Lullabies - Do you sing your child to sleep?
DansMom wrote: Just wondering how many of you sing lullabies or play tapes/CD's to put your little one to sleep? I always sing to Daniel until he falls asleep. I sometimes sing traditional lullabies, sometimes American Gospel (like Michael Row the Boat Ashore, Simple Gifts, Amazing Grace), old protest tunes (like Blowing in the Wind, Where Have All the Flowers Gone), or gentle pop songs like the Beatles, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, etc. How about you?
A&A'smommy replied: I have five (well six now) cds that I need to start playing for her again... I also sing her to sleep singing traditional songs she loves it! I have Charlotte Church, Josh Groban, babys first classical music, Heavenly lullabies and a baby einsten (baby Vivaldi) that one is new so we haven't listened to it yet. Thanks for reminding me though!
TANNER'S MOM replied: Yes, and I do stil and they aren't babies anymore. Sometimes we sing things like amazing grace, and michael row your boat ashore..Tanner loves You are my sunshine! But somtimes we all make up songs line by line.
And I have this humm..kinda that granny used to do to us and our babies, she would rock in her chair and smack the diaper gently, you know just for the sound really and sing Bye 0 Baby Bye, and then pat the butt, you know kinda a gentle rythem to it, I still do that to everybody..lol
But when I do that I can sometimes remember my granny's smell@!
~KARA~ replied: I dont sing her to sleep but she does have a cd she listens to. I go the the librarr once a month and pick 3 or 4 cd and "burn" the songs she likes.
MommyToAshley replied: We rock and sing and then she lays in her bed and goes to sleep.
We sing a modified version of "Rock A Bye Baby" (no falling in our version), "Hush Little Baby", "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", "Jesus Loves Me", and then a few sonds that are just made up as we go.
I can't help but to smile when I see Ashley playing with her dolls and she sings "Rock A Bye Baby" or "Hush Little Baby" and then lays them down and covers them up.
ediep replied: I play CD's for JAson to go to sleep.
kit_kats_mom replied: Katherine would never fall asleep if I tried singing to her...she'd be too busy trying to claw her ears off. Yes, I'm really that bad.
I have made her a few cd's and she listens to them. Old james taylor, beatles etc and another of instrumental classical.
ctymom replied: My kids used to fall asleep to the theme song from Jeopardy! lol Erica loves the Wiggles songs.

MommyToAshley replied: That reminds me of what Ashley did the other night. I was singing to her and she put her hands over my mouth and told me "Stop singing Mommy" and then proceeded to sing herself. I admit that my singing is bad, but everyone says that kids don't care... guess they don't know our kids, eh?
But, last night she asked me to sing Hush Little Baby, so I maybe she can tolerate it sometimes.
paradisemommy replied: I sing Baby Mine by Bette Middler to Taven every night and he loves to sing it with me!!
favre4fan replied: I used to when they were younger and I loved it. I am lucky to get a hug or kiss without bribing them now!!
Lollie replied: Oh yes....I love singing to Bri while she's breastfeeding or trying to sleep...she just loves it!I even sang to her when I was ptreggo with her and I sing alot for my bub as well...I love to lay and rub my belly and sing to her.
Sometimes Bri just lays and stares at my face while Im sisnging to her....I love that!!! Then she snuggles closer into me.....
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Our house is definetly a 'singing household.' We all love to sing. I sing to the kids all day long. However, they listen to classical lullabies CDs or the classical station at night. Now, whether or not I can carry a tune in a bucket is another story. I really can't sing at all. So far the kids just love to hear it, though and it hasn't bothered them. Usually they laugh!
BTW Dansmom- I'm so glad to hear that someone else knows who Simon and Garfunkel are! That is one of my favorite groups! A couple of years ago DH sold a Jaguar to Edie Brickel (sp) She is married to Paul Simon and nobody in the dealership knew who Paul Simon was! DH had to call and ask me. How pathetic huh? DH doesn't even know the Beatles. Now, I grew up to all that music b/c my parents are old hippies.
Mommybear replied: Well I have two children.
19 Month old falls asleep to either twinkle little star or Circle of Life "Lion King".
and my 9 month old has a couple favorites Hush lil baby twinkle lil star rockabye baby
and if all else fails The ants go marching.
DansMom replied: My mom's an old hippie too
I can imagine not knowing who Joni Mitchell is, but Simon and Garfunkel??!
Alice replied: I seldom do it any more, since it's more difficult in triplicate. But Brian knows all the words to Heart of My Heart (which used to thrill my dad no end!) I left my Heart in San Francisco, The Streets of New York and lots of the other old Mitch Miller favorites. Plus a few of the old Irish songs.
Does anyone else even know what I'm talking about????
Jamison'smama replied: I sing ALL the time. When she is falling asleep it is usually to You Are My Sunshine or Stay Awake (from Mary Poppins) or Sweet Baby James. For relaxing with me it is always James Taylor (seems like a board favorite) or Sting--I also listen to some folkish music--Nanci Griffith and she seems to like it.
redchief replied: I used to... I enjoyed it even if the cats in the alley signed a petition demanding I stop. I kind of miss it.
redchief replied: *Starts tapping his foot in time and singing out of tune*
Slow down you move too fast... Got to make the morning LAST....
Okay... you Simon and Garfunkel fans... name that tune
loveydad replied: Of course, every night. Even the twins I still sing too. I love to sing ot the kids
coasterqueen replied: Now at this age singing does not put her to sleep but she does require me or daddy to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star at least once before she goes off to la-la land.
DansMom replied:
... Just kickin' down the cobblestones...
... Feelin' Groovy! ...
Josie83 replied: We used to but it wasn't lullabies, we would sing to her anything that we had in our heads! For some reason we would always sing to her I Jst Called To Say I Love U by Stevie Wonder . . . she still loves that now and sometimes she'll ask us to sing to her and request that! I love the thought of singing them to sleep tho its so sweet1 xx
