LOL. Y'all thought I lived in Mayberry before - wait till you hear this...

kit_kats_mom wrote: I have a neighbor. A nosey old woman who lost her husband a couple of years ago due to a gas leak in the house when she was gone. She is very talkative and kind of wierd. Well, , she asked me if I would keep a key to her house and contact info for her kids, just in case something happened to her. she's paranoid, I can understand that. I figured, she's a yankee, kind of brusque and nosey but I can stand her so I'll talk to her even though I don't really like her much. She's brought by a few gifts for K and has been more and more friendly over the last year.

I took her a loaf of bread a month ago or so because I had made some and I knew we wouldn't eat it all. I commented on how nice her yard is and how I would love her advice on what I should plant in ours since it looks so bad. She said that she would go to the plant store with me and help me pick stuff out when she got home from her trip. Well, soon after that DH lost his job and when she came over to offer to go to the store with me I told her that I couldnt' spend the money right now. I thought that was it.

She stopped me when I was checking my mail last week and said that she was on her way to the plant store and would pick up plants for me. She said that she had "her own personal reasons for wanting to do it". she finally admitted that it is because I'm the only nice person in the neighborhood. I'm actually the only one who doesn't pretend to not be home when she knocks, but whatever. LOL
Anyway, I woke up from my nap yesterday to a beautiful front yard with flowers, plants and a lovely fern in my flowerbox.
Maybe I do live in Mayberry.LOL

A&A'smommy replied: WOW she sounds really nice! WOW I bet you were surprised! I can't stop saying WOW! rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: Wow that is nice! Uh, I'd say you do live in Mayberry!!!! rolling_smile.gif

beckamouse replied: thats very sweet of her.....and...to quote...WOW!!

Mommy2M replied: Awwwwwwwww How sweet of her!!! I know how old people can get on your nerves from working with them but you just must understand that they are totally lonely. It is VERY nice of you to be nice to her even though you dont really like her, shes just looking for someone to "see" or talk to once in a while, and the elderly also love small children! You never know, she just might become a very important person in your life?? She may be your neighbor for a reason?? I want to live where YOU live, Any houses for sale on your block?? LOL
My neighbors stink!

kit_kats_mom replied:
LOL. I know what you mean.
Actually, our whole town is pretty large, I mean it's the capitol of FL and the home to 2 universities. It has maintained that "small-town" feel though. I love it and the thought of having to move for DH to find a job litterally makes me sick.

CantWait replied: Awwww that's really sweet. Coodles to you for being so nice thumb.gif Even if you don't really like her much. I feel bad for her, people are just plain mean sometimes :(In a way she sounds like my grandma. She's always bringing the neighbours vegetables from her garden, and giving the kids candy and chocolate wub.gif ...I can't wait to see her this summer. Sorry you just got me all warm inside bawling.gif

Mom2Boyz replied: She Sounds like a very sweet lady wub.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Wow Cary. That is really cool. Yes the town does have a small town feel, but there are tons of people there. I really loved it when I lived there.

amynicole21 replied: Wow, that is so great! It does sound like she's really lonely, and that you've brought some companionship to her life. That's so sweet of her. blush.gif

kimberley replied: how sweet of her! goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. i am so afraid of getting old and being treated like crap by everyone. sounds like YOU are creating the happy land of Mayberry around you with your niceness wink.gif

bellymonstersmama replied: Sounds like you are a great nieghbor for being polite to her.
What a great way for her to return your kind gestures.

paradisemommy replied: awe that made me so sad to read that you are her only friend. bawling.gif she seems like a really sweet lady (though sometimes a little weird) rolleyes.gif

aspenblue1 replied: WOW that is so sweet!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: wub.gif Awwww that is so sweet! She sounds like a nice old lady! wub.gif

Boys r us replied: OMG MY GOODNESS **whistling to theme of the Andy Griffith Show**

How very nice of her! I guess kindness pays in the end..huh?!

jem0622 replied: That is one of the sweetest things I've ever heard! You have really touched her life and probably are the only people she has to talk to! How sweet. When I was in college and working at the bank we had elderly folks come in daily just so they had someone to talk to. I really enjoyed their company. One day a lady came in and told me her husband fell off of a ladder at work and died. I just sat and listened to her talk. That's all that she needed. I'll never forget her.

My2Beauties replied: That is sweet. I agree, WOW! What a wonderful thing for someone to do. I think she just might be your neighbor for a reason as well!

MommyToAshley replied: Aweee, what a neat story. I think it is great that you were there to listen when she needed a friend, despite the fact that you could have made up any excuse to get out of it. And, wow how neat that she planted those flowers for you. (Planting and gardening is not an easy task) It just goes to show you "what goes around, comes around" -- that phrase is used more often when someone is treated badly, but it holds true for kind gestures as well.
