MOLD?

Kirstenmumof3 wrote: ohmy.gif I just looked out my window and the window in Spencer & Claudia's room today. There is mold growing around the windows and on the window ledge (on the inside of the window). The windows are closed because it's winter and so cold. But I'm worried that this is what is making us sick. We also had a leek in the Bathroom and there is mold on the inside cabinet. OH how I wish we could get new windows in this house. Anyway, how do you get rid of mold? What should I use to clean the windows? And how do you prevent it from coming back? I'm going to do a search so if I find the answers I will post them. But if anyone has any suggestions or has experienced this first hand. Please give me some feedback. Thanks!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: Okay here's what I found out. I have a lot of cleaning to do tomorrow.

MOLD

booey2 replied: That is a lot of info. If you want to decrease the occurance, we have it happen here too in the winter, put plastic over the windows to create a barrier. You can buy the kits at the hardware store. Our front big window 10'x8' has to be done every winter because it is as old as our house and the house was built in 1955. All our other windows were updated before we bought the house, we can't wait to replace the big one as soon as we can. Good luck with the clean up tommorow.

MommyToAshley replied: I haven't read the links, so I hope I am not repeating anything. I would think that chlorine bleach, or a cleaner with chlorine in it would do the job. We have this steam cleaner thingy that DH ordered because he hates to use any kind of chemicals. It kills germs, mold, and bacteria by reaching a certain temperature. But, I still use cleaners in the bathrooms, sh.gif

We also use air purifiers throughout the house, and have one in Ashley's room. We have bad allergies and these help, but they are also supposed to take any molds out of the air too. It might be worth looking into.

Kaitlin'smom replied: okay I did not read the like but from the classes I have taken it will depend on the type of mold if you will be able to take care of it your self. Yes mold can make you sick, very sick again depending on they type of mold it is. Can you describe what it looks like...then I can give you more info on what you need to do.

or even send me a pic of it.

gr33n3y3z replied: I use stright vinegar and it kills it around the trim and on the windows
also its good to use on the fridge gaskets also

Kirstenmumof3 replied:

I'll have to try that as well. I really don't want to use anythimg to strong smelling in the bedrooms.

gr33n3y3z replied: Thats why I use vinegar its safe and cant hurt anyone
It just smells like a salad for a day or 2 lol

Kaitlin'smom replied: Okay I will look up some pics, but it sound like it should be the type of mold you can take care of but if it looks like another kind (once again I will put some links for you) dont touch it, you will have to call in professionals. I dont mean to scare you but there is a type of mold that is very harmful and can NOT be killed with bleach or vinager, it had to be done by professionals and it might take several tries. Its nasty stuff. Well off to find the different links or you.

Kaitlin'smom replied: here is some info

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif Thanks, I'm going to have to look at it again, but I don't think it looks like anything from those pictures.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
your welcome smile.gif I hope it does not look like that...its very scarey stuff
