Making cookies - (silly vent)
Mommy2BAK wrote: Alright, tell me what y'all think about this..... My MIL always makes me these wonderful cookies (they have no name). Her roomate in college gave her the recipe. These cookies are the BEST I have ever had, matter of fact there have been days that those cookies are all I ate.
But anyway, I have tried to make these cookies 5 times in the last 2 months. And they are NEVER even close to the ones she makes. Last week my g-ma was here and tried the last cookie I had that my MIL had given me, so my g-ma wanted to make more b/c she loved them. AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!! My g-ma called me yesterday and told me she took the recipe home and it still never worked whjen she made more at home.
Do you think my MIL doesn't want me to be able to make them as good as her???? Maybe she messed up my recipe. She is always telling me corrections to put in the recipe. I just don't understand????
DansMom replied: Hmmm... I wonder if she is guarding the one secret ingredient or technique that makes it all work.
On the other hand, I once made perfect vegan cupcakes. They were moist and yummy. I followed the same recipe to a T several times since and they've never come out that good again. I don't understand it at all.
ediep replied: HAHA, I bet she is leaving out an ingredient or a technique that makes then so good just so people like hers better
Mommy2BAK replied: Thats what I am thinking sinc they are her son's (my DH) favorite!
Thats Mean!
favre4fan replied: Your making me hungry!! Shes probably leaving something out!
A&A'smommy replied: I bet she is leaving something else, have you ever seen that episode of "everybody loves raymond" where Marie does that to Debra? Its funny but she did it for the exact reason that you just said because her son LOVED them. Maybe wait a little while and ask her for the recipie again you could tell her you lost it and didn't get a chance to make them
Mommy2BAK replied: haha, no I have never seen that episode. I used to watch that all the time. But the thing is my MIL doesn't seem like she would ever do that, but ya never know!
superlydia replied: Try to google the word recipe and all the ingredients for the recipe. Maybe it's out there on the internet somewhere.
kit_kats_mom replied: You know, my grandma is famous for her fudge. I spent an entire Sunday at her house learning to make it so that the recipe won't go when she does. The batches I made when she was with me, came out awesome. Welp, i'm here to tell you that it is going when she goes. I made about 20 batches last year for Christmas and exactly 1 came out correctly. 1 out of 20? Expensive lesson.
I suspect it has something to do with the pot she uses. It's a really old, heavy pot and mine are not. Maybe I'll inherit the pan then I can try again.
MomToMany replied: Hmmmm, strange! I bet she DID leave out an ingredient or step or something.
MomofJandB replied: Hmmm...sounds like something's missing to me! Could you invite her over to show you how to make them?
paradisemommy replied: that's what i was gonna suggest..tell her for the life of you, you can't seem to make them taste like hers so see if she'll come over and you can watch her/take notes..
