Lets remember the good times - Cost of gas when you started driving??
mckayleesmom wrote: So lets here it
When I started driving it was 98 cents a gallon. It was 1.02 for diesel.
luvbug00 replied: lol! i think it was like 1.20 a gallon! oh to be young again!
coasterqueen replied: I remember 88 cents vividly! I think it was a bit lower than that when I first started driving. I just know I could scrounge change out of the couch cushions to go get several gallons of gas to get me around town. Can't do that now.
mckayleesmom replied: I remember the first year vividly because I worked for a gas station and I had to change the sign alot.....It always fluctuated from 90 to 1.02 for regular.
TheOaf66 replied: I remember the first time I went of Spring Break (1995) we paid $.88 a gallon
~Roo'sMama~ replied: It was .98 when I started too, and I remember it being .87 too. I remember when I thought 1.27 was ridiculous - now I'd be ecstatic if it went down that far!
moped replied: DOn't remember but I think it was 29 cents a litre........
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: I remember $0.79/gallon. Man, the good ol' days when $5 actually got you somewhere!
luvmykids replied: I don't remember but it had to be cheap b/c I got $25 a month for gas....that kept my VW bug running me to and from school, practices, games, parties, the mall....
PrairieMom replied: $1.07. I remember keeping a 20 in my glove box so I would always have $ to fill up my tank.
My2Beauties replied: It was like 90 cents approximately. Oh those were the days
BAC'sMom replied: It was CHEAP!
I can remember back in the early 70’s when you could only purchase gas on certain days. They went buy your license plate if you had an odd number as the last digit you were allowed to purchase gas only on odd-numbered days of the month. And vice versa with even-numbered license plates, you were allowed to purchase gas only on even-numbered days.
Ok I have showed my age….. now I will go have a good cry.
lisar replied: I think it was like $1.20 when I started driving. I could fill up my tank for 20 bucks. Now 20 bucks doesnt give me anything.
luvmykids replied: I know, yesterday all I had was a $20 with me, it was barely a 1/4 of a tank
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I don't remember when I started driving, but I do remember it being around $1.19 back in college, which was early to mid 90's. I am paying $4.60 here right now!
HuskerMom replied: I think it was about .90 when I started driving.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I don't drive, but I think it was something like 0.59 cents a litre around the time where I could have gotten my license, about 10 years ago. (that's about 2.23/gallon, btw)
na81 replied: I think it was like $1.19/gallon.
WOW!! I thought gas was high here at $4.19!!!! I don't know what I would do if it went up that much! When I was getting my oil changed yesterday the guy told me he heard that gas prices are supposed to stay steady and possibly even lower!! That would be nice if it's true, but I'll believe it when I see it!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: it was right around $1.40 where I was and $.99 near my sister's house. But i also remember when I bought my Durango when I was pregnant with Katy it went under $.90 a gallon
holley79 replied: I can't really remember but I think it was like 1.17 or something like that.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Around $1.19
lisar replied: Ohhhh what I would give to be able to have those prices again. Anyof them I would love right now.
Swood75 replied: It was about .99 here for reg,$1.09 for plus and $1.19 for premium...I would love that as it would only cost me about $13 to fill my tank now and about $16 on DH..
mom21kid2dogs replied: I started driving in either late '75 or early '76. Gas was .50 a gallon. I could go forever on one tank in my Karman Ghia
mom21kid2dogs replied: I remember that, too, Jimmie. Good old gas rationing. I had actually forgot but they said something the other day on NPR about it.
BTW, I don't cry about my age~drinking goes so much further to ease the pain!
jcc64 replied: When I started driving, gas was $1.30/gal, which is pretty strange, b/c I'm certain I'm much older than most of you here....
redchief replied: Yes, Jeanne, but you live in NY, one of the most expensive states for gasoline.
Now for old... I remember when I started driving, regular gas was 0.77 9/10 a gallon. I clearly remember this because we thought they should have made it 7/10 so it would look cool on the sign.
Boys r us replied: 83 cents/Gallon! I could put $5 in and have half a tank!
