Lost another horse tonight
luvmykids wrote: Right after my chocolate mug cake I kept hearing a noise outside, thought it was just wind, finally went to check it out and it was our brood mare colicking. I gave her some paste and she seemed to really perk up, the next time I checked on her about 30 minutes later she was up and down but not down for long at all and doing lots of walking, so I called DH and he said to give her a shot of bantamine if I thought I could do it alone. Came back to the house to get it and a blanket, went back down there, saw her walking backwards then bolt for a few steps and BAM, she collapsed and that was it
DH said she must've twisted right then, and probably felt it coming when she took off right before that It really, really, really sucks because this never happens when he's here. The only good thing is that he'd been home since Saturday so I know it wasn't something I was doing....last year we lost two in a row and I was sure I was killing them off somehow but it sucks that this never happens when he's here to deal with it. And it sucks that she died right there like that, we've lost horses but I've never seen one run and literally a split second later be lying there dead
MoonMama replied: Oh Monica honey! I am over here in tears for you! I am so sorry! Its NOT your fault at all so don't even think that for a second! I'm really sorry!

Crystalina replied: Monica.... I know how you feel. I've never seen one drop and die like that but I have had them down and suffering until DH was able to make it home and put it down. I'm like you, that stuff always seems to happen when he isn't home. We have a very nice neighbor who will come and help me at times but I hate calling him unless I absolutely have to.
A&A'smommy replied: OH Monica I'm SOOO sorry sweetheart!!!
DillsMommy replied: I'm so sorry!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I am so sorry. It does always seem that the worst things happen when our husbands are gone and we are left to deal with it alone.
