Let's talk washers and dryers - GE Harmony Series

coasterqueen wrote: Anyone have a GE frontload washer and dryer OR the GE Harmony Series washer and dryer?

We went to buy a dishwasher the other day and Dh convinced me that we needed to replace the washer and dryer. I've been wanting to do that FOREVER so I was excited. I hate our current washer and dryer.

So here's my hang-up on why I can't decide on which one. We definitely have to buy a GE profile type washer/dryer so those are the two (above) we have to choose from. We have a GE profile now and they have been great appliances, no big problems, but we just want something with more bells and whistles. NEways......the GE Harmony Series is not a frontloader but the middle drum thingy is gone just like a frontloader. The cool thing about the series is it's all computerized for stain removal, it determines how long it should dry - the washer tells the dryer the time, etc, etc.

The only thing I like I about the GE frontloader is it's frontloading and I could put in a countertop above the washer/dryer. I can't do that with the GE Harmony.

SO my point is does anyone have one of these? I am curious if anyone has the GE Harmony for sure.

Anyone????

luvmykids replied: Don't have GE but do have frontloading. The only thing I don't like is that I didn't get the pedastal....it would be a lot more pleasant without having to bend over to get the wet clothes out. But I am happy with it anyway, I love being able to do bigger loads.

gr33n3y3z replied: I have Whirl Pool front loaders

Anything GE ever made does not last well in my case it didnt

ediep replied: we just got the kenmore elite front loading washer and dryer and I like them a lot. They have all the computerized cycle determination... auto sense drying, special cycle for kids clothes, special sanitizeing cycle, so far I love it

coasterqueen replied:
My mom said the same thing, but if I got the pedestals they would sit too high and I wouldn't get to use the top area for folding, etc.

coasterqueen replied:
Alot of people told us to go Whirlpool too. I'm surprised your GE's didn't last. How long did they last? Maybe what I think of in terms of lasting and you are two different things. happy.gif I get old of appliances quickly. blush.gif Our washer and dryer are 8 years old and still working. Everything we have is GE Profile. We've never had a problem with any of them except the washer in the past.

coasterqueen replied: Well, I might shoot myself in the foot later but we decided on the higher tech all computerized washer and dryer - the GE series. It's not front loading, but it's designed exactly like the front loaders. Actually it has a bigger tub than the front loaders. I like how I can set all the loads up to treat for food stains (my main stain in this household rolleyes.gif ) and it will treat for it and I like how the washer tells the dryer how long to dry for so I just have to hit start. tongue.gif

So if all goes well I'll have them by the end of the week. thumb.gif

gr33n3y3z replied:
Less then 6 years for all of our GE appliances
So I'm not a GE fan

coasterqueen replied:
Oh wow! ohmy.gif Yeah, I'd say that's not good. I'd not be a fan either.

The place where we buy our appliances at has a 5/10 year warranty and their service is excellent. They sell more than GE, but even the times our GE appliances have given us grief the warranty is so great that we've not had an issue with them being fixed.

gr33n3y3z replied:
wow that is great I'd stay with them then

moped replied: I have the Maytag stain brain one - front load and we love it! Never have stains on my clothes and I have no complaints

holley79 replied: I would LOVE a front loader washer/ dryer set.

Boys r us replied: I don't have either of these..but I would STEER CLEAR of GE. We furnished our house with top of the line GE appliances when we built it...CRAP! Within 2 years we had to have so manyt hings worked on. Finally..we've just begun replacing things 1 by 1. Even our repair man(who works independently, not for Ge or maytag or anything like that)says he has the most calls on GE appliances.

We did tons of research and went with Fisher and Paykel washer and dryer. They are a little more pricey than some of the others, but there are no belts or barons(sp?) to replace or go bad. They have so many great options on them too, like the ability to sense they type of fabrics you're washing, how dirty they are. and instead of replacing our front loading GE washer and dryer with frontloading..we went for TOP loading washer AND DRYER with F & P.
I love both being top loading 1 million times more than I did front loading.

coasterqueen replied: Thanks for the info Nichole. We must be the luckiest out there because the only problem we've had was with our washer. It was fixed twice in the last 8 years. Nothing else (knock on wood) has been worked on. I take that back, our dishwasher was and it was because of something that got jammed in the bottom that we didn't see. But we haven't had to pay anything because the place we buy our appliances from has an excellent warranty, like I mentioned above.

The guy who did work on our washer that 1st time said they get the most calls on these and that we should just buy whirlpool, nothing else. Considering the fact that we get old of appliances after 8 to 10 years (DH a techy-gadget geek) GE has done well for us. The only reason we are getting a new GE dishwasher is because of a recall that they offered to either fix it for free or give us $300 towards a new GE one. Our washer and dryer still work, but our warranty is almost up and is going to need fixing soon and we have been wanting a new one.

As long as it lasts 8 to 10 years I'm good. tongue.gif
