Megan wants her ears pierced
coasterqueen wrote: Megan keeps asking me all the time if she can get her ears pierced. Every time she sees me put mine on she asks. If I'm holding her and she sees them she asks.
Would I be a bad mommy if I take her to get it done? Can any BTDT mom's give me advice, PLEASE? DH said he is perfectly fine with it. His only concern is whether she is going to freak out about it and rip them out.
She does have sensory integration issues and IF for some reason she flips out after they are done, can I take them out? I'm not real sure if she would or not. It's hard to tell what things are going to make her flip.
ETA: I should have asked her OT today but I forgot. If I'm going to do it, I'd prefer to do it this weekend while DH is still out of town. He said he doesn't want to be there when they do it. Megan does see her OT next week so I guess I can wait and ask her then....
moped replied: I ca see why she wants them done, but have you told her initial OUCIE at the first shot??? Just so she is prepared.....
coasterqueen replied: Yes, but I think at this age she doesn't quite understand it and won't until they actually do it.
I always thought I should wait til they are old enough to decide but now I can see why some get it done early on when they don't remember. Kylie won't get it done because she's afraid of the pain. I didn't til I was a teenager because of the pain issue.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlin just had hers done the beging of August. She had been begging for so long. I dont think there is anythign wrong with if if she knows you have to trun them and clean them 1-2 times a day. I would also recomend you go when they can do both at once. Kaitlin did not have a normal reaction, she laughed and I mean they have not bothered her at all. We are getting ready to take those out and try on others.
luvmykids replied: I can't address the sensory issues...but as far as the actual piercing goes, Kylie and Macie both got theirs pierced at the end of the summer and it was a lot smoother than I expected. A lot of places will do younger kids with two people doing the piercing so it's all over at once (they didn't have two people when we were there though). Plus, the earrings we picked were done with a new type of gun that doesn't make the big "pop" sound, it was totally silent and I think that helped. Both girls said it didn't hurt, just felt like a pinch. The gal also said you don't need to buy their cleaning solution, peroxide works just as well if not better.
It bothered them both the first few nights to sleep with them on but they've gotten used to it.
coasterqueen replied: This part worries me. I want sleep.
Kaitlin'smom replied: they did not bother Kaitlin at all when sleeping. I say the new guns are so small and quite, I was more worried about the sound than anything but you can even hear them.
coasterqueen replied: Di - where did you get hers done?
For everyone else I ask the same question. I guess I'm worried that I'll take her to one of these places and they won't be as good as they could be, kwim?
Kaitlin'smom replied: Icing-is in the mall and I believe owned by Clairs they were great altho I think one is slighlty off meaning its not streight though the ear but at a silght angle though the ear, but I wont know for sure till I pull the earing out, it could just be her ear.
julesmom replied: My dd had hers done at Claire's and one was so off. I had to take them out and let the holes close. Then a couple months later, we went to Paganos or something like that in the mall. I know it starts with a P. It's one of those little island stores in the middle.
They did 2 guns at once. They were totally straight. DD was fine with it. She had them done when she turned 4.
You can call around and find a place that does 2 guns at once and are experienced with little ones. Check with your hairdresser even.
luvmykids replied: We went to Piercing Pagoda. They made marks on their ears first to let me see if I liked the placement and they're perfect.
Brias3 replied: I don't think you're a bad mom at all if you let her! My sister did the same thing when she was younger- at about 2, she BEGGEd for them to be done because I had just gotten mine. My mom let her.
Aliyah's had hers pierced since she was almost 3. She really wanted them too and so I let her. I figured it doesn't need to be something permanent so if I felt they were getting irritated or she wasn't handling them well, I would have just taken them out. She did fine though and never ever messed with them.
My3LilMonkeys replied: We had Brooke's done at Piercing Pagoda. Everything was done right, we cleaned them turned them, etc. and they still got infected. The infection was such an ordeal for Brooke that we ended up taking them out, the holes closed and now she won't even consider the idea of doing them again because she's afraid of the pain.
I think we were an unusual case though. And I want to have Madison's done soon, before Brooke talks her into being afraid of it.
julesmom replied: Piercing Pagoda-that was the place!
A&A'smommy replied: awww if she wants them then she should be able to have them.. but I think you should probably definitely talk to her OT first!!! She will look SOOo cute with little pierced ears
Mommy2Isabella replied: Bella got hers done when she was I think 3 months. She slept during the piercing. She doesn't mess with them because they have been there forever.
I would talk to her OT first though, it would be BAD if she ripped the out.
Our Lil' Family replied: I worked at Claires YEARS ago and we did double piercing (same time) on kids younger than 5, if we didn't have 2 people in the store then it didn't happen, they had to wait or come back. I'd definitely make sure they have 2 people to do it at the same time. I hope she does well, I'm sure they will look adorable on her!! And I'd be willing to bet if she does well Kylie will want hers done right after!
