Last night was pretty scary! - Tornados

coasterqueen wrote: Last night was pretty scary to say the least, but I thank God that my family is ok and the tornados didn't come out in our area. They did hit many of our family and friends and my dad was out in the storms last night trying to save friends who lived in trailers in town. So we were all pretty scared wondering if he was ok because his cell phone was not working. My family camped out in our basement literally in the dark with no power, no flashlight and no battery powered radio. We found out just how unprepared we were for tornadoes and that's bad since we live in an area that gets tornadoes. We just don't get them this early in the year. We still have no power, going on 14 hours now. We had just bought stuff for Megan's party yesterday and I know it's not going to make it because the refrig isn't cold at all and we went in town to buy ice, but not sure how long it's all going to last.

Tornados do NOT hit in Springfield. They just don't. Because of the time of year our city got UNLUCKY and they hit (two of them). They actually hit the area we live in just outside of Springfield, but they went intown instead so that's where we got lucky.

Anyways, just thought I'd let everyone know we are ok, in case anyone wondered. Sarah - thank you for pm'ing and asking about me. You are so sweet. I forgot to thank you in the pm. blush.gif

Some areas of our town have power but we still do not. Not sure how long before we get it back. rolleyes.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Yeah I came in to work to help get a press release out regarding the storms and insurance. I'm going to go back home in a bit so DH can come in to work and get a few things done. They just got their power back on a couple hours ago.

moped replied: It is so unusual to have that happen this time of year isn't it????????

coasterqueen replied:
Yep! We usually don't get them for another month or so and one hasn't hit the city since the 50's. Usually the hit the outskirts of the city like in areas where I live. The reason they don't hit the city is because the heat off the buildings and pavement create a heat bubble effect and tornados go around the city, like I said in my area of the "world" but because it's still winter and there really is not a "heat bubble" it went right through town. So in some ways my family in particularly got extremely lucky.

moped replied: Yeah that is very scary.....I have freinds in and near Springfield, and his daughter goes to school very close to there, so they were a bit freaked out this morning too!!!!!!!

So SOrry..........

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Wow scary! I'm glad you're all ok. hug.gif I hate tornadoes. wacko.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Yeah, I'm not sure where they live, but many of the schools outside Springfield, like where I live are out today. Some of the ones south of us (the areas) where hit. All the city school buses, well 40 to 50% of them were taken out in the tornado I guess so that's why all their schools are out. It's NUTS. Course all of what we've heard is been through the radio because we have no tv. We actually had to go into town this morning and buy a radio so we knew what was going on, lol.

My2Beauties replied: OK I feel so dumb because I just posted a thread about you asking if you were ok, and I didn't see this. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif I'm so glad to hear everything is ok.

Mom2Boyz replied: I"m glad you guys didn't get directly hit!!! Tornados are pretty scary ohmy.gif

We had some really bad weather last night too. It probably hit us 3 or 4 hours before it got to you guys. At one point, out of about 10 counties in Ks, OK, Ar, and Mo, we were the ONLY county that wasn't under a tornado warning. Things are MUCH clearer here today, but it's only like 50 degrees instead of the 80 we saw yesterday.

BAC'sMom replied: Stay Safe! hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

kimberley replied: hug.gif omg that is scary. glad you are ok. hug.gif

kayla's mama replied: Glad your guys are safe and sound hug.gif I love storms but hate tornadoes especially if they come at night.
