next kid. happy.gif

That sounds like a really cool feature! What brand is your monitor? I haven't gotten one yet but I am planning on it ~ I will need one when I start putting Andrew upstairs in his crib for naps. (when we get a crib - we need one soon! rolleyes.gif)

Here is a link for the one we have (being such a pack rat I still have the original box for it. blush.gif )
Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Monitor

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We have a Sony one and we still use it every night. We also lived in a small house when Wil was born, but I like knowing it's there. Now our current house is larger and we have a basement, so I take it down there with us when Wil is upstairs in his crib.

If your mom is so worried, have HER buy one for you! wink.gif

Jamison'smama replied: We use a video monitor--love it--we don't always use it but it is nice to be able to check and see if he is really awake or just being restless. I also like it when we travel.

ediep replied: we have a video monitor too and I love it!

kayla's mama replied: We have the motion sensor one. It's nice since Kayla is a night mover.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Eep. We have 3.

We have an angel care monitor, that we got when Zach was a baby, with the detachable portion of motion detector to put under the crib mattress - it was great, because an alarm would start going off (loud too!) if ever the baby stopped breathing for longer than 15 seconds. Too many times we took the baby our of the crib and forgot to turn off the monitor... makes you jump! wacko.gif

We used it until Emilie was born, with Zach. When Emilie was born, we used that Angel care one, and we bought a Fisher price one for Zach, which is STILL is his room and he`ll be 3 at the end of the month. I`m just too much of a chicken to not have it in his room - it`ll be there until he`s like 12! I`m such a worrier - especially now that we live in a 'basement' part of a building - the windows, at regular level in our house, are at ground level of the building - so we look outside and see feet. Too easy for someone to try to kidnap... so I`d rather have the monitors in the kids rooms for peace of mind. I like to think we'd hear the window being opened throught the monitors.

Now Emilie still has the Angel car monitor in her room, but we don`t use the motion sensor pad, not since she was out of the crib.

We bought a NEW angel care monitor for this new baby - because the pad of the old one IS 3 years old, and we`d rather have a new one. Peace of mind with regards to SIDS.

They`re just the regular sound monitors... but they do really add peace of mind. The kids can play in their rooms, I can hear them through the monitor, I can bring it with me, I don't have to worry about them doing something they're not supposed to... lol
