Looked up my son's nose....

hopefulmomtobe wrote: I wanted to post this here because you guys seem to respond fast. My 8 year old boy always complains that he has a buger...all the time...so every night before bed we blow his nose like little freaks in hopes that he feels better. I have checked his nose, nothing. He is a little "ocd" so we just kinda go along with whatever, even if it is odd to us because it may not be to him. Well, here we go again last night...so he wanted me to look in there and get it. I looked and could see somethig but needed more light so I got a flash light and it looks as if he has a little cyst or maybe a pulp. I am not sure, it could even be something perfectly normal for a child also but I had no other child to compair it to that would let me look up their nose. rolling_smile.gif What do you guys think...my nose is clear all the way through, but are kids noses a little more filled with tissue or something? If that makes sense.

sparkys2boys replied: I think I would get it looked at just to be safe. KWIM. Im not sure but it does sound like a cyst of some sort. KUP.

redplaydoh replied: Put a little vaseline or aquaphor on a q-tip and swab it on there. I'd use saline nasal spray/drops for a few days as well. See if that clears up the irritation and makes him feel better. If the bump is still there after a few days I'd call the doc to have him take a look.

amynicole21 replied: I'd get it checked. It may be nothing, but it never hurts to be sure.

hopefulmomtobe replied: My husband has been putting vicks under his nose, but I think I will have the doc check just to be on the safe side. Never know. I just didnt want the doc to look at me like I was crazy if it was something normal, ya know. Thanks guys!

kit_kats_mom replied: has he had any asprin? I get these painful cysts in my nostrals and my dr said it can be a sign of a minor allergy to asprin. blink.gif Dunno if that's the answer or not but I know that I get them and they drive me crazy. They are harmless but I'd get him looked at anyway.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: My mom gets zits up her nose. unsure.gif wacko.gif

hopefulmomtobe replied: I dont think that is what it is because you can see little veins in it, it is like skin pulled over the bump really tight.

I looked online and that is a joke trying to find what I am talking about, I cant find it. So, I think I will check him again tonight and then take him in if it hasnt gone down any.

Calimama replied: I'd get it checked out just in case as well. wink.gif

CantWait replied:
Same, I've had one up there for quite some time and it's quite painful when I touch my nose, or when dh playfully punches me there. dry.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: Are you maybe seeing the cartiledge (sp?) on either side of the inside of the nostrils?

hopefulmomtobe replied:
I'm not sure? Is that what it is? Does your kid have that? Come on people, look up your kids nose for me! haa haa rolling_smile.gif Just kidding...but seriously, I know it will just be something silly like that if I take him to the doctors...

Boo&BugsMom replied:
He's asleep taking his nap, but when I look up my nose I see cartiledge (gosh I do not know how to spell that word!) on either side of the inside of my nostrils...on the outer sides (hope I explained that ok). I've been really OC about my nose lately so I've looked up there recently. blush.gif If I go into detail, I'm sure it will be TMI. laugh.gif

holley79 replied: I would def let a Dr just look at it.

hopefulmomtobe replied:
Your funny! When I checked on Brody last night while he was sleeping, he was breathing kinda funny and kept hitting his nose as if something were bothering him. I think cartlidge is whitish right? This is filling up most of his nostril inside and is pink with veins in it. I think it may actually be something...like a cyst or a polyp of some sort. I just hate going to the doctors...actually my 15 year olds pediatrician called and said they havent seen him in over 9 years and wanted to set him up with a physical (I think they wanted to make sure he was still alive) but my kids never get sick... I just may have to take Brody in though, because he isnt really able to breath well out of his nose because of this thing in there.

3xsthefun replied: I would take him to the doctor just to be safe.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
In my nose it doesn't look like there are veins, just a penninsula of skin and bone, in a way, that sticks out a little towards the inside of my nostrils. It is the same color as my skin. Not sure what I'd do. You can call the doctor and ask them about it. That can't hurt. Maybe if it is something that's normal they can better explain it. Hope he's ok!

hopefulmomtobe replied: Thank you for your concern, much appreciated and I will let you know what happens. smile.gif

redchief replied: I know I'm a little late weighing in on this, but it could be a polyp or cyst. The nose is rich in blood vessels, so I would definitely get it checked by a doc instead of trying to open up his nostril yourself. Breaking those blood vessels could cause a bad nosebleed and scarring in that sensitive area. I wouldn't call it an emergency, though it seems to be bothering him a lot, so his comfort may be a factor in your decision.

amynicole21 replied: OK, this is really gross, but does it look like this? http://www.ghorayeb.com/NasalPolyps.html

Google "nasal polyp picture" and you should find some images to compare to. Get it checked out please hug.gif

redchief replied:
puke.gif Congratulations. You've managed to gross out a EMT-Firefighter-Plumber. That's no easy task. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Seriously, that one is an extreme example. Much smaller ones can cause quite a lot of discomfort, but that's what they look like all right.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: All I've got to add is, Jennie, this is how it's spelled...
cartilage.
Sorry, I'm a walking spelling dictionary. blush.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: EWWWW! Ok, that is definitly NOT what I'm talking about. That was pretty gross. I'm glad I'm done eating lunch.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Thank you! I could not get it right and it was really bugging me.
