Kindergarten?

mummy2girls wrote: I know the school system varies from the United States to Canada but I was curious to know.. is all your kindergartens where you live full days? Jenna is in a full day kindergarten and one of the dayhome moms just registered her child into school and its as well full day kindergarten... Just wondering if this is the norm now...

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Full days, they can go as long as they turn 5 before December 31st.

Pre-K is also full days, as long as they turn 4 before December 31st.

This is the french school system.

The english school system, however, is half days in both Pre-K and K. huh.gif rolleyes.gif

The french system in Quebec, however, is half days in the french system, and let's face it, there's barely an english school board.

PrairieMom replied: Here is varies a lot. Even in my city there are full day and half day options. Our public schools do full day every day starting at age five before September 1.
Some private schools do partial days.

moped replied: Jack will go only half days, every afternoon......

Jamison'smama replied: It varies. Where I live. the public school is all dayt Monday, Thursday and every other Wednesday or Tues/Fri every other Wed. The private school is all day every day. There is also the ability to go all day every day at the public school for a fee.

Celestrina replied: In our area it is strictly half days, but it is scheduled to change in the near future. Of course this is right after DS is finished kindergarten. dry.gif

coasterqueen replied: Our school system you have a choice. You can either go 1/2 days or full days in K. They encourage full days because the ones who go 1/2 days miss out on a LOT of activities. Kylie went full day and so will Megan when she goes.

DVFlyer replied: Chloe goes M-F for like 3.5 hours each day.

mckayleesmom replied: Full days here.

MommyToAshley replied: It varies from school district to school district, and private school to public school, here.

Ashley went to half-day Kindergarten. I thought it was a nice transition from going 3 half-days a week of preschool, to 5 half-days in kindergarten, to 5 full days in 1st grade. Besides, when she started going to Kindergarten, I wasn't quite ready to have her be gone all day yet. I really missed her when she started full-days in first grade. And, she wasn't even 5 yet when she started kindergarten, that's a long day for that age!

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Ours is called full day goes from 8-1 but the rest of the school gets out at 2 so not quite a full day

mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee goes from 8:00 to 3:00.....But she wouldn't have it any other way because at her school they have special classes on different days of the week. Dancing, art class, library day, creative movement day, music day....So that kind of becomes their little break in the day to do something fun.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Full days here. Although there is an option to only go half days, but by the end of the first quarter parents usually end up sending them all day because of the amount of stuff they miss compared to the full day kids.

mom21kid2dogs replied: I live in Ohio. Our town public is all full day. The private school Olivia attends has both full day and half day options. In Ohio, Kindergarten is still a parental option~meaning you are not required by law to attend Kindy.

ETA: The school still offers both because there is no educational difference noted between kids who attend full day and those who attend half. We always have at least 3-4 (out of 12-15) who opt for half day.

Mommy2BAK replied: Our school district does full days, but I miss the days when I was in k-5 and we did half days, that was a nice transition, but now days kindergarten expectations are much higher. dry.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: Some school districts in our area do full days, but ours does half days. They considered switching to full days a few years ago, but from what I was told they couldn't find room for the 3 extra classes they would need going to full days.

luvmykids replied: Private schools vary here, although I'm noticing more and more are full days. Public is full day as well.
